yea.. babs also said that the fire is in fact the small amount of atmosphere burnning up during the explosion... so that is why there is flame is space.

Sun has no atmosphere per se nor oxygen yet it still produces "flames". :P What "flames" are is either a by-product of photon particles or ionization of dormant (non-reactive) particles when two chemicals/elements react or a single chemical/element reaches different "aggregation state" (be it either violent reaction or "explosions" or a steady "burn" through some sort of "ignition"/"excitation", like gamma/beta/... radiation, nuclear fusion, particle friction,... magnetic fields even)... yada, yada,... (I made this all up BTW ) So "light" or "flames" aren't even close to being "rare" in space. But yeah, B5 used "proper" physical models of space and SGA doesn't. Does that make it any worse is another question? (It does in my eyes )

Like I said I made that all up  What? I was bored :P Sun has an "atmosphere", true, though it's nothing one could breath for long thus that "per se" ("so to speak" :?) that I think you read more like "nothing to speak of" 0.77 % Oxygen is not enough to produce "fire" or "flames" as we're used to in true breathable atmosphere. Light and heat and all that we normally associate with "burning" are produced in a whole different manner on (or rather in :?) the Sun. And that was my point... you don't need "rapid oxidization" in "breathable atmosphere" (a.k.a. "fire") to produce (visible) light as a side effect ;)

the sun doesn't have atmosphere, and what you interpret as fire is not exactly fire.. fire does need oxygen, but the sun however is not a chemical combustion in air, it is a nuclear reaction, the nuclear reaction itself is combining atoms and thus creating new atoms etc. the sun's burning is produced by a hydrogen burning process which creates helium which is then seen as light & felt as heat.

think of a hydrogen bomb.

don't they teach that in physics anymore? :o

The sun dose have an atmosphere... it has a crust and a core and a all that stuff. Atmosphere dose not mean breathable

it's semantics ;)

the sun has a photosphere, chromosphere & corona.

i s'pose you could class those as an atmosphere in very basic sense.

but in a real sense, an atmosphere is what surrounds a planet and keeps the gases close to the planet by means of gravitational fields. in the sun this differs because the gases and stuff are released into space.

Does anyone have links to Atlantis S0408, or has Atlantis series been held over. Sorry to ask, cause I don't live in US, so don't have much news on US TV
