The name change (ie. Mad Max 2 to The Roadwarriror, then after to Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior) came from the studio executives releasing the movie before Mad Max had a cinema release, and also why the voiceover at the begining was added on request. They felt that the US audience would be confused by what had happened (why everything was crappy
), so the name was changed and that little intro sequence that explains what happens was tacked on.
The initial US alternate version is distiguished by a unique "lightning bolt" design for the title logo. Subsequent US releases still bear The Road Warrior title, but in block lettering, and contain the full original footage.
They changed it back later as you can see:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082694/alternateversionsI emphasised cinema release, because it may have slipped across on video, I'm not sure, but what I read in Empire Magazine and imdb is that the US theatrical release for Mad Max 2 happened without a theatrical release for the first. Which is why the changes were made, since with no theatrical release, the people who had seen the first wasn't high enough. Mad Max got a limited release when Beyond the Thunderdome was showing.
However, I can only go on what I've read, if your telling me that Mad Max was released theatrically first, then I guess empire are wrong.
Incidently:
The UK Warner Bros. PAL video is uncut & longer than the US R rated print; the extra footage (mere seconds) contains graphic torture to the good guys.
Is the version I have on DVD I hope, tis warner bros DVD
Anyways, I watched The Village (can this guy be anymore predicatable or what, maybe I have a sixth sense (
), but his twists are so obvious, this one I had guessed almost right off. May have been a fluke guess, but you could tell
*SPOILER**SPOILER*the elders were keeping the kids in line, and that there was a 99% chance that when she got through to the other side of the woods it would be modern times.... it was just sooooooo obvious*SPOILER**SPOILER*.) then I watched Resident Evil: Botchpocalypse.
