jms was indeed involved with jeremiah, although i think only the first season, which explains why that was a great season and season 2 was average, although when it started interviews with jms said he had written it as a 3 season arc, even tho it was cancelled after 15 eps of season 2

oh also watched Alan Carr: Tooth Fairy (live dvd) and it was fucking shit, there were 1 or 2 giggle moments but nothing close to a hearty laugh, and generally it was total shit. The good carr is Jimmy (tho no relation)

Yeah Jimmy is the best of Carrs that I've seen. Watched his latest DVD "Comedian" last night and it was pretty damn good. Not the best I've seen of his work but plenty of laugh out laud and gag moments. Tho I didn't know he does so much sex related and other adult oriented jokes. It must have been a hell on Earth for those parents that took their youngsters along and there were many of those in the crowd. That part when he asks the male portion of the crowd to raise hands if they never tried to fellate themselves was hilarious

Yeah jimmy carr does a lot more adult and sex oriented jokes in comedian then in his other 2 as far as i recall, the fellating bit was hilarious, as was the bit when he asks the 4 kids with their dad sat next to them do they wank and how many times a day, and they get really embarrassed and their dad is just sat there pissing himself with laughter

My favourite joke from that show

If god really hated gays he would do what he has done in the past and send downa deadly plague to wipe them all out....." then the audience twig after a few seconds he means aids

I went to Day of the Dead at leeds film festival yesterday (well saturday now), so here's my opinions on the movies they showed (short and to the point I hope):

· Angel - french short; A puppeteer because fascinated with a "fallen angel" at a travelling carnival. He decides to rescue her, and put her talents to use.


· WAZ - ultimately disappointing thriller, worked its budget well. Held up on its own for a portion of the film until its twists ran away with any potential impact of the movie. Never showed aspirations of providing anything new, and ultimately not something I'd go out of your way to see. Scores highly on imdb mind.

· Espectro - better, low budget horror that borrows heavily from asain horror archetypes, too heavily and ultimately does not quite deliver because of this. It is however a bit new in some areas of plot so I'll give it credit for that. Its still an enjoyable movie and is a lot more traditional in its scares, even if you've seen it all before. I'm pretty sure i heard nicole kidman was set to star in the remake... don't think a remake is needed.

· Machine - brilliant silent short, visually appealing, technically well shot, great acting and funny when it wants to be. Big budget for a short, but money well spent!



· Devils chair - funny, witty, fast paced, modern and gorey... but missing that special something to make it a classic. An appearance from the brilliant Matt Berry (Sanchez marenghi fans!) and a strong lead sprouting out some snappy lines make it a great film marathon movie. The transition into the absurd is crafted and the jump to reality is sudden and effective. Gorey movie. I'd recommend this one, but it won't be to everyone's taste and if your not into modern brutality on screen, skip it.

· exte - hair extensions. The whacky asains do it again. Its funny, and has that brilliant asain slapstick that I find appealing myself. Its a silly movie, and its way over the top but it easily kept my interest and we are now 4 films into a film festival.

· Rabbit trouble - high budget and effective short. Moral, don't trust rabbits.


· The Orphanage - clearly and rightfully billed as the main event. The movie is brilliantly made, creepy and effective. Very similar to Pan's Labyrinth (and made by some of the same people at the same time) but much creepier and unnerving to the senses. Refreshing and really enjoyable. it might even be moving for those of you that don't model your life after chuck norris. The creepiness is made even more so by the poster child, so to speak. Highly recommended.

Wow, great post I'll most def try to find the last three you reviewed. Tho we'll have a similar fest in our city short so fingers crossed they'll show some of those. I've thoroughly neglected shorts so far as my collection only includes a handful of them (short movies not panties btw ) but that must change. I do prefer seeing them in fests with all the side shows and atmosphere to match but since now we all have living rooms that are like small tech cathedrals playing them throughout the day as a background filler should create far more interesting atmos than the usual MTVs IMO

first three eps of weeds s3. it's actually a bit depressing at this point. it's always been cynical, and I'm captain cynical - so I actually like that in general, I guess. so I mean to say here that it's even depressing me at this point. it's still funny. it's just...it's like watching closer (movie from a couple years ago) where people just keep sinking deeper and deeper into a world of pain and (self)destruction - except closer took itself seriously and played out like a cheap caricature of what's going on in weeds, which is really great but fuckall depressing.

the show's actually quite funny, and I suppose I'm looking for that magically sublime experience that gives meaning to the universe through some mystical communion with art. and "something that depresses me" feels closer to that realization than dodging a wrench. translation: the depressing stuff is more real. although to be fair, I did say bits of it had gotten a bit too much for me. :p

horror doesn't scare me because frankly it's all tame as whipped cream, that's why i don't really watch horror anymore coz it bores the crap out of me with its ultra soft core crap, you see worse on the news, so i tend to stick to better things like scifi and such.

While I agree with that to a certain degree I don't think content with a depressive feel to it should necessarily be depressive to the viewer or add to his/hers already somewhat depressed state. It might lure you deeper into it, true, but it could also give you a chance to inspect the state you're in from a distance/new perspective. So IMO it's up to the viewer which way it'll turn. Too depressed and you won't feel the need to pull yourself out of the septic sink and just enjoy you're not the only one in it. Or somewhat less depressed and you might find a new boost for getting out. Either way, it's more positive than what commercials feed us with where everyone is so happy it's depressing

witchblade anime series vol. 2. for anime, it's not bad. but if wasn't witchblade (comic I used to read), there's noway in hell I'd be sticking with this stuff. even the goddamn theme song makes no sense. and it's half english half japanese.

weeds s3 finale.

high plains drifter. I hadn't realized it before, but I'd seen this movie remade in the 80s with charlie sheen. I think it was called wraith? something with car chasing punks (pre-fast and furious). also, I didn't realize eastwood directed so many of his westerns. high plains, pale rider. will see about the others. in any case, I've decided that I much prefer unforgiven to all of them. there's some nice imagery in the older stuff. the cigar thing (ripped off the leone stuff anyway) is particularly cool. but...iunno...unforgiven is a lot deeper, and deeper in the areas I value more, I guess.

edit: I also think unforgiven kicks the living shit outta mystic river and million dollar baby (even though both were good movies). still haven't seen the ww2 movies yet. flags just looks too much like a US appolgist's manifesto, and iwo jima...well...I can't get excited about a black 'n' white subtitled "gem." mind you, I actually saw the patriot in theaters. can't seem to find the right mood for the eastwood movies though.

Flags and Iwo are nothing like that. Flags is quite the opposite to being "US apologist's manifesto" as you put it as it actually shows how every single "photo opportunity" was taken out of context and used like that for propaganda purposes and Iwo... well, it's not in B&W

Watched "Mr. Brooks" and it wasn't anything spectacular like some reviews would suggest. Last two serial killer thrillers I watched ("Zodiac" and "Summer Of Sam") were both way above it. I also watched "Nick Of Time" cuz I forgot what it was all about. Nothing special either
