Timeslip was a 1970s British children's science-fiction television series about the adventures of two children, Simon Randall and Liz Skinner, who had the ability to travel through a 'time barrier' that led to different historical periods and alternate pasts and futures. Throughout all of these, Commander Traynor (played by Denis Quilley) appears in various guises at different ages. 26 episodes were made by ATV for ITV, covering a series of linked adventures:

The Wrong End of Time
The Time of the Ice Box
The Year of the Burn-Up
The Day of the Clone

The script editor for Timeslip was Ruth Boswell, who worked on a number of series at the time including The Tomorrow People. Scriptwriters: Bruce Stewart, and Victor Pemberton.

Because of a technicians' strike, many episodes toward the end of the series were made in black and white. In any case, the original masters of the series were wiped in the late 1970s, with the exception of episode 12. The only surviving copies of the other episodes are black and white telerecordings.

The series was released in this form on a 4-disc DVD set in July 2004.

While in previous generations, video encoded with DivX was analogous to video formats such as MPEG-2, in its 6.0 generation, the new DivX Media Format is analogous to media container formats such as Apple's QuickTime. Much in the way that media formats such as DVD specify MPEG-2 video as a part of their specification, the DivX Media Format specifies MPEG-4-compatible video as a part of its specification. However, despite the use of the ".divx" extension, this format is simply an AVI file renamed.
