Watched the harry potter film today and it was, meh.

Kind of pedestrian, but barring the back to the future rip off one they've all been a bit paint by numbers, but particularly the last two (I think its the same director for both, and unfortunately I think he's making the next two). This one was a lot more 'uneventful' than the others, so will probably be panned (I've not read any reviews).

It was okay though, but it wasn't really as 'magical' as this type of film should be :) They should bring back the team that did the Back to the Future one, that film was wonderful.

edit: "prisoner of azkaban" - if anyone is wondering which one I was gibbering about.

oh and Jim Broadbent was great in it... they've really got a tour de force in terms of cast on that franchise.

They need Jonathan Pryce (Goverment / Authority type) and Michael Palin (Some random mr nice guy :) ).

HP 3, the one with the griffin thing that he flies. I agree. easily the best, most complete movie of the bunch.

got a free ticket that I'll be able to use by the weekend. prolly use it on the HP flick.

well...I haven't seen DAYLIGHT. and nobody I've ever spoken with liked it, so I wasn't compelled by word of mouth to check it out either. But STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT was a great movie. Oh. it's L-80s kitsch. but it's good times. not sure if that's a max thing or a british-american translation thing. it is comedy, and I know that doesn't translate well... :spy:

see if my friends had decided to mention how shit daylight was first.... i wouldve probably ignored them and found out for myself , btw stop! or my mom will shoot was 1992 wasn't it? though granted up until the end of 92 everything still felt very 80s.

I guess Stop! had one or 2 moments but overall it was more annoying then anything else.

By the way what is a max thing or a british-american thing? that i didn't like it?

weekend at bernie's is a great 80s film though, rewatched it again recently despite only having watched it 3 or 4 months back

yesh.

a max thing = your dislike of the movie is a matter of personal taste.

a british-american thing = your dislike of the movie is a result of some cultural incongruities.

I don't know the exact date. it feels 80s though. strangely, I would never say vanilla ice is 80s (1992), but STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT (1992) feels very much 80s. prolly as much to do with the golden girls actress as the brand of comedy. iunno. I thought it had a TANGO & CASH (1989) kind of feel to it though. more family friendly. but compare it to its 90s counterpart, LAST ACTION HERO (1993), which was a total disaster (despite some amazing talent: Die Hard director, shane black, f. murray abraham, ian mckellen, etc.).

see i love last action hero  i get what you mean about stop! though, it does have a more 80s feel to it, but like i say pretty much everything did until the end of 92, which is why to me the 80s was a 13 year decade.

Incidently i think you might be misunderstanding my hatred of that movie, it's not that i hate it in a "worst movie ever" way, i mean in my stallone movie ratings, it's one of his worst, as is daylight, though i did like the score to daylight, it had a john carpenter/shirley walker edge to it, which reminds me, i do love the escape from L.A. score, so much so i bought yes bought the cd of it, still have it too.

edit - stop! is still shit though :P

LAH was one of the worst box office flops of all time. not as bad as PLUTO NASH. but up there.

when i saw LAH it was at a friends house the day after it had been on terrestrial tv (network) and we both enjoyed it, to be fair the bits i like are all set in the jack slater film, once they come to the "real" world it gets a bit boring, LAH is better if you watch it as a lampoon of action films rather then as a serious action film.

Oh and yeah Pluto nash was a steamer, as was osmosis jones, bow finger, and pretty much anything eddie murphy has done since 1994 onwards

BOWFINGER was good imo. but yeah. he's made some seriously polarizing movies. I think MEET DAVE was the latest absolute bomb.

if meet dave had cost more to make, it may have challenged PLUTO NASH for the biggest flop in history. :outsider:

dunno about MEET DAVE. didn't see it. it was in and out of theaters in like 2 weeks. and I think it opened to maybe $10 million. more like 5, I think. but 10 is safe.

hmm...I did a little googling. It opened July 11, 2009 in 7th place of that week to the tune of $5.3 million, and it was out of theaters by July 18. However, it did gross around $11 million. Production costs were $60 million according to imdb.

as in tron? if not, then I don't know wtf torn man is. if so...I don't much care. but the video game was fun way back in the day when people played actual standalone video games in arcades rather than the shite the fill them with today.
