i've only just got round to seeing the new ep of smallville from last week, it was majorly shit, it was so obvious that clark was evil from the start, and generally a fecking shit episode

that's the same reason i stopped watching 4400 dink, it got really uber shit during s3

Talking of Uber shit i watched the santa clause 3: the escape clause last night, i mean i should've known it would be dreadful as it had martin short in it, but it was utterly dreadful, i cant describe just how bad it was, it was just 90 minutes of meaningless drivel.
I know christmas films are usually just fluff anyway but this was.... christ.... shit.
jack frost takes over the north pole, santas in laws come to visit as does his neice, ex wife and her husband who are acting like children, and his neice stops jack by giving him a hug, which apparently warms him up so jack frost is destroyed and changed into some gay ass looking game show host or something i dno

UTTER SHIT

 for a christmas movie, I thought it looked kind of interesting too. (martin short as a neurotic jack frost with an inferiority complex who takes over christmas). pity.

I can't believe it. we all agree on something: 4400 s3. my GAWD. that must be like...like november 12, 1955 in Back to the Future or something. scary.

like 1955, obviously 4400 season 3 has some special significance in the time lines

I thought series 2 of dexter was way better than the first one. The wrap up was fast because the writers walked out, can understand way it wasn't as good as it should have been. All that said, way better than s1 i thought :) Certainly not as tacky anyway.

it was completed well before the WGA strike. HBO and Showtime keep to their own schedules and usually do half the eps of broadcast series (~12). I thought the whole lyla thing got really</i> soapy, and the resolution with dokes and dexter was hugely anticlimactic. but the voiceover shite in the last 5 minutes was just poor - "lazy." if you will. there was plenty of time to work that in properly into the series if they wanted to. and as it was not foreshortened due to the WGA strike, I can't give them the benefit of the doubt. iunno. I thought s2 was all over the place, unfocused by comparison with s1.

You did Max ;) I watched Xmas special of "Not Going Out" last night and he was funny there, too. I think casting Miranda Hart for the cleaning lady was the best that happened to the show... it adds a whole new dimension to Lee's clumsiness in chatting up Lucy LOL

finally got to see I am Legend. people on FH have already said all there is to say about it. here's the abbreviated version: first half of the movie is good, bordering on brilliant, but certainly very good (except for the cgi "lurkers"). second half is standard hollywood action and ending and complete slap in the face to the themes and ending of the novel - in other words, the movie is predicably safe and mainstream (not that the novel isn't also "mainstream," but I think you get the gist?).

the first attempted adaptation is available on dvdrhere. 8) I recommend the torrent if you can get it. spreading much faster.

I also saw I am Legend and have a very similar opinion, I hated the ending... it was just tacky and self-indulgent. I was not impressed at all with that ending and think it ruins the movie quite badly. The first half is pretty okay, but I'm not sure about 'brilliant'. Some good character development in there and its entertaining, but the ending pissed me off.

Stick with I, am Robot

I also watched Shoot 'Em Up which is a pretty dumb movie. It keeps your interest and its clearly meant to be funny, it just doesn't do a very good job at being funny. Lots of violence and computer game fun, but not something worth buying I didn't think.

yeah. it's not brilliant; that's a bit much. I thought the movie had that potential though. the only thing in the first half of the movie that might have messed up my brilliant vibe was the cgi of the "night stalkers" or whatever. so it was "just" good, but I felt like the thing could have been a tour de force if it kept on track. but obviously went in another direction.

Yikes! It looks like most of the movies I had planned to watch through the holidays are bordering the Crapland. I was holding to a few of the titles for my usual Xmas movie marathon, like "The Invasion", "3:10 to Yuma", "Shoot 'em Up", "I am Legend", "The Kingdom" and "Eastern Promises" but all reviews I read lately of them (except for the last one) are pissing all over them. Hope it's not gonna be '05 all over again when I held my breath for Serenity for so long after I was more than pleased with the series only to realise the movie I thought of the least ("Revenge of the Sith") proved to be one of the better ones and Serenity managing not even close to second before last. And "Star Wars" was utter shit IMO so my list was obviously pretentious crap (completely on my part tho). I might just change my mind altogether and go with HR releases of some of my favourites, like "Dark City", "Alien", "Aliens", "Blade Runner" (if it manages to get here in time, but I doubt it), "The Fountain",... maybe even "The Chronicles of Riddick" (at least I know it's crap and IMO very entertaining crap at that) :o

Oh, before I forget... but of course...

