definitely worth a look. this won't make you wanna see it, but it's something of an animated version of The Forbidden Kingdom. as the title suggests, it has a certain..."eastern" aesthetic, which puts it close to anime at times and cookie-cutter zen at other times. ooh. now I miss LIFE. hope it doesn't get canceled.
:(

wow. those last 2 sentences sure take whole new meanings out of context, huh?

CGI CLONE WARS series was new again. watched it. was fine. watched another few anime series:
TWELVE KINGDOMS was great.

BASILISK was a decent story bogged down in retarded anime conventions and terrible leaps in narrative. it's an archetypal story, as you would expect from the genre, but could've been good.

CLAYMORE was a surprisingly good "action anime" (I'm almost embarrassed to know what that means now, but there's a clear difference between this and, e.g., TWELVE KINGDOMS, which is fantasy/epic). anyway, this series is quite good until the end when it becomes another retarded anime where mosters just get bigger, sprout more horns/wings, then have contests to see who can grow more and faster. lame, predictable, and unfortunate given the well-constructed first 3 quarters of the series. Actually, it was just the last 2 or 3 eps that really irked me in the "oh. here we go again." way.

don't have any money, so haven't been to the theater in a few weeks. don't expect to return until march or april either. who knows. february sometimes shows something interesting (action/sci-fi/fantasy).

well jynks rumours are it may not end this season, it all depends what the execs decide, if it does end this year though they have basically said the superman movie reboot will carry on with Tom Welling as he advances past his tv state of clark kent fully into superman so to speak, which should be good, aslong as they don't change their minds and cast dickhead Brandon Routh again

i will be really suprised if he becomes the superman in films... he is like mid 30s or somthing. Almost 40... while that is the perfect age for superman if you were trying to you know, be true to the comics... i will put my money down and say they will get some clean cut early 20 somthing guy.

haven't seen new ep yet. watch the series though, and this is a guilty pleasure, nothing more. the highly soap opera nature of the past what? - 5 years at least - is shiveringly bad. if it wasn't SUPERMAN and if there wasn't so much quality in the early seasons, this thing would have been right in the bin with LOIS & CLARK a LONG time ago (I've seen about 6 eps of L & C - including those I turned off halfway through).

nothing against tom welling as tv superman, but he doesn't have the chops, and I thought brandon routh carried the part well. you can't hold him accountable for bryan singer's annoying reverence for the richard donner movies or the baby jesus shite at the end. kate bosworth is the one who didn't look the part.

i guess, as a film overall it was one mans fanboyish wet dream and nobody elses, the best part about it was probably kevin spacey as Lex.

Also i do agree that the first few years of smallville were very teen soap drama aspect akin to dawsons creek and the ilk, and without the superman aspect i wouldntve watched. But the last few seasons, especially since he moved to Metropolis have really upped the ante to a more deserving level that suits superman a lot more

erm. I clicked the release thread. the screenies were all blocked with the generic image shack thing instead.

edit: yo maxy: either you misunderstood what I wrote, or you typo'd, cuz I was saying the first couple seasons were generally BETTER than the last 4-5. although I admit there have been spikes in the last season (lionel's death arc and parts of the JLA cameos). still though, there are massive amounts of 90210 horseshit going on. the first season or so was a much tighter series. I didn't have a problem with the "meteor freak of the week" stuff that others seemed to.

i think i misread what you put, what i like about the later seasons tho is the inclusion of more powerful enemies, zod, doomsday and so on, rather then just some teen kid gets infected with meteors, though the whole lana thing just pisses me off, couldnt they just kill her instantly and have done with it ffs, i thought they were onto a winner with that when she got braniac'd then she came back god fucking dammnit

saw latest ep. hated it. absolutely hated it. it was just terrible. it was like they mashed half a season into one episode and came up with this 45 minutes of slop. yeah, ok, "Legion" is in it. if that gets you off, then...well...

The "uniforms" were pathetic. the characters were paper thin. the time travel dynamic alone was a giant wtf? but above all else: that electro dude in the blue suit was so hopelessly, mind-numbingly, horribly annoying! lemme get this straight: I have no qualms with the plot. but EVERYTHING about its execution was ridiculously bad. there's more continuity on SPIDER-MAN AND FRIENDS.

downing BSG now. we'll see how that goes.

APPALOOSA. it didn't do it for me. neither as flashy & fun as TOMBSTONE nor as somber and hard-nosed as UNFORGIVEN. there isn't really one narrative. just a loosely connected string of episodes and some fairly large leaps in logic (or progression from one "episode" to the next). this wasn't terrible, but to put in perspective for you, OPEN RANGE was better.
