have you ever seen Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado dinky? i think it's pixar/dreamworks isn't it? and i wanted to know if you thought it was any good, because i played the adventure game of it the other day, and while the game was a real peice of piss with no challenge whatsoever, i really liked the story so was wondering if the actual film is worth checking out, and your the only person i can think of who has probably watched it and can give an accurate review

I've seen THE ROAD TO EL DORADO (2000). It is a traditional Dreamworks animation written by the guys who wrote SHREK (2001) and PotC (2003). It was a good movie (barely). It was basically ALADDIN (1992) in a slightly different setting (also written by the same duo). Aladdin had better, more memorable characters - same basic plot and character relationships though. So when you look at it as an ALADDIN copy...it's meh. I prefer TREASURE PLANET (2002) from the same writers. It tanked at the box office, but it was a better movie, and even though it's all standard archetypes, it wasn't as if I was watching a copy of a movie that the same people had already done (better) 10 years earlier.

isn't that the "man-in-the-suit" getup from the end of ALIEN? I ask, cuz that's easily the second worst alien visual (the worst is hands down the abortion in A4). anyway, it looks like they chose the least interesting mold possible.

Yes, in Aliens its just guys running around and jumping. In Alien its slower and if you watch it move there's more 'alien' movement on display. Cameron, and rightly so for his film, removed the extra parts, removed the skull below the dome, reduced the height, added more weight to the aliens.

I was just picking up on your criticism with an, 'actually'. The video clip is a deleted scene where they were playing with the motion of the alien to break the man in a suit, and its one of many that show the alien moving in different ways.

meh. you've obviously seen these movies many times more than me, but I only remember one decent shot of the Alien in the first movie...it was when he grabbed the guy on the chains (ergo, not walking erect but in some sort of crouch). nothing compares to the alien coming off the wall in ALIENS though...as far as "regular"/"warrior" aliens are concerned.

And speaking of Alien differences, I really do like what Alien 3 did in solidifying the genetic inheritance of the host.

Alien -> skinny miner -> skinny weirdo
Aliens -> colonists, miners, security/army -> armies of cannon fodder
Alien 3 -> An Ox :lol: -> fast moving, 'unstoppable' alien... unless you throw a black at it and then drop lead then water on it.
Alien 4 -> Retards -> a big white turd

In the vastly inferior theatrical it burst out of a dog.

In the vastly superior workprint and 'extended' editions it burst out of one of the Ox's they use to pull the wreckage into the scrapyard:

except for possibly affecting the overall size of the alien, I'm not sure a see a difference between ox and dog. are you referring to the way it happens (from one or the other animal) or that it happens at all? I think I only saw the extended version with the unfinished audio at the end.

The corridor scenes for example, where the alien is running down prisoners to their deaths one after another was written like a 'running of the bulls' sequence if you watch.

They are taunting the alien, then running away and hiding, leading it to a central area where they attempt to kill it.

The whole behaviour and speed/size/strength of the alien fits a heck of a lot better I thought, it made more sense infact. When I saw the extended print (apart from it filling in plot holes, like well the fact that several members of the cast just disappear :lol: ), it made more sense to me.

bluray

Hence why it means diddly squat and won't be bought by me, waiting for this noddy format to shuffle off. I hope they release a proper format sooner or later, preferably not a bit update that just means its slightly bigger and a heck of a lot slower than existing means :?
