meh. except for the bitrate/decoding resource requirements, they aren't (functionally) any different from factory pressed DVDs. and I don't wanna sit here defending the format but...like...they are the only current source for those 1080p recodes and images. at least afaik, cuz the best OTA network and cable TV does is 1080i (usually upscaled).

Saw terminator 4. I liked it. I know it is not some master piece or anything but it had decent action and no to many cringe moments. I thought it was a decent continuation of the story and they went to some effort to try and seamlessly integrate the previous films into this one. Also like in the new trek I thought it was cool the way they nodded to a few fan boy moments... I'll be back, CG Arnie, scare on the head form T2 and others. I also really liked how the theme music was all fuckn gay and I leaned over to my mate and said.. they better do the BOOM BOM BOOM BOM BOOM at the end of the intro and then they hit us with that bit of the music super loud like 6 times in a row or something After that I though.. well I think this will be ok. I mean remember in re-animator 3? (I do not know how to street how much I love re-animator and bride of re-animator) as soon as I saw they fucked the theme music I knew I was in bad trouble :)

If I had one problem with the movie is that the terminators were so easy to kill... "Can you destroy it? "With these weapons I am not sure" well in the new film there weapons looks no different to current tech. still I did like the way it was developed as a real war.. not just humans in rags running about like rats...

Like I said not a master film but a worthy sequel imo... well worth a look at... and compared to some of the recent films I was dying to see.. (remember Indy or the new star wars?) I found it to NOT be a disappointment :)

meh. It WAS worlds better than T3. the ending was fucking ridiculously bad the heart transplant, not the cg-arnie, and the music/score was a travesty. I won't see it twice, but I didn't scream bloody rape either. you kind of know what you're getting when McG (CHARLIE'S ANGELS) is the director, after all.

Re: The last movie you saw...

TRANSFORMERS 2 was utter shite, and IMAX didn't do anything to improve its true flaws (plot/script), but there were some improvements. you could actually see Optimus and Bumblebee engage in extended fight sequences - and boy did they kick the shit out of a few decepticons. of course, we're talking about Prime beating on Megatron (before any enhancement) despite Megatron beating on him badly in the previous movie; so it has all the continuity of a comic book

IMAX was also supposed to be a longer cut with more robot action. so I might've seen more than jynks by virtue of that.

Let me give you some of the lowlights of ths thing: devestator's testicles; bumblebee produces twice as much bodily fluid as in the first movie; there are dozens more little decepticon robots instead of just that one little silver ewok (one of which I actually did think was cute/funny: he transformed into an rc car). and probably the worst thing about this movie was the dozen or so ripoffs of other (blockbuster) movies. and they're largely BAD things to emulate. for instance, the interaction between The Fallen and Megatron rips off THE PHANTOM MENACE darth sidious & darth maul. An infiltration of a human military base by a bunch of decepticons is a knockoff of MATRIX 3 a shitload of little tiny things combine to make a new silver ewok thing. the climax combines elements of INDY 5 (shia lebouf) with the plot of STARGATE. speaking of STARGATE, if you know the cartoon, then you know of another kind of gate, which finds its way into the movie as a knockoff of...get this...JUMPER. and the absolute worst, most completely bad...nay...horrendous moment of the movie - even moreso than Jynks' complaint about the decepticon base on another planet (not the clouds, silly) - was the knockoff of TERMINATOR 3. I'm not going to say what or how. Just rest assured that they do it, and I forgot how to close my own mouth. the strange thing is that you can pretty easiliy see how those morons in charge of the script/plot came to this asinine decision, but it continues to absolutely baffle that they would do it.

anyway, definitely not worth wasting your money on (that might encourage yet another bayformers movie), but worth watching a rip of it just so you can have an MSTK 3000 night with it. if there's a way to watch just a couple of the fight scenes (especially the second fight optimus has with a bunch of decepticons in the woods), that's pretty cool to see and probably worth seeing just by itself...if you can get someone to edit it for you.

