Anyone remember this series/movie ? Plz help...

Postby Kareltje538 on Sat Aug 14, 2004 10:58 pm

Don't know if this is the right forum-part to ask this,
but anyway...here goes nothing

me and my brother had watched this sci-fi series (we believe it was)
in the early 80's on TV. It could have been a movie as well, but I was about 10 and he was 12,so we don't quite remember.

The only thing we know about it was that there was some kind of
a cellar involved in which there was a painting with strange lights.

This painting served as a sort of gateway for...aliens,monsters....who knows?

O yeah and the show was aired in Holland. It should have been 1982 or 1983,something like that.

Can anybody remember a series or movie like that ?

We have searched for years off and on and since over a year more thoroughly, because of internet of course.

Hope to hear from you :hihi:

Hmm....saturday the 14th is at 56.8 % now with downloading,but
did a preview and don't think it's the right one.....

A collegue of mine mentioned to me a tv-series with (he believes) Patrick MacNee that sounded somewhat the same. From around the same period (but maybe earlier).

But a search on imdb on MacNee didn't show any tv-series like that...

Anyone else any idea ????

Funny, IMDB took me right to Patrick MacNee. There's no description for Empire (1984). I looked at all the TV Series he was in & none fit the description. Sure it wasn't a TV Movie?

try asking here http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000001/threads/

They are usually very good at this kind of stuff.
Ahh.. no offence, but you are a robot, aren't you?

@mw2merc : i didn't mean i couldn't find MacNee on imdb,i just
couldn't find a tv-show that fitted it (like you).

I searched along for Empire, but no luck 'till now.

But for as well as mine memory as my collegue's : memory can play funny tricks on you,so you never know....

And John_Doe : thx for the tip of asking on imdb :P
Just registered there and I will enter my question.

The search continues

Damn Damn Damn Damn

otherwise : I'll be damned....

been snooping around on HhaH and found this one :
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=5216

Thought:what the hell,u never know....

Clicked on the imdb-link in it (no it wasn't that movie) and in the review
of it they mention Night gallery http://imdb.com/title/tt0065327/

And this is the official webpage : http://www.nightgallery.net/index.html?title.html&0

The Rod Serling follow-up on the Twilight Zone.

Now if that isn't the one I don't know any more :P

(however the only link is the painting of course)

Then it easily could have been a re-run of course in the early 80's....

but now a way to find out,my emule found a lot of them :D

Hi Kareltje.

So: Was it the right one ?

I must say: Your first description reminded me of something, even I am not sure: Was it really a painting ? Not a mirror ?

The one, I am thinking of, was aired at about the same time in Germany. But I think, it actually was a series for children - a scary one.

So your search results would not fit for me.

I've downloaded 3 episodes of it (I saw a topic this week at HhaH of anyone being interested in a dvd-rip of Nightgallery by the way).

But after watching pieces of them I'm not sure anymore.... :wacky:

Over at imdb someone suggested it could be a specific episode of the series, but of course that one isn't on the mule :?

But can you remember anything else about the series you mentioned ?

Because i reckon if i watched it those days (at that age) it hardly could have been a "grown-up" series at all.So maybe we're talking about the same thing.

And I couldn't find any records of Nightgallery being aired in Holland ever.

So can you dig any further into your memorylane ?

Hej. I am sorry, but there is nothing much, that I could tell. Just came to think of it, when I read your post. It´s not more than a vague childhood memory. Well, I was something about 10-12 as well.

What I am thinking of, surely was a series - not a movie, not one episode of a series. And it was for children. I am also quite sure about that. I don´t remember any excessive violence or real monsters. But had a spooky-scary atmosphere to it (at least for me at that age).

About the plot, I recall almost nothing. Main characters were a bunch of kids or youths (or maybe only one ?). And then there were the "evil guys" - with the mirror (or painting) in the basement, which - as you said - served as some kind of gateway. But where to, for what purpose - I have no idea. I am also not sure, if these evil ones were living in the neighbourhood of the children - but I think so. In any case, the children / the child discovers their secret.

Furthermore I think, that at least one of the bad guys was not human. Robot ? Alien ? Or was it all more about witchcraft magic stuff ? Am I mixing up two different stories here ?

I am really sorry, but I am afraid, that´s it already ...

Maybe you should ask at The Real World. They are into TV series there ...

If you get lucky, please let me know. Becoming curious myself ... :D

I kept thinking about it, and some pictures came to my mind. Actually, I am amazed: The human mind - what a miraculous thing ... :D

Well. Check this out - and let me know, if it is striking something in you.

1. I am 100 % sure, that one of the "evil ones" is a lady. And I remember, that they have a machine in their place, that looks like a solarium. I could imagine, that they indeed are aliens and need to lie in this machine to maintain their vital energy. Well, that last part is pure suggestion. But I do remember the lady lying in the machine.

2. Another picture: The one not being human (I mentioned before). I believe, it is a kind of man-size puppet (or is it a robot ?), that can be activated and de-activated. Thinking of him (because it definitely is a male), I always see Deta from Enterprise. My mind playing tricks ? Some similarity ?

Still, I am not sure, if I am mixing up two different stories here.

However. Please let me know, if anything of that sounds familiar to you. That, of course, applies to anybody around ...

I'm sorry I didn't respond any sooner...

I've been really overactive on many sites in Holland and therefore forgetting some of my "foreign subscriptions" :wacky:

You're really making this more complicated for me man

That fact from some sort of aliens or robots having to power theirself up in some way -like you say- does ring a bell.

But as we've both have said earlier....mind can play some funny tricks sometimes.

maybe (and you mentioned Data from TNG) I have too many images from the Borg in my mind too.....

This shows how new data in your head takes the place of old data which is therefore pushed back into another archive-drawer....or is it ??????

Anyway...we both need proffesional help with this one now :beerchug:
'cause we're driving ourselfs mad with it :?

i will take it to The Real World though....

Greetz from the -even more anxious- Dutch guy.
