see to me a lot of this series while still being enjoyable isn't as good as it has been, or at the very least it had a weak start with the aids and britney episodes

the way lost offers up tiny tidbits of info towards the actual main story is another thing that used to piss me off, thats why i ended up just waiting and watching season 1 and 2 back to back

mario kart wii. I don't get it. it's fun, I guess. but that's like going to a movie tanked and saying it was a good movie. (was a party). so it was "fun," but it's not nearly as addicting or novel as the Wii Sports game that comes with the system. I also thought Tiger Woods golf was a very good game for the Wii, but I haven't bothered to play it enough to know what I'm doing and it's too difficult for n00bs at parties.

watched ARMY OF DARKNESS on HD-DVD. there were specks of dirt on the screen, which was funny cuz for a second, I thought it was my projector lens. but no...it's the camera lens they filmed with (they only appear in one scene). strangely that makes me like the movie more. ok. let's get the hell out of here!

I gotta watch Pitch Black on HD-DVD methinks, i got BSG Series 1 on hd-dvd too so maybe watch that this week.

Anyway, I watched Doomsday and frankly, its just Mad Max 3 done properally. Silly, cheesey, but gorey and entertaining. There's a high speed chase at the end which was fun, but not quite as good as Mad Max 2 which still wins out for the car chase sequence (that's the whole point of that film anyway).

Some silly virus dren, but they spent precious little time on that and just ended up with a silly post-apocalyptic (although it just seemed like scotland is now to be honest) north of the border crap.

Entertaining, but don't bother with the R5... the sound is terrible and if you aren't english/scotish you won't understand what they are saying due to your feeble foreign brains/ears. Wait for a proper R5 with non-cam audio.

No where near as good as Dog Soldiers, and there's corny and pathetic moments, like that f*cking crane shot of people on horses... stop f*cking doing that! It was shit in LOTR and its shit in every film that's ripped it off since, stop it you hollywood arseholes. Worse than that cliched crap was the slow motion arrow in the back scene, WTF was that? Is the runtime running short? Do we care? Were you just extending the screen time of Token Black? No more of that crap please.

Okay though; lots of nice gore, silly scifi cheese... no sex though, i was quite dissapointed by that.

Its a R5, and you are right with 2 out of three... no zombies in it, its a virus but it just wipes people out in a nasty way. I think it could make a really neat film if they focused on that actually.

I wouldn't say its shit, its just not good.

And another mini-review from me:
spudthedestroyer wrote:Here's my short review:

At first, I really thought it was going to be ace... the intro and the uncut news reporter 'resurrection' scene was really great. However, I then went from real enjoyment to annoyance when that shite voice over kicked and the shit editing started. I know its 'purposely' done, but I hated the voice over and as mentioned the acting was really that strong for essentially a first person view. The film however picked up loads as it went along; the killings and the gore was top notch, some of the story was a bit shakey, but I thought it was decently paced. Unfortunately the lousy bits, which are stylistically done let the film down... I did not enjoy the 'film within a film' nature.

I think with all the footage available this could be recut; maybe remove the voice over, drop some of the alternative edits.

This could have and should have been so much better, I mean this could have been really good... the chase scenes in the first person perspective I really enjoyed; the wandering hordes, the gore and any group scene were really top notch. However, once again, the downs were quite significant downs.

Unlike Land, I liked this on the first viewing. However, I've recently bought and watched Land of the Dead on HD-DVD and really appreciated it a lot more, I enjoyed the set pieces and thought it was entertaining. However, I think I prefer Diary to Land... I just think it needs re-editing and hope that Romero allows this to happen.

fine no one comment on my smallville thing lol

sorry. I didn't remember it. :wacky:

meh. it was just continuous clips of people on the show saying they forgot or lost memory and whatnot, right? I thought (1) it was a funny idea/point to make; (2) it stopped being funny and felt a bit hard to keep watching, which led to (3) embarrassment about repetitive banality of this show that I somehow manage to keep watching.

watched latest reaper, was good if totally obvious this week, i enjoy that show

oh in related news, reaper has had a turnaround and despite facing cancellation is now being lined up for at least 3 more seasons. This is most likely due to the fact all rumours regarding smallville are pointing to next season being it's last, meaning the cw want something else to pair with supernatural, and i guess reaper fits the bill perfectly :)

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. good movie. not great. could have been a lot more entertaining if only they'd followed the action a little more. I'm thinking specifically in regard to josh brolin's character. the whole movie follows his story, and then when it reaches its climax, you don't get to see it. it's pretty clear what happened. I'm just saying it would have been more entertaining to see it happen. not showing it doesn't somehow make the film smarter or whatnot. :?

GOLDEN COMPASS on BD. it's not as bad a butchering of the source material as I remembered. it seems pretty obvious on a second viewing that the ending for book 1 was pushed back to the second movie rather than excised in an attempt to make clear good guys and clear bad guys (although that dynamic is still largely in play for the dumbing down of the movie - just not to the complete detriment of the sequels).

latest BSG. well...it was better than last ep. :?

this week had the added benefit of at least furthering the plot (they met-up with the cylons and talked to the hybrid). I have to admit though, at this point I'm just happy to see any kind of movement whatsoever.

finally got round to watching Superman: Doomsday.... it was ok if a little short and apart from the battle with doomsday and the superman clone it was very scarce on the action

also the voice acting really was shit, especially anne heche as lois, her voice was all over the place.

That's something else that annoys me about DC animated stuff, the voice actors are so inconsistent, the voice actors in the justice league cartoon fit perfectly, but the actors they used in doomsday and new frontiers were terrible, just to get some "big" names, and by big i mean relatively well known

Also i think it loses continuity by using different voice actors all the time.

The only dc animateds to keep slightly true voice wise is batman in JL toonwho also does batman in gotham knights and voices bruce wayne in batman beyond (in the future)

SMALLVILE finale. it was trash. and the usual "cliffhanger" ending that is really a two-part story split over two eps (but of course you only see one for the finale).