that reminds me: about a 3rd or more of the audience actually clapped during multiple scenes in the movie. wow. we really are sheep. :o

I know you know it was 4, but I couldn't see that w/o fixing cuz T2 is one of my all time favorite movies.

so far this summer: STAR TREK, followed distantly by UP, followed distantly by WATCHMEN, followed by T4: SALVATION, followed by...fuckall...I don't even know. I wasn't *offended* by WOLVERINE. :?

this has not been a fun summer at the movies for me...even when I'm only looking for a popcorn flick. and although I actually loved THE MUMMY (1999), I hated the sequel, have no faith in steven sommers, and think G. I. Joe looks patently gay (those cybersuits? seriously? and there's actually a character named (G. I.) "Joe"?). I'm terribly afraid at this point that HARRY POTTER is going to take the third spot on the list.
:(

haven't seen HANGOVER and prolly won't see ICE AGE.

PS - yes, they clapped. really. and more than once (like when optimus appears to save the day or doesn't die or some shit; it happened on 3 or 4 separate occasions)

 yes i figured spud meant t4, but i just wanted to make sure i hadn't misunderstood his t2 love all these years

Seriously... they clapped because a fucking giant robot managed not to die?? i hope you started flinging your own excrement at them.

I watched *Knowing (1080p bluray untouched image)* the other night, the nic cage film starring his ever non changing hairstyle for the last 50million years wig... i think i got it mixed up with another film, it started um...... watchable..... then by the end i just wanted to kill myself because all it did was actually make me feel really depressed, i don't know whether it was the subject matter that made me feel depressed or the fact i really thought it was a different movie...

Though i will give it one great big HUGE credit, unlike most movies that come out of hollywood these days, they decided against tacking on a happy ending to please audiences, instead they went with a miserable desolate ending that just made you feel "oh...um.... ok..... wasn't expecting that" which made a nice change to oh any film from the last ten years.

Unfortunately it was so full of Religious under/overtones that it did make some scenes a bit preachy and ridiculous.

Not a film i would watch again probably, after all i know all the twists and such now, and i don't usually have the urge to be made to feel down

I cheered myself up by watching the untouched 1080p bluray of Ferris Bueller :)

Jynks wrote:@dinky you forgot the gremlins scene... :)

 I only mentioned ripoffs of bad movies (but yeah, there was also the first MATRIX thingy in the mouth). but good point. ;)

maxpayne2409 wrote:Seriously... they clapped because a fucking giant robot managed not to die?? i hope you started flinging your own excrement at them.

didn't die. managed to kill a slightly larger robot. made his first appearance in the film. got upgraded. it felt really...awkward. I did laugh at more of the stupid jokes this time around. and I tried not to laugh at the people clapping (caught me by surprise on the first ovation, and I laughed out loud a bit).

I watched *Knowing (1080p bluray untouched image)* the other night,

stop. don't move. I'll go get you a towel. nah. I saw the previews for that and ran the other way.

Not a film i would watch again probably, after all i know all the twists and such now, and i don't usually have the urge to be made to feel down

so there was nothing depressing enough to make you cry? just a slow slip into nada? I ask cuz so much theory about tragedy and tragic pleasure revolves around a catharsis of some kind (pity & fear according to aristotle). and...well...anyway, crying IS cathartic and accompanied by a feeling of relief (i.e. pleasure). so there's prolly something to it.

well i did find myself listening to a lot of simple plan/linkin park afterwards  no i didn't really, but yeah it just kind of made me feel a bit "what's the point of anything", and then i realised i'm nearly 27 still single, still living at home, and still working in a dead end job", so i went to bed so i could be unconscious, so i guess if that was the films intent it worked to a massive extent on me, usually films don't really affect me but for some reason this one got under my skin. Maybe it was Cage's ultra amazing acting performance......, actually jokes aside i do like cage's acting style actually, it reminds of the cheesey acting from 50s b-movies
