What mean does the finally result?

When I see baby flies to the Earth
I feel that she opening my door and light the sky above
when i close my eyes and feel her mind
Time has passed
I walk like a shadow
Never knew
What I am going through
She touch my heart and take my breath away
Whisper on the wind so softly
Let the bright stars fill out dreams with love
Reach for she hand and she show me the way :)
for love

Hmm, I don't get it. Isn't there supposed to be a punch line?

Something vague about humanity being reborn after finally conquering death. Maybe that or just scaring the shit out of everyone on earth. Both are good.

If we're talking the film. I think that its got lots of connotations and can't be summarised simply, taking the biggest theme:

Its the stages of man, and a warning about whats to come.

Loads of interpretation, but I think basic structure is this:
a) primitive to age of tool
b) the age of computer technology, the 'ultimate' tools
c) The age of artificial inteligence, the tool that thinks for itself
d) The age of enlightenment - The correct use of technology and rebirth. You can run with the interpretation that man has created life and is now God, or that man has come to the realisation that man is just man, inteligance is to be used wisely.

With each age represented by the monolith appearance.

The monolith itself hints at an outside influence, and that the dawn of each new age was observed and sparked by some event.

There are sites that cover the meaning in really great depth, does anyone have any links handy?

The movies strangely vague on this. It just shows the monolith as being ever so handily present during the discovery of tools/weapons. The book however explicitly has the monolith teaching them to throw stones and make clubs. Then again the later books reduce Bowman from starchild to just a simulation running within the monoliths systems, with his visitations to Earth and his mother almost being his rewards for being good.

strangely, but I think it works best being vague, at least you can have a think about it.

I haven't seen 2001 for a long time now.

Agreed, giving the viewer pause for thought is a better approach then simply leading them by the hand.
