 nice.

don't watch it. don't know anything about it. I have been watching a lot of DiscoveryHD and The Science Channel (lots of stuff on geology and cosmology - so far at least 3 different shows that deal with "super volcanoes"; and that's not easing my anxiety any).

father ted was cool

so watched superbad, it was enjoyable, not exactly amazing cinema but good enough for 1am, actually it reminded me a lot of how we all used to act back when we left school/started college. I think i'm having a mid-mid-life crisis or something :o

I actually liked KNOCKED UP. it's far from perfect, but there's a lot of good stuff in it. anyway, SUPERBAD was more enjoyable at first viewing (haven't seen it since).

thinking about trying APOCALYPTO cuz it had good reviews but...iunno...can't get in the mood to give a shit.

ewkay....

AMERICAN PIE: BAND CAMP and THE NAKED MILE.

BAND CAMP was the best of the 3 stv-quels. both of these were good for stv fodder, but then...that's like saying the shit I took this morning was an excellent example of the dictionary definition of shit. so grain of salt that. ;)

tried to watch SUPERBAD in 1080p, but there were audio and video hiccups. x.264 on a core 2 duo 2.13ghz system with 2g ram and vista ultimate 32 (mpc + ffdshoow). at first I thought the problem was just that I couldn't stream it from the server, but then I put it on a local disk and had the same problems. can't seem to install core avc 1.5 w/o errors. :?

I'll have to dl another 1080p recode to verify that it's the system and not the content. cyberdvd ultra (does my BD playback) couldn't play it either.

two groups. ratings are in relation to each other. all theatricals are better than stvs.

AMERICAN PIE - good
AMERICAN PIE 2 - not good
AMERICAN WEDDING - best

AP: BAND CAMP (stv) - best
AP: NAKED MILE (stv) - good
AP: BETA HOUSE (stv) - not good

:2cents:

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. well...it's the third best indiana jones movie. but you should prolly offset that comment with the fact that I don't think TEMPLE OF DOOM was "indiana jones" really at all. I mean it was, but how shall I put this? remember the ep of FAMILY GUY where lois is a klepto and the family is on the lamb until the wheelchair dude finds them in chinatown. then there's this chase through the sewers that turns into a star wars spoof (surprise surprise) and then the GOONIES show up? well that's how I felt about TEMPLE OF DOOM. it's a fucking GOONIES movie. now hey: love the GOONIES. but that's not INDIANA JONES. so this movie looks and feels like a proper indiana jones movie. and there's a lot of good stuff. there are a couple horrible scenes which I'll just pretend for my sanity are all the fault of george lucas (involving monkeys and ants). This movie is also parasitic of the other three. I'm not sure if the other sequels were so parasitic of their predacessors, but I don't remember them being so, and they more or less added something new to the mythology whereas this one is happy to be parasitic. you prolly knew that would be the case w/o me saying it, but there it is. I still like it more than TEMPLE OF DOOM. All of that being said, THE MUMMY (and ONLY the first mummy movie) was the best Indy movie. I mean, I thought it captured the proper spirit and balance from RAIDERS and CRUSADE without losing itself in the shadow play of parasitic caricature. plus, I wanted to see how that phrase looked in a post. I see it now, and I am satisfied.

4 is parasitic of the other three. (note period)

I'm not sure if the other sequels (i.e., 2 + 3) were so parasitic of their predecessors (i.e., 1 + 2).

got it? ;)

To futher to screw up the above, Temple of Doom is set before Raiders. Temple is set in 1935, Raiders 1936. So Temple is a prequel and the first one.

Anyway I haven't seen the new one yet, I will be on monday, but so far I think indiana jones has gone down in quality each movie. Raiders is the best, Crusade is the worst. All decent, but Temple had more edge, whilst Crusade was too goody-goody populist cinema. Didn't work as well as a film.

I liked the new Indy. It has some really terrible moments. But all i all a goo fun flick. Iy had that King Kong feel of just way to much CG, making some of teh sequences seam so cartoony... that and some terrible bit liks tarzan sequence ARE JUST UNFORGIVABLE.

I also think that it the entire interdenominational aliens angle was terrible and belonged in that gay mummy movie, as Indy was always seamed to me to be at least grounded in more real world stuff, rather than mummy style high fantasy.

Anyway i think it was a very fun film and as long as you are not expecting something pf the calibre of Raiders then you should be happy. The russian chick is awesome... Humor is good.. just all in all captures the carfree "fun" feel of teh originals.

@Dinky
I think Temple of Doom is my fav of the lot.. People getting there hearts ripped out, fed into fire pits... darkest of the 4 movies, and some of the best sequences imo. Radiers os the best film but i enjoy doom the most. By a long way

You just have to pretend that the chick is not in it.

 no way man. no way. RAIDERS is the best in every category. but ok. you said fav. can't argue that.

higher fantasy than the ark of the covenant and an army of magical creatures? wait, that was the ridiculously bad MUMMY 2. :wacky:

(although now that I think about it, despite enjoying INDY 4 and hating MUMMY 2, they both share a similar relationship to the predacessors in terms of being overblown, unoriginal, and cutting corners from script to fx).

I'd agree with jynks, I wouldn't say its my favourite but its way better than crusade and is a better film. It has better writing, it has better characters, it has better scenes, it is darker, it stands out more.

I'd say as far as indy goes:
Raiders > Temple > Crusade > ???? <-- will confirm tomorrow

Each one loses a little.

I can't believe some douche at fh was talking about Doom saying he'd skip it, etc. i installed an icon for that kind of person a while back.... :outsider:

each one also inserts a meaningful new dynamic though. I think you'll find ???? doesn't do that. it just repeats the same stuff from the previous movies to varying effectiveness.

"Look, strong bridge...strong wood!"

I honestly don't expect anything other than a cliched trip down memory lane when I go see it tomorrow.
