Does anyone still watch TV?

Postby Blade Runner on Tue Jun 29, 2004 9:58 pm

Does anyone still watch TV now you have the opportunity to download almost every TV series or movie? I never watch it at all now unless I'm round at a mates house and always get suprised and annoyed by the Adverts.

I like the choice of watching what I want and not being drawn into watching mindnumbing crap for the sake of it.

I rarely do at all, except for reruns of The Golden Girls, of course.

mostly live tv - sporting events. also premium cable series like deadwood, sopranos, etc. plus there's VOD now, so you can see anything airing on hbo, cinemax, showtime, or tmc whevever.

depends, I sometimes have it on for ambeince, but I don't even have a tv anymore, I got a VCR linked up through a dv bridge (with an output to my TFTs analogue composite), and then I have have sky and some consoles plugged into the vcr.

So sometimes I have video-in-video (ie overlay tv on my DVI, via my monitor). Normally only watch the simpsons when I remember.

heeeey.... thats actually a good question, i think.
since the use of our entertainment media shifted so significantly and we`re right in the middle of it and usually care the least.

i hardly watch any tv anymore (and right now there are only re-runs of the simpsons that i know by heart, so... ).
turning it on and watching a bit often makes me sneering.

but i learned that its a whole different experience now, watching some tv.
like i`m in that one particular mood and if a tv and a remote is nearby, then its an hour of the good ol switching kind of fun. 8)
but that`s shifted as well: more educational stuff, more news and infotainment and especially the scientifical stuff ( imo, tv producers evolved a lot in terms of how to put up an entertaining sci-show)

I'll take you on simpsons trivia  In episode ....

I've been watching them on sky since they started, none stop... to think they were only showing them once a week to start off with is weird :o When sky started in england I used to watch nickelodeon too

Difference with me, I guess, is that I can watch them over and over and really don't get that discouraged (there's only a few episodes that I really don't like and can't sit down and watch, but I leave them on in the background). So I've seen them all a lot. I've also seen all red dwarf a lot of times. I used to put the tapes in and let them play on repeat

Ultra-sad I know, but beats all the junk they put on tv.

Most watched channels: Sci-fi --> skyone --> Horror channel (I'm hoping it will get better) --> one of the discovery channels.

I'll be happy when the BBC opens its archives. There's a lot of good stuff, I'm just put off by poor scheduling :(

i used to play all my blackadder tapes on repeat  , when i had sky (got rid of it coz i was paying £30 a month and only watched about 6 channels out of 99999999999999, they were pretty much scifi, bravo, paramount and granada plus, tv pretty much sucks now tho, the bbc should really open theyre archives i agree with spud on that, they used to show so much good stuff, then reality shows, fly on the wall docus took over and replaced the good stuff for shite.
i remember when bbc2 used to show man from uncles, star trek, randall & hopkirk deceased (the good original not shite new one), the chapions, stingray, thunderbirds, capt scarlet, ufo, space1999 etc etc

my mate says they are available for download somewhere, if that is true I dont watch TV at all :D

I got most interesting parts captured over the years. So if anyone NEEDS to see something I can put it on my server.

I got the interview and lap with Patrick Stewart in the reasonable priced car :D

I loved the whole 'indestructable 4x4' sequence they did. I can't believe that think still started :o

I do watch TV almost every day. I tend to stick with SciFi, Comedy, Bravo (Celeb Poker), FX (The Shield), & some TechTV (Most G4 is crap), AMC, TCM, and of course, the Food Network for Emeril & Iron Chef.
