just curious who of us has a DVDR burner
Need to know it for my little WC4 project that I've taken out of the closet again.

DVDr burners got so cheap, and the price of blank CDs is so high compared to DVDs, that I really can't see the point of using CDs anymore. Even if I burn multi-CD PC games, I store them as images on a DVDr and then just mount them using Daemon or Alcohol.

I got both as well

but as DVDR is superior you always vote for that one if you own both

or something :?

>2 pounds for media, geez spud where do you shop? Maybe it's the taxes in the UK. I just bought a 15pack of 8x for $5 or about .20p each. (I don't have a pounds symbol on my keyboard).

I have both kinds of drives actually.

2 DVD burners:

Pioneer A04/104 2x -R/RW (not in use)
Lite-On 16x/8x/4x/2.4x +R/-R/±RW/DL+R

4 or so CD burners (2 in use):

Both are: Lite-On 52x32x52 CDRW + x16 DVD-Rom Combos

I also have an old 6x CDRW IDE Memorex & 4x CDR SCSI Matshita? Don't remember off the top of my head.

I can get 4x-R media on a spindle for <$14 & 8x-R or 8x+R 50 spindle for <$15. Unfortunately my standalone only reads the 4x-R. 2.4xDL+R & 16x+R media is still expensive, like $20 for 1 & $13 for 5 RETAIL respectively. Gonna see if it's possible to get some of the 3.5" DVD-R, +R, & RW medias through work.

I have a DVD and CD burner. People that have more experience than me say that CD burners are better for audio. Apparently DVD burners don't accurately report C1 errors for audio. They use a mathematical system, while CD burners accurately measure the errors. I have no way of proving it though.

Don't make fun of my avatar.

CD burners are better for any cds, they are designed for that one task whilst with DVDrs is kind of extra. That said, i hardly ever burn any CDrs anymore, there's no point for me :)

Its not to do with anything complex, the cdrw burners are better for cd because its not having to compromise on two different hardware archicectures. Its provable by looking at any review sites, which use benchmarking tools.

You can also test yourself by using nero's drivespeed, it will test burn quality and show this fact.

Its only very slight though, i don't really see the point of cdrws anymore unless its free or extremely cheap.

I have to agree with you spudthedestroyer. I have never used my DVD burner but when I have tried to do some tests with one that I made with my Lite-on I can't tell the difference from the original CD.

I still use my CDRW that I have had for about 4 years for small things like giving my friends something. For storage they are quite useless now.
