SMALLVILLE officially sucks and blows again. when clark moved to metropolis and lois was in his orbit, things were looking good. but the story arc they've been working on the last few eps with lana is complete horse shit. and I think she's a better actor than the lois chick. it's just so "been there. done that. move on, please." and the broken lex stuff is retarded too. I get that the actor isn't on the series so they had to disappear lex, but there are much better ways.

ok i watched smallvilles latest ep and i do agree it's really just silly now, all the characters seemed like they had had their personalitys reversed, and the whole story was just complete bollocks, i stopped watching lost and heroes coz i couldn't be bothered with their fuckwitting about.

Just finished the new battlestar.

Really great episode, right up there with the Pegasus episode and back to how it should be every week. Can't wait for next week!

TAKEN (2009).
iunno. someone already said it was MAN ON FIRE-esque. that pretty much sums it up. a more processed/homogenized version of MAN ON FIRE (tony scott version). it was a "classic" movie in the sense of plot action. that also means you know what is, what was, and what will be when you take you seat. it's competent. it passed the time. it's not your usual brainless (action) movie, but it was neither engrossing nor shocking etc.

if you have to choose between the two, GRAN TORINO is similarly "classic" but a considerably better experience. they're both accessible and unpretentious.

Yea I like good old fashioned PTF (pushed to far) movies. Taken was ok I guess. I much preferred man on fire.. I thought that movie was really good I do not know why everyone seams to hate it so much.

The PTF movies sorta started to die out in the 80s for some reason as people went all soft and wanted their heroes to be well.. faggots. No longer was the hero carving people up with a machete and the audiences.. going.. man that guy was cool. Heroes like Dirty Harry or Paul Kersey (Death Wish). Still they are coming back.. Death Sentence (2007), The Brave One(2007), Taken (2008), man on fire (2004), Punisher (1989/2004/2008), just to name a few of the comebacks in this style. Some people call them REVENGE flicks.. but I prefer PTF, as it collects a slightly different and more varied bunch of movies.

And Then there is the bazillion of cheaper moves where some guys perfect family gets killed in the opening scene... these just nvr stop coming... (steven segail moves for example)

Still if you wana see a classic PTF try Get Carter (1971).

meh. I really like MAN ON FIRE (remake) too, but there is one MAJOR difference in the plot that makes it far better, regardless of all other aspects between the two movies...
Spoiler:
Denzel dies. He burns hot, fast, and then out.

whereas TAKEN was fine for what it was. but it was a bit like...well...watching one of those eastwood westerns. just about everyone in the theater knows exactly what's gonna happen. the only question is whether he kills the guy with his own gun or not. seriously that predictable. but enjoyable. definitely not on the level of MAN ON FIRE. agree for sure.

about to watch...something. iunno. maybe some more of ERGO PROXY (anime). possible ROCKNROLLA.

oh no snow, what will the cockney swine do with a bit of snow? Shutdown EVERYTHING no doubt

I'm in Vancouver at the moment, been a bit dissapointed with the lack of snow storms... however if london is f*cked this weekend i'm screwed. I fly back on the 6th (which will land in the afternoon on the 7th), and i need to go through to London King's Cross to get the train to leeds.

Here's hoping the southern shandy drinking ponces have managed to pour grit on things without their entire infrastructure breaking down.

naw. it was definitely the colored thing that signifies an unread post. weird. :?

anyway...just watched ROCKNROLLA. liked it. stay away of guy richie's other stuff is distasteful to you. I like it, and this was prolly my fave of the bunch. nothing deep. just fun w/o being completely mind-rotting.

edit: for instance, no matter how many times I click on this page and/or reload the forum page, the box with the check in it remains orange. :?

oh yeah! nice.

wonder why the picture on the board index was colored then. :?

watched ROCKNROLLA and APPLESEED EX MACHINA. I liked ROCKNROLLA. prolly liked it more than LOCK STOCK and SNATCH. nothing special but still a cool movie. APPLESEED was meh. I believe it was a mo-cap CGI movie. the movie itself was fine, but the names really annoyed me. they were blatantly ripping off greek mythology, except it's not really "ripping off" when the movie comes out and basically says this is what we're doing with this name or that name. My problem with it was that the rationale for most of the names was stupid. Like the head of the military is Nike. Victory? why is she Victory? The president is Athena, which kind of makes sense, except she doesn't know what's going on and doesn't fight. the movie is caked with these pointless non-associations with greek myth. anime does that a lot, but...iunno. for such an expensive "one shot" project, I would've paid the extra $50,000 for a writer who can at least perform some oversight on stuff like this.

oh well. stv!

PUSH. it was decent. could've been better. could've been a lot worse. passable comic bookish action (ala HEROES). forgettable (except for the 14-year old in a 2" skirt :?).
