got the classic doctor who "new beginnings" boxset today so been watching that, contains last 2 Tom Baker stories and first Peter Davison (The Keeper of Traken, Logopolis, & Castrovalva respectively), and i also got the Colin Baker (no relation) doctor who dvd Revelation of The Daleks which was enjoyable and definately was a start to the more not so much for the younger kids stories that caused it to be deemed to scary for children and put on hiatus for a year, resulting in the final c. baker/early mccoy stories to be kid friendly tosh

I have teh entire show from start to finnish on disk from mule and torrents.. but many are released from TV recordings and as the show is so old many eps look crap.

Mabey you hsould release nice fresh new ones?

Most eps are 4 episodes long, so i think there theory is that each dvd is sold asa "movie"... but yea ths is why i nvr got the dvds myself.

Max.. Easy way to rip Audio Commentry for the lamer (as in me) Is i use autoGK, just set al the settings to super low on video and use the autoGK settings to pick teh comentry track... then you have you nice normal encoded rip.. and a low quality video rip with the commentry... I then use VdubMod to extract the audio form that one to disk..... then load the normal high qual rip and go "add track" and load teh 2nd audio..

I end up with a perfect vide owith 2 audio tracks..

Prob a billion beter ways to do this but it works for me.

I really like Colin Bakers doctor... they way he is like really "alien" and sorta of above the puny humans.. cruel almost. The ep in the new season when the doctor lost his memories and went back int time.. kinda touched on these themes, and they still touch on it now and then.. like looking in the time tunnel and stuff.. I woud like to see more of that stuff in dr who.. about how "powerful" he is. Basicaly a "god" of time or whatever.

Ths is the problem with teh DVDs though they are not cronological. I mean how can you have only a few eps of trial of a time lord? As that story arc went for an entire season...(season 23) Or when Tom backer got sent to find those crystals i thnk that went for like 6 shows over a season an dr rejuvination AND his galifray chicky regen as well.

yeah most stories are 4-6 eps long, sometimes in the early days 7-10, not all those i have were bought seperately, some were released as box sets, the first 3 stories (unearthly child to edge of destruction) were released in a boxset called "beginnings" keep of traken, logopolis and castrovalva are chronological and were released in a box new beginnings, silurians, sea devils and warriors of the deep, while not being chronological, all feature the sea devils and silurians (brother races and warriors combines both) as a set called "beneath the surface" and so on.

actually if you look around you can actually find some good deals, i never buy them on release as they are around the £15 mark which is ridiculous, but a lot of ebay shops sell them at £4.99 brand new with £1 or £2 postage so that's how i've got a lot of minemuch better value for money i think.

The lost in time boxset is 3 discs and contains all complete episodes of incomplete hartnell and troughton stories that still exist less then 50% (so tenth plant isn't there as only one episode is missing, though i believe theres another reason for its abscence that cosgrove hall are reanimating the final episode like the invasion) and frankly its a really good set, the extras are existing segments of stories that are in some cases completely missing in their entirity.

Jynks, the ones your thinking of have been released in complete boxset only, trial of a timelord was released last week as a complete boxset, and the key to time (tom baker) was released complete about 2 years agoin a big 12 or something disc boxset, i would say the reason for non chronological release is so theres dvd releases to cater for fans of any doctor, currently the doctors with the most releases though are t baker and davison.

i think i know another way to do commentaries, i was thinking about it last night, and when you rip the vobs it contains all audio tracks for that episode, then when run through dgindex to prepare it for gknot loading it rips all the audio tracks, commentaries included, to ac3 files, then i can just do audio processing only in gknot or something similar to mp3, personally though i don't really care about commentaries most of the time so i probably wont get round to doing them or at least not til ive ripped every ep properly first

and i know what you mean about colin bakers pompousity, in revelation of the daleks (watched yesterday) he tells peri she eats too much and shes fat , when frankly shes nothing but hot

I enjoyed this week's HEROES (10/13). all of the arcs covered in the ep were worth watching and had more in common with each other than usual. of course, I still think the show is weak when it doesn't feature Peter. but especially because this one didn't and I still liked it, I'm thinking it was a quality ep.

meh i have given up on that show. I might grab the entire season when there is nothign else I can think of to watch, grab it in a single torerent pack or somthing. I just can not take it any more.. each ep I watch I skip more and more... it just is so dull and predictable.. witch i do not mind really in some shows.. but it is the way this one presents itself.. I mean if you are goign to pretend you are a deep serious drama then well you better be one!!

In truth I have given up on almost everything... Atlantis... man can nto take it anymore... been watchign stargate for like 13 years or somthing and havn't been able to finnish a single ep for like two seasons... just skip though em.

Dexter... man wish they stopped at season 1....

Lame... I am just stuck with things that are interesting me tv wise... The only show i have liked recently and been able to watch with out skipping heaps is that cop show Life. I remeber once watching it thinking .. I wish this was set in a baldrunner style future :)

So i have been goign back to the basics.. reading books in a dark room with horror movies playing. Just did Cube series and Started on Nightmare.. Hellraiser next.... then on to my Zombie collection .. been hanging out on dead-donkey recently...

