yes..... instead of quicker.

Anyway smutty banter aside, ive got superman 1-3, ferris buellers day off, big, and star trek 1-6 in 1080p bluray so i am going to watch one tonight, i'm hedging towards either superman 1 or star trek 4

well superman 1 is cornball, so I'd go with one of the star treks. since I don't remember any of them very well (except maybe Khan & Generations), I'd play roulette with it.

although I'm curious to see what a bluray transfer of big or bueller looks like (quality wise).

seeing as your classifying superman as cornball?! i should point out star trek 4 that i also mentioned is the one where they travel back to the 80s to get the whales, also known as the best trek movie ever.... cue the hate mail lol

Incidently i dont know how to make samples from mkvs so i cant help you with the transfers, btw i just checked, turns out ferris and big are actually only 720p, but big trouble in little china is 1080 which i was looking at when i said Big

see? I don't know which star treks are which, so I can say that. whereas I know superman 1 is a pos that is a complete and utter embarrassment in this day and age of "serious" comics adaptations. supes 2, on the other hand, is loaded with 80s kitsch, but it's built around a solid story and, therefore, is at least watchable - I would go so far as to say good (would be even better if the fx weren't so dated).

to be fair i find many people take the easy option to badmouth movies from the days before cg, when effects weren't as good, granted superman 1 is better done as the 90min recap at the beginning of superman 2, but still, it's not really able to be compared effects wise with todays movies

meh. so much of the movie is tied to the appeal of its fx though. we're not talking about citizen kane. the plot, dialogue...that's pretty inconsequential to the movie. although I'd like to add, that the plot was ridiculously bad (reverse time by reversing the rotation of the earth?), and playing lex luthor, the only villain of the movie, for a clown...mmm...no.

I agree in general about the can't compare/bash older movies for not having cgi. hell, cgi is utterly abused these days. my point is that the awe of seeing superman on the bigscreen was all the movie had going for it. it was a shit plot. a shit script. a shit premise. the sequel did a lot to correct most of those issues.

2 cents, of course. but I do feel pretty strongly that the only "greatness" of that movie is nostalgia, having little or nothing to do with the thing as a movie.

PS - the save the whales plot was far worse than "reverse the earth" theory.

but lex was played far worse in lois & clark, by that stupid moppy haired fag from mutant x or whatever it was called.

I have one thing to say regarding star trek 4... yeah well a double dumbass on you :P, it's just a fun film

Star Trek 11 is so freakn good it is scary. Note that it is 11.. and not just renamed star trek 1.... just another small step of how cool these guys are. The guys that wrote this are fuckn geniuses the entire story.. as set in the past (ie: kirks time) starts with people coming in from the future... and doing some major things to the star trek universe...the show ends with it back on track.. as the enterprise crew is together... BUT EVERYTHING is changes... it is all set in a totally alternative reality version of TOS.... so there is nothing the trek nerds can complain about.. they can just keep making moves form here and as it is a new universe there is no continuity errors... it is DC multiverse all over again The acting is frickn awesome... the actors went to some great efforts to mimic the original actors... the performance of Bones stands out.... I was really going in expecting a ass fucking... but no this movie was pure class... it did NEW things.. was piss funny, nodded to all the trek nerds like me and was totally awesome in every way... I loved it... best move I have seen in ages.

If you are not a trek fan you will like it but if you can probably quote the entire 5 shows like I can then you will LOVE this movie. God I hope it kick starts the franchise again.

who's calling it 11? it is actually a reboot, isn't it? or a prequel? same characters, so those are the only options, I think.

definitely gonna see it, but I gotta say...judging by the previews, it doesn't look anything like a STAR TREK movie or show. It looks more like action sci-fi (which I like - just sayin' it doesn't seem like "Star Trek").

Well no.. i can not go into it with out spoiling.. but it follows directly from Star Trek X, Taking events form Re-unification form the TNG series. It really is some clever writing... for a change.

Totally... it is a full action scifi... just a ton of battles and explosions :)... The worst thing in the film is that aussie guy.. um.. Chopper or w/e his name is.... he is the only actor that stands out as bad... and he aint that bad... the rest of teh casting is so perfect.

eric bana, I think. he was a terrible hector and a terrible hulk as well. dunno if it's him as an actor or just terrible casting(s). haven't seen CHOPPER. :?

I don't know the ST mythos well enough to understand a word you said about where it gets its plot from, but meh. gonna see it.

which one was 10? NEMESIS? (it's definitely TNG territory to be numbered that high) iunno. it feels weird that I've seen them all (the older ones multiple times), but I can't remember any of them tbh.

7 is generations, then onwards its tng, ten was nemesis i believe, i never saw it because it looked absolute shit, though there will only ever be one bones end of story.

Eric Bana was actually ok in aussie comedy "the nugget", im not saying he's ace in it, just ok, but saying that, the nugget is the only film i've ever seen him in to my knowledge

my review from FH:

STAR TREK (2009)
easily the best ST movie. not even close. if you like sci-fi and you don't particularly like ST, then this is a movie I highly recommend. as that recommendation indicates, I'm not a big fan of the franchise to begin with. I prefer action sci-fi, hence SW over ST (in general). technically, this is not a reboot - or so I'm told. I don't remember much about the last ST (not sure if I even watched the whole thing cuz I didn't like any of TNG movies). In essence, though, it is definitely a reboot. You'll know what I mean when you watch it.

some criticism: there is a preachiness - a very pop preachiness - that rubs me the wrong way involving Spock's character development. The movie moves fast and glosses a lot of stuff. It's very much an action flick (ala THE SW trilogy). I'm not sure how this movie rubs ST fans, and I don't particularly care for the above reasons. but as action sci-fi goes, this is good. however, I don't wanna oversell this: the I, Robot with wil smith was headier stuff (and also action oriented).

this also starts with a bang and more or less doesn't slow down. that's pretty typical of j. j. abrams from what I can tell.

i've not seen it myself, but from what i've heard from others, your review is pretty accurate, though also apparently it's actually quite well liked by ST fans too as it doesn't try and remake the classic characters more it does an alternate universe take on them if you get me