I do wish you all a merry Christmas!!! And happy birthday :jesus:

Going to watch The Invasion tonight, downloaded the DVDr from news. I still have 310 to yuma waiting, but just haven't felt like it so far.

I quite like The Chronicles of Riddick; its unique, troubled and although its pomp and silliness gets the best of it in places, its something I'd just never seen before and frankly, I'm glad and surprised it was made.

'K I was exaggerating with Chronicles being "crap", true. It is thoroughly enjoyable movie but only the DC, the theatrical is a complete mess and makes half the sense of DC. I was surprised too but for a completely different reasons as I have first watched the theatrical release and couldn't believe my eyes how much the movie has changed with DC release quality-wise. It is also visually appealing on more than just one aspect of it (not only pause & zoom on the boobs like "Pitch Black") and has some memorable scenes I look forward to watching in high-res. It still has a few of the "yeah, right"/"matrix like" lame-ish moments like some fighting scenes and running away from the rising sun and alike... but that was to be expected. BTW, there's a good quality rip (repack) of "The Invasion" to be had somewhere on B-G forum if you're interested. But, I guess, since you pulled down the whole DVD-R you could make yourself a nice backup copy of it on your own (I know I would). ;)

I like Chronicles too. but I have no illusions about it. it's a guilty pleasure. cuz the movie is crap.

but there are some badass scenes like a sci-fi version of conan: "I'm not with them. But I'll take a piece of him." "A piece, you shall have."

and I really love that last shot "I'm all alone." after kiera/jack dies.

iunno about unique though. it's mostly a spin on the borg theme from star trek scripted/cultivated by someone like george lucas (post 1980s).

or maybe I just can't take "necromongers" seriously.

maxpayne2409, its based on the same book as omega man... its going to be exactly the same ;)

@Invasion, tis a retail DVD5... its fine :)

The movie however, is rather crap in the end. Once again, its ending is friggin awful, so wasteful and completely hollywood. Its much worse than I am legend's ending which, let's be frank, is utter shite too.

I watched Lemony Snicket's which was on tv; one of the best family movies of recent years I can recall. I think i've said that before but incase not, it is :)

I picked-up a copy of the His Dark Materials trilogy yesterday, and while I was looking for it, I stumbled upon a complete set of Lemony Snicket's SoUE books. Damn! It was pretty big. There are quite a few of them. It looked like at least 10. And relatively thick for kids' books (but smallish pages). also bought a shel silverstein book for the rug rat.

anywho...watched Resident Evil: Extinction last night. Prolly cuz I'm on the I am Legend kick still. Is it just me, or did the beasties in this movie franchise go from fast-moving badies (ala dawn of dead remake) to slow ass zombies that would lose a race to romero's zombies? anyway, it was watchable - and fairly quick if derivative and pointless. there was this one infected dude who looked AMAZINGLY similar to the humans who've been reanimated by the Flood on Halo, and for the longest time, I sat there wonder which copycat franchise stole this from the other?

LOL knowing how Brit chicks are like I would consider myself extremely lucky even making it through the mistletoe decorated doorway in one piece. But that's love for ya... gotta suffer, gotta suffer :D I've decided to go with the HR releases of my oldies goldies instead of those movies I was considering to watch first. I'll only watch a single movie off the list today (prolly Alien) and then I'll go out for a while... goofing around with friends drinking excessively some overly-sweet Xmas liquors that I never remember what they're called (I wonder why :wacky:) and then kissing innocent passerby's girlfriends or whatever... we'll think of something fun like we always do :D I'll play myself the other movies tomorrow when everyone will be staying in suffering the hangovers anyway ;)