Ahh horror.. can't really go wrong with it and there is SO MUCH more than scifi unfortunatly.

see i'm bored of horror, it's all so played out and predictable, modern mainstream horror especially, crappy shit like hostel, and so on are just crap, it's all just trying to over do it for sake of it, i mean i don't mind excessive gore in old horror like evil dead and so on, but they didn't take themselves seriously, whereas modern horror takes itself way too seriously and thinks its the best thing there is, who was the dickhead directed hostel? tarantinos mate or something, all his films are pathetically up their own arse.

I've not seen life but i've heard of it and generally know the gist (guy gets sent to jail for a crime and he sets about figuring out who framed him etc right?) and i agree it would be more fun in a bladerunner-esque future

anyway not really watched much recently

i totaly agree with wat you said about horror. I just like the mood it sets when I read scary books. All the screaming and flashes of blood when I look up from the pages. Still like you siad I am pretty sick of it as well.

Going to try out this new show called Fringe... a mate said it is ok.. sorta like an x-files thign but all about mad science... sounds kinda cool.

Also going to take a bit from your book and start though the Dr who show again.

the major story arc for LIFE is what you describe, max. but a major component of the show is that the detective is a quirky zen-buddhist type. every ep is standalone but sprinkles-in at least one clue to the frame-up (sometimes more of the ep is dedicated to it). without the quirky detective, it's frighteningly like CSI or LAW AND ODOR. you should dl the first season. it was abbreviated because of the writers' strike, but that was actually a good thing because it forced them to concentrate the investigation of the frame-up into fewer eps.

new SMALLVILLE was good. erica durance is the wrong look for lois lane, but the episode managed to transcend the actress.

previews for upcoming eps are selling a Doomsday event. And it sure as looks like they're going to make Doomsday another meteor freak. I don't normally mind all the meteor freak explanations, but I'd like to think of some things as sacrosanct.

Doomsday? Interesting.... I did here on the vein that they are going to have an appearance of Legion.. along with some famous badguy... possib Darksied and Gramy, though this mabey the same "event" that you are speaking about with Doomsday.

It is pretty obvious that Brainic will be back... possibly in the old "good guy is now the bad guy" type thing with Cloe.

I in fact think that Louis is getting better... Now she is in Metropolis and at the planet I think she is a lot closer to Lane as she should be.. her attitude is starting to seam more like the comic and stuff. She was so out of place in smallville.

Also the Supergirl spin off is in full swing.. but she will be back sometime soon on smallville I as well.

What I would like to see in this show is Wonder Woman turning up. They are starting to totally forget about this "oh lets make it more real" thing in smallville... I mean they had Maxima on a few eps back and she was like almost a carbon copy of the comic (but no psyonic powers). Diana Prince version of ww would fit in easy to smallville... not that I am a big WW fan... well yea I am :)

it's frighteningly like CSI or LAW AND ODOR

Yea.. totally... you can only see a guy look at a carpet and see some obscure clue then say something quirky before life will get dull as well. I think wat sets this show apart is the actors are just so good. Along with decent scripts. Still you are right this show may also get old fats unless they keep on track.

doomsday is already in smallville, its the paramedic who kinda fancies chloe, he is actually playing sam/doosmday, he just hasn't brought out the doomsday bit yet and not sure how he will either, unless your right about him being a meteor freak

ugh. I personally have no interest in wonder woman, but I doubt they'd put her in there simply because she's such a big name that they'll want to keep the license separate (e.g., why we don't get the flash but impulse).

anyway, I'm with you on lois working much better this season in general (cuz of the shift to metropolis and the removal of lana).

I didn't realize until just now who tess mercer was. it FINALLY dawned on me when oliver queen affectionately referred to her as "Mercy" and then it hit me like a ton of bricks - the unflinching dedication to Lex.

I get the feeling i'm maybe missing something about tess mercer aswell, but i've not seen yesterdays ep yet so it might be in there the clue is given?

Is the wonder woman film still being made? if so that might also be a reason there is no ww in smallville.

I do know though they are working on a JL movie, but it's been put on hold as they decided they are gonna do movies of the four main characters first, the batman reboot has been done, they are planning a superman franchise reboot (ignoring returns existence) apparently tom welling will star, then they are doing a green lantern movie (Hal Jordans lantern) and another character, i think it's the flash but i may be wrong there.

have no idea who Mecry is.... had to google it... she is like Harley .. invented for the cartoon.. The body gaurd girl... yea that is definatly her.. nice catch.

Last i heard they fired Joss Weadon from the project so there is no writer or director attached. This is a good thing as I read an interview where joss gose on about how he is a fan of the TV show but has never read a single WW comic and has no plans to... as it would interfear with his creative process.

WW would make a truly excelnt movie if they did it right./.. but the chances of that are low. If they do it like batman or daredevil.. as in a girl running around a city beating up bad guys then it will totaly suck... BUT if they go down the comic path and it is all about Gods and Monsters then it will rule.

then it's going to suck because it won't involve gods. just my opinion, but I very very seriously doubt they'd go down that route. Maybe with THOR for the AVENGERS build-up, but I seriously doubt the WONDER WOMAN with gods thing will happen. not necessarily bad. she's not an easy character to adapt, but I agree that the "just a girl" thing is a bad idea. too insulting to too many fanboys. and the fanboys really are integral to these mainstreamed superhero movies. I think the respect for the source material (not religious dedication, but respect) is integral.
