Hellboy at IMDb

Tagline: Give Evil Hell

Plot:
When a Nazi mystical experiment goes awry in 1944, the target of a wizard's spell, the child of Satan, Hellboy, is wrenched from his home, and adopted by the U.S. agents who intercept his arrival. Raised as a force of good, Hellboy grows up to be a full-fledged demon in the form of a man, complete with fierce red skin, a tail, a giant armored glove, and two large circles where his horns should be (if they ever grow back, Hellboy is quick to break them off). Now, the adult Hellboy, an investigator of the paranormal, is sent on a mission that brings him back in touch with the evil genius that started it all... that Nazi wizard (and just who is *he* anyway?). Accompanying him along the way are other agents, including Liz, a pyrokinetic woman Hellboy has feelings for, and Abe Sapien, a mysterious amphibian hominid...

Overall I liked this one, quite a bit actually. I never did read one of the comics of this, so I can't compare those.

Hellboy Scenes Added Back

Selma Blair, who co-stars with Ron Perlman in the comic-book movie Hellboy, told SCI FI Wire that an upcoming director's cut DVD will restore a number of scenes, including the first footage she shot during production. "I think it's just the scenes cut out," Blair said in an interview. "I have a lot of scenes with Agent John Myers that got cut out, because there was more of a love triangle, and they're showing the first scene that I shot in the movie."

Blair, who played Hellboy's (Perlman) love interest, Liz Sherman, said that she can't believe that one scene in particular made it back into the extended cut of the film, since it departed from the elegiac tone of the rest of the material. "I'm so mortified," Blair said. "I'm playing this tortured, somber, monotone girl who doesn't have a zest for life yet, and the first scene we shot, we're leaving the mental hospital I just blew up. For some reason it didn't occur to me that was where I came from, and I'm in this taxicab with agent John Myers [Rupert Evans] taking pictures, smiling and flirting."

Blair said that director Guillermo del Toro realized later how inappropriate the sequence was, but the material was fun for her to revisit for the upcoming extended cut of Hellboy. "We shot the rest of the movie, and Guillermo was like, 'What were we thinking?'" Blair said. "You realize I'm not quite Nicole Kidman yet when you see that scene, because it just makes no sense. I completely forgot when we were shooting it that I had just blown up a building, and I had this big beret on my head. They used one shot of that outside the taxi, and I'm smiling, and [Guillermo] said it looks like Jiffy Pop on my head. I'm completely out of character." Hellboy: The Director's Cut is scheduled for release Oct. 19.
