Futurama S6E03

I enjoyed this one, it felt a lot tighter and like the Futurama we all loved. Its a mockery of the iPhone and apple fanboys so that made it better too :)

due to the new futurama season being aired i decided i should get round to watching the last 2 films, frankly the third film is absolutely crap, with the dungeons and dragons plot, really really bad

that is the weakest... .I liked the 1st 2 films.. I think the new series is watchable.. nothing amazing yet but I think most fans are being to hard on it...

Harry Brown
Newish Michal Cain film. It is a typical vigilante citizen film... Like Sudden Death, or The Brave One. I liked it.. it has a very slow pacing with I thought would be a drag at the start but I am convinced the film only works because of the slow pacing. It is a brit film, so do not expect over the top stuff, though the violence is graphic is is not over stated.. I mean you do not get cars exploding and chance sequences and stuff. Cain is as good as always, and there is a perceptually good scene with the drug dealers.. (you will know when you see it). I live in a high crime neighborhood myself and find these vigilante citizen films really fun... if you haven't seen it I would suggest u track this and Sudden Death down.

simpsons doesn't work @ 30mins anymore either. I'm pretty sure if they'd have made a film back ~s2-7 they'd have got a decent film.

Simpsons is just sloppy writing and slapstick these days.

i was more generalising the entire series then just the current eps, simpsons isn't what it used to be, now it's more "let's see how many momentarily "hot" celeb voices we can cram in this week, regardless of if they fit into the story at all"

To be honest, Simpsons has been more not than hot if you look at its history. It was good series 2 through maybe 9, then diminished. Its now in series 21.

So Simpsons you'd have to generalize that and say the simpsons is crap.

futurama seams to be steadily getting better and better.. still not as good as it was but very watchable. s6e04 has some really cool bender lines in the 1st 1/2. I think I am going to go on record saying this new series is a win.

Predators (2010)
Good movie. Not great but good. I was not disappointed. I would have done some things differently, but there's nothing here glaringly wrong. It is what it is, as it were. It's a Predator movie. It's full of logical leaps and narrative elisions. It's an action movie. It starts fast. No dicking around. Lots of homage and winks back to the first movie, but don't think because you know the first by heart that it will just replay that - it doesn't. It's just purposefully aware of what came before. Nothing lifted from second movie - that I noticed - except the presence of multiple preds themselves and the suggestion that they've been doing this for a while. It's not really a predators movie as that would be ridiculously uneven - someone mentioned this in the anticipation thread. Honestly, this is as good as I could reasonably expect for such a sequel - it could be better, but realistically, you're asking for too much to expect more. also, I don't think this is significantly different in any way from its predacessors from a logic standpoint. it doesn't feel the same, but that's because I'm not a 10 year old kid watching it for the first time.

there is a little Rodriguez feel to it also. hard to explain, but parts of it did feel a bit like desperado or dusk till dawn even in scenes that were obviously playing off of the first movie. take for example the syndicate guy dueling ala billy in original

DK scale: 5/10

I'd give it a C+/B-.

latest TRUE BLOOD was good. except for the erik's dream bit.

have you read the comic mini series prequalling the movie? i got them but haven't had a chance to read yet.

I wonder if they didn't have nods to the 2nd film because it was pretty bad really

I didn't like the second one much either. but again...very little from that movie is really bad (I didn't like king willy shite or the character bill paxon played). jungle better than city? ok. but city makes sense. the major differences are: already know the conceit of the the predators and not a tweenager while watching for first time.

it's like...look...

<diatribe mode>

there's no doubt that the original SW was considerably better than the prequels in every way and there was a certain magnetism to harrison ford's personality. but I'm not daft. there's a reason alec guiness groaned when generations of people identified him as obi-wan kenobi. there's a lot of stupid, 50's pulp in there. C3PO isn't Jar Jar, but...joan rivers wasn't exactly a stretch to spoof him with. I was a kid when I saw it, and I know that fact drastically affects how I appreciate the movie. hate to say it, but PREDATOR is the same deal on a smaller scale. so no new version of it is ever going to live up to what came before...I don't think so anyway.

i always felt C3PO was meant as a joke anyway, in some ways Rimmer from Red Dwarf reminds me a lot of C3PO

heading off to VC on sunday (i hate vancouver, grrr)... I will have to catch Inception, I hear its good and whatever else is showing.

Watched True Blood, good stuff, although felt a bit slapstick... Sookie was all slutty looking which was fine by me.
