there is no alien, space ships, time travel, robot, mad science man, doctors, super heros or beyond reality in this one.... do this crap belong here at all??

I thought it was decided that this site was also to host fantasy as well, so people who want can enjoy great titles like these.

Besides there is the argument that all fantasy is just SUPER future science fiction. All "magic" is in fact super hardcore technolagy.

Sci-fi is actually the weakest genre description out there. Unlike, horror, action, adventure, etc. it describes not emotion or style, but plot or setting which is a very shallow thing to do in my estimation and is an incorrect descriptive, however that's what sci-fi is.

I see no harm in extending the description to its fuller, science fiction and fantasy descriptive. I did post a while back that science fiction and fantasy is a better and applicable genre description (with fantasy being a sub-genre of science fiction, in so far that it takes science and distorts it to create an entirely false set of rules). Fantasy is merely a breaking of the rules of physics in a way that seems to fit into the horror genre.

With that in mind, I think stuff like Ridley Scott's Legend and LOTR can be posted.

Na, that's too much (your pulling my leg?). Indiana Jones is a sub category of action, adventure, with a bit of mysticism chucked in for good luck :) I wouldn't say it was much of a fantasy film at all, and if it is, its probably accidental or some connotation you have with the theme :)

Fantasy movies like LOTR, Legend, Dark Crystal, and the like (basically the books you'll see with scifi in any book shop is the type of stuff) was what I was referring to. I think its probably a good idea to exclude the type of fantasy like Forrest Gump and Big Fish too.

 unless of course you were pushing for action.dead-donkey and every other genre division

They're two best friends, a million miles from home. On an incredible adventure, beyond the boundaries of space and time. In a place called...The Land of Faraway.

Snip from Fear and Loathing release thread

come on...now that is seriously stretching the definition of a scifi movie that basically includes every movie ever made.

Yea there is a bit of a problem going on with off topic posts.... but all in all it dosn't really matter... a few off topic posts here and there are cool... for example I do nto mind any of the strange political docos.... they are not sci fi in any way.

If you like these kind of filicks I am working on a collection... .

science fiction and fantasy.

IMO This is very obviously a fantasy movie, drug induced but fantasy none the less.
Not exactly the staple fantasy part of the field, but that's why there's lord of the rings and other movies here.

As far as the grouping goes, fantasy is most often described as bending or breaking the laws of physics, which is one of the main reasons its clumped with scifi in any bookstore or video rental.

As far as offtopic goes, the documentry section is going a bit too far off course, what with obsessive political documentries on the states and the documentries on weed.

Agree about the documentaries going a bit too off topic. I like the psychedelic docus and even some of the political ones, but it really got nothing to do with SciFi anymore - and I can certainly find that stuff at other boards ...
