Scifi Movie you would most like to see made?

Personally, I'd like to see a movie made based on the book Season of Passage by Christopher Pike.

Sounds real good actually. Now that we've talked about it, it'll be out in a few years.

It's a really great book. Rather spooky and I just love horror and scifi blended together in one story like that.

He's mostly known for writing horror novels for teens and older children but he has a few books for adults. Season being one of them, The Cold One, and The Listeners. He has a new one out called The Blind Mirror that I'm dying to read!

Pike was the original stargtrek capt.

That book dose sound good though... I might go pick it up this weekend... juts finnished the dune series for the 3rd time... so need somthing new... I used to just randoml;y grab books but so often they are crap now. I find myself reading old classic books more and more.

personally i think illegal alien would make an excellent new adventure/film with or without sly mccoy & sophie aldred (although i always felt they fitted more with WW2 settings) the writing is top notch and the story is more adult oriented and exciting to read

Another book I would LUV to see as a film would be this on... "The Black Cloud" Written in 1957 by Fred Hoyle (kinda like Carl Sagan, as in a scientist who's specialised was in bridging the gaps between the top scientists and the rest of mankind) Another great book of his is "A for Andromeda" witch Sagan basically ripped off for his CONTACT book. Though imo the Hoyle books is VASTLY superior. (Hoyle was one of the founding members of SETI)

The Cloud is about a giant alien intelligence in the form of a giant cloud in space. This is often credited as the first time in written history that this idea was put forth that intelligence can exist outside of a caporial body. A very common idea now with things like AI computers and "evolution into energy beings" as very every day concepts.

The difference is that this is a hardcore scientist writing these fiction works. So the characters are a bit dry, there is a little to much "I'm a full on English toff from the Cambridge teachers staff room" feel. BUT the science fiction is as hard as it gets.

The argument between earth and the cloud on the subject of intelligence and the way thoughts evolve are as good as reading some philosophy books

Another book I would luv to see as a film would be Arthur C Clarks "Rendezvous with Rama" I do not think this book or author needs a introduction.

Rendezvous with Rama is a story of a giant space ship wandering into the earths solar system. It is giant, empty and full of mysteries. The book is about the explorers who venture inside it and experience things they can't even begin to imagine.

IMO one of the better Clark books and one of the best "exploitative" science fiction efforts I have ever read. Not a lot happens in this book, just a bunch of guys exploring a dfreakn cool space ship and a lot of science fiction babble about technolagy and evoution and the like.

Note if you like exploitative science fiction --> Red Dragons is for you.. It is written like a wild life guide, or a natural history documentary, describing the life cycles of life that inhabit a strange planet, that sits between to red giant suns. The planet is kinda like jupiter but with a solid center.. PURE science fantasy.. basicaly this book is a imagin alien life forms and try to stay away from earth like stuff. V.cool.

Starship Troopers is a great book and a great movie as well. You should be careful not to confuse the two, as they only share a few common names.

What I want to see is Kim Stanley Robinsons Red, Green and Blue Mars trilogy. Probably almost unfilmable without dumping huge amounts of detail. James Cameron planned a mini-series but dumped it in favour of doing Dark Angel instead. It'd make a nice antidote the simplified fluff like Bradbury's Martian Chronicles.

Man I'd be jump on that wagon as well if it turned up. Doing it as a mini series sounds like a good idea to. I wish more movies were made like "Band of Brothers" I mean Lord of the Rings is a prime example of a movie that could have been made so much better by having an extra 5 hours of footage!!

I think Red,Blue,Green would make a great show.. but it IS to much for a film.

not at all... lotr is one of the best books ever written, luv it or hate it ... whatever.. the fact is that book will be around and getting studied 1000's of years later like the Iliad, Odyssey, paradise lost etc etc.

If they just kept it to the original story instead of changing it all around (on the director commentary there is a point in the scripts chick says they the rewrote bits to make it better!! THE GAUL)

Thing is they couldn't it was to big... so I would have luved a longer version witch sat true to the books.

too weird noone mentioned neuromancer just yet. it's been rumored for years that Chris Cunningham is supposed to direct it, and various scripts are circulating all over the intarweb.

personally, i think a "modernist" adaptation of NM would be seriously flawed because most probably, post-millenial visual aesthetics would be applied-- but NM is *so* 1980s, it should rather look like a cheap, beaten down plastic corssover of The Running Man and Blade Runner. or heck, just like blade runner.

i hate bluescreen acting. however bad the actors, in a built set they act so much more naturally & convincing--- you were talking about Event Horizon in this thread, too-- and well, lots of the set was actually built (i.e. the medical facilities), and it looked so darn real. (correct me if im wrong 'bout event horizon, but it really does *not* look like CG)

most sest are built, but they do a lot of mat work now.... sy they build the wall ans the floor and then cg the roof on and the like.

I would really like some mroe books with a major theme of virtual reality. I mean we got a taste from the matrix movie, but as someone who thinks they are WAY overrated. (not the first though, but 1 + 2 so SUX), I really want to see more cyberpunk style films. But just cause of the content of the Matrix films they were watchable.

I think that The Dimond Age or Snow Crash would also make top class virtual reality films and if somone could pull it of mabey the Otherland books. Though Otherland has the same problem as Nuromaster in that you would be lord of the rings style commiting to 3 films or so to get the story out.

Another book is "The Reality Disfunction" has anyone read it.. it is a little adolecent the book but a top read... basicaly lots of sex, violence, space ships, Aliens, big battles, achient evil, undead armies etc etc + stuff...

Or Hyperion.. has anyone read taht book top class and the first book would make a great internaly coherent film while still allowing for sequal.

ha yeah, the reality dysfunction... peter f hamilton... you'd need 20 movies to fit the entire story in, cuz it doesnt stop until "the neutronium alchemist" and then there's still hamilton's independent stories compilation set in the same universe. it's totally hard SF..

perhaps the whole "post" cyberpunk literature would be more suitable to be made into a movie these days, such as gibson's "pattern recognition" or "all tomorrow's parties".. you'd just have to force the actor's through shibuya and there you go, post-post-whatever visuals

Snow Crash is a great book but not sure that they would would be able to get the humour across right on film. Diamond Age i think would work tho, again a top book.

id like to see a doctor who film actually starring the cybermen as the enemies instead of the daleks or master (only roger delgado played the master convincingly anyway anthony ainley and the rest are pathetic replacements)

unfortunately towards the end of the pertwee era delgado was killed in a road accident and it spelt the end of the pertwee era, pertwee was never my favourite doctor but the way he and delgado used to play off each other as doctor and master was acting at its best imo

and by cybermen i mean the way they were in the troughton era, they were never as good afterwards, in the troughton era they actually looked powerful and menacing, later they just seemed lacking and average

got 2 b war of the worlds, have waited for years for a good version to be made, but i guarantee that the americans will set it in modern new york or some other crap , if they keep it to the book which is brilliant and set it in victorian england with the jeff wayne musical score it would be awesome but i guarantee they will give will smith or some other piss poor actor the title and completely ruin it

There actually is a movie, that is based on a William Gibson short story. Name is "John McMonic" or something like that. Keanu Reeves and Ice-T are in it, and I actually liked it.

Would love to see some of the Cyberpunk classics: Gibson of course, but most of all "Schismatrix" by Bruce Sterling. It´s a fantastic book, and I actually think, it could work well as a movie.

Looking forward to X-Men 3 and Blade Trinity.

And I really would love to see a good movie made of Huxleys "Brave New Wolrd" - as I think, the best utopian book ever and one of my all time favourites.
