Is "The Fountainhead" a dystopian story ?..I did'nt like the movie but the book is very well written...

The Fountainhead? I've read the book, and seen the film, and while Ayn Rand has written dystopian SF, I can't see that this qualifies. - Headstrong architect gets his innovative ideas shot down by lesser minds, but would rather be crushed than compromise on his ideals. - Sure you're not thinking of something else?

Maybe I was thinking of the game Bioshock which is based on her visions...

Well, Brave New World and 1984 are classics everyone are (or should be) familiar with. Other classics I'd recommend include 'We' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_%28novel%29 and Kallocain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kallocain

What all of these have in common is a society which has complete control of it's citizens. It has perfected surveillance (in 'We' all houses are transparent!), mind control (in 'Brave New World' babies are conditioned to fear nature, and feel fulfillment in consumption), and education (in '1984' language is being reduced in order to remove words that enable thoughts of sedition, and in 'Fahrenheit 451' almost no-one can read any more - the opening credits of the movie are spoken to underline this.)

In 'The Fountainhead' the protagonist is free to do as he pleases, his 'oppression' is artistic, and due to lack of vision (or presence of animosity) in other inividuals, not as part of a system.

Rand's 'Anthem' however, is all the way dystopian... Don't know if you've read that one.

Interesting point about Bioshock... Hadn't heard about the Rand connection. "Set in an alternative history 1960" - I've been interested in starting a thread on alternative history films, don't know if there are enough though (discounting time travel films like 'A Sound of Thunder' and the likes.)

The previously posted version is a VHS rip. This is a higher-res digital rip. The audio is wooly, but it's probably as nice a quality as you're going to get until (if ever) there's an official release.

This, by the way, has the US ending - which most closely follows the book.
