This two-hour movie was a surprise hit in theaters in the spring of 1979, then spent the summer in heavy rotation on pay-cable channels before airing on NBC in the fall to kick off the TV series.

I have the VHS of this. Print says 1981 on the case, 1984 on the video. I also have this as SVCDs w/ TV opening.

PS - You can still see the original main title sequence and theme song (with lyrics) on VHS from Universal Home Video. The original opening title sequence that played in theaters was considered too racy by 1979 standards to play on TV, so a new opening was shot for NBC.

Yes, my video does have the supposed RACEY beginning. If you wanna see Princess Ardala [Pamela Hensley] (in more clothing than usual) or Colonel Wilma Deering [Erin Gray], and 2-4 other chicks in funky zip-up white outfits & an odd swimsuit, than I'll cap this opening when I can.

Did you even read my post? The 1st 2 eps of the Series, IS the movie. Just has the NBC series opening.
