oh dear, oh dear, from the writer/director of all the other mad maxs... oh and Babe: Pig in the City

............ Comes a childrens scifi action romantic comedy horror slashfest porno thriller musical aussie american flick, starring mel gibson as Aussie, and dawn french as Pig, rated Certificate 18, for excessive amounts of dawn french being slung over a spit roast until its bacon time while aussie watches Junior and laughs like a drunken hyena in fabulous CGI.........

@ Spud - I don't know why you say MM came last in the US, it didn't. It was first. Road Warrior was 2nd & Beyond Thunderdome 3rd.

Sky Captain was hysterically funny. there's this one scene where he gets out of his plane in a swamp, and I shouted "dammit, we've crashed on Dagobah. yoda!" the theater was cracking up. it was so impossibly bad it was the funniest film of the year. to be fair, about a third of the shit I was laughing at was supposed to be funny.

Wimbledon I enjoyed it. but then again...I'll watch anything with kirsten dunst in it. it's amazing how many times "right then" passes as a punch line in these movies when voiced in a british accent. it was like a more archetypal Crazy/Beautiful - older leads too. not quite Notting Hill/Love Actually sop though. did I mention I like kirsten dunst?

The name change (ie. Mad Max 2 to The Roadwarriror, then after to Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior) came from the studio executives releasing the movie before Mad Max had a cinema release, and also why the voiceover at the begining was added on request. They felt that the US audience would be confused by what had happened (why everything was crappy  ), so the name was changed and that little intro sequence that explains what happens was tacked on.

The initial US alternate version is distiguished by a unique "lightning bolt" design for the title logo. Subsequent US releases still bear The Road Warrior title, but in block lettering, and contain the full original footage.

They changed it back later as you can see:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082694/alternateversions

I emphasised cinema release, because it may have slipped across on video, I'm not sure, but what I read in Empire Magazine and imdb is that the US theatrical release for Mad Max 2 happened without a theatrical release for the first. Which is why the changes were made, since with no theatrical release, the people who had seen the first wasn't high enough. Mad Max got a limited release when Beyond the Thunderdome was showing.

However, I can only go on what I've read, if your telling me that Mad Max was released theatrically first, then I guess empire are wrong.

Incidently:
The UK Warner Bros. PAL video is uncut & longer than the US R rated print; the extra footage (mere seconds) contains graphic torture to the good guys.

Is the version I have on DVD I hope, tis warner bros DVD :)

Anyways, I watched The Village (can this guy be anymore predicatable or what, maybe I have a sixth sense ( ), but his twists are so obvious, this one I had guessed almost right off. May have been a fluke guess, but you could tell *SPOILER**SPOILER*the elders were keeping the kids in line, and that there was a 99% chance that when she got through to the other side of the woods it would be modern times.... it was just sooooooo obvious*SPOILER**SPOILER*.) then I watched Resident Evil: Botchpocalypse.

I watched episode IV from my DVD box set that came yesterday and it looks really, really stunning, one of the best DVDs I've ever watched. The sound is superb, and the picture is really clear and vibrant. Barring about a minute of footage (the bit in mos Esleys that looks out of place from 1997), the DVD version is superb.

I'm going to watch Empire tonight hopefully and will report back, but episode IV was really, really impressive.

I watched Resident Evil Last night and found it not to be as good as the original, wildly incoherant and daft in places.

First Daughter was pretty much as advertised: Chasing Liberty with katie holmes and a more accomplished cast. that said, CL was a better developed film, and folks...that's not an accomplishment to be proud of. Still, I did get to look at katie holmes for the better part of 1.5 hours (who, btw, shouldn't still be dicking around with these teenibopper flicks anymore; she has a far more accomplished resume than hillary duff, britany spears, amanda bynes, linsay lohan, etc.).

The Forgotten this was pretty funny. it wasn't supposed to be. there are a couple of "make-you-jump-out-of-your-seat" moments. but they're few and far between, and let's face it, the scenes were only exciting for a fleeting second because the rest of the movie was so god awful slow and hokey. And there are more gaping plot holes in this thing than the village, signs, and every Roland Emmerich movie combined. disappointing cuz I was hoping for a thriller version of eternal sunshine. oh well. it is september movie season.

edit: wow. accomplish must be my word of the week. :?

was forced to watch Evil woman (or saving silverman for you yanks) which was absolute shit, the only decent bit in it was the guy from full metal jacket as a crazy P.E teacher and jack black whose always good (except shallow hal of course)

That would be R. Lee Ermey. Fucking awesome actor, let alone the host of the History Channel's Mail Call and numerous TV spots.

Best "You've got Mail!" EVER!!!

much, much, much, much better. Barring a few minutes of footage from 1997, the dvd quality is superb as said. Video and sound are unbelievable, they fixed a lot of the shit from the films they missed and should have done. Sure the ending to ROTJ is still worse than the original, that singer is stupid, and the Mos Esley bit is crappy, beyond that though, they are much better quality.

The extras are awesome, there just aren't enough of them for my liking, but as said, best DVDs available to date :)

I hope that too, but let him finish the 3rd movie first.
after may 2005 he can do all of the above

that's because the lightsaber of Darth Vader (in the battle versus Obi Wan) was not coloured in the final print (right after Obi Wan is slaughtered and the doors close)

I've to check my DVDs to see if they coloured it now.
