I think the main problem is not that the story is all over the place but that there's no real anchor character like first Mohinder and then Sylar were in the first season. We now have what five or six (?) separate threads and they barely touch each other. And it's been so for the most part of the second season with each ep not only failing to put things back together but even introducing completely new threads... I think they'll soon realise they are just stinking the place trying to shit through an eye of a needle

i still say it would be better fi they did the episodes where one episode covers part of a story for the entire episode, and then the week later a different storyline is covered, course then you'd get people whinging they've forgotten what happened back in the first storyline

Just watched latest Journeyman, it was ok but was a non arc episode, didn't further the "why he and his ex fiance time travel" story

I guess I agree with the anchor character thing. particularly hiro in feudal japan. you could have EVERYTHING that happened in japan occur before a single shot from the rest of s2. then you could even follow things from when hiro returns (and that, btw, is an actual excuse for a huge gap in the narrative). I strongly feel that the only (lame) reason for all the horse-shit is to hide the identity of monroe (which is pretty heavy-handed with the mark on the sword anyway). it just seems so obvious all along that what's going on with hiro and parkman's father is so much more important than some of the pointless nonsense like mica's copycat cousin or the wonder twins or even the mysterious disappearance of sylar's powers and especially claire.

that would work better for me. or really just two stories going back and forth during one 45 minute ep would be nice. anymore than that, and I think the arcs have to coincide somewhere in the ep itself.

because I said so. chick flick with diane keaton, mandy moore, the older gilmore girl, and a few other people. you know exactly everything that's going to happen within the first 10 minutes of the movie. not terrible. definitely not good either. unoffensive shite? iunno. whatever. it was better than a walk in the clouds.

bionic woman and life. both decent. neither noteworthy.

whoops! I meant better than a walk to remember. I guess walk in the clouds was a keanu & sandra bullock thing? I meant that first mandy moore movie. aka: chick flick for the young and christian.

heroes. the ep was fine. it was a ridiculous plot device, but I've been bitching about that for a while. what really bugged me about the ep (ok, 2 things bugged me) was that (1) access to the flashback follows peter, but the flashbacks also include D. L., Mica, Nikki, and the wonder twins form the Dominican. why does that bother me? peter had nothing to do with those other events. why the fuck were they ever "hidden" from us in the first place? Even if you argue that we don't remember because peter doesn't remember, that doesn't go one iota in explaining why we were ignorant of the other two arcs for a month+ of eps.

(2) everything in this ep could've been told chronologically right after hiro's little adventure and then stopped with peter in the box so that the other arcs could catch up, then continuing with the irish stuff and the future trip and then finally reuniting with adam again. it doesn't damage the narrative suspense. sure, it eliminates a little of adam's mystery, but that mystery was also an obvious crutch to the narrative anyway.

finished disc1 of robot chicken, s2. I was disappointed to realize that I'd already seen many of these eps. I'm not sure how/where though. I've never watched an entire ep on tv except for the SW special. :? anyway, it was funny so no complaints.

That's typical experience described by many that were abducted by Zelda fans. Some even reported coughing out DVB tuners that were implanted in their nasal cavity :wacky:

Watched quite a lot of stuff lately...

"Man From Earth" - I thought it was interesting. It's all about a story that's being told and there's no action or anything like that. There's even no need to watch it for the better part of it and just listening to it would do just as well.

"PotC:At Worlds End" - Iunno. It has plenty of nice action shots and visual effects going for it but no good story to excuse that. It's way too long for that story and I constantly had an impression they knew that and though let's shoot really long action sequences and hope ppl won't notice that. It's still better than the second instalment but that was utter crap anyway so comparing it with that should give you plenty of warning this one isn't far ahead. BTW, if you liked those shots of Sparrow going all "multiplex" I suggest you get a hold of a copy of "Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead" and "Being Human" ;)

"Transformers" - Not much to say here. It's adolescent crap that's done right. Don't get me wrong - it's a holly crap of a movie but at least it has a smell to match.

"Simpsons - The Movie" - They obviously ran out of ideas and decided to borrow some from "South Park" and some other cartoons and movies. It is watchable and some parts are funny but... well f0ck it, it's Simpsons :P

"Bottom: Live 2003 Weapons Grade Y-Fronts Tour" and "Bottom: Live 2001 An Arse Oddity" - Never watched those two before and I'll have to watch them again soon cuz I missed half of it cuz of the excessive laughter. I actually gasped for air on more than one occasion. I thought "2001" was better but that's my opinion... anyway, a must see if you haven't already ;)

Watched all my usual TV suspects: "Weeds", "The Big Bang Theory", "Journeyman", "Heroes", "My Name Is Earl"... they were all good eps this week IMO :D As for games, I'm revisiting some of the old strategies like "Space Rangers 2" that's one of my fav coffee time games BTW, "Airline Tycoon Evolution" that can be quite challenging at times once you set it up so it won't crash every two minutes and I also classify that as a coffee/tea time game, and have a few other old and similar titles in mind for the weekend to come. I think I'll pass on FPSs for the time being as am still all shook up cuz of HL2:EP2 I played last. I must be getting too old for FPSs it seems :(

yeah...well...you know the apocalypse is nigh when I start playing them (although my definition of FPS is apparently quite loose :wacky:). started halo 3 the other night. was fine. played a mission here. a mission there. no problem. then I picked it up yesterday at around 4pm and the next thing I know, it's 11:30pm. :(

anyway, I'm in a <s>zerg</s> flood ship now, and I can't see a goddamn thing. keep running into walls and shit. :? that was enough to cause me to lose interest for the night.

meh. decent story. mass appeal. kinda like SW (ANH) or BSG (original). and as a student recently pointed out, it smacks of Starcraft. only other game like that I play is CoD (consoler of course). don't have the patience for anything else. dicked around with battlefront2 on the pc for a bit. just can't adjust to moving with keys and strafing is really weird. bleah. I'm definitely an RTS guy.

fps on consoles are the most fundamentally flawed thing ever, ok not as flawed as rts on console, but the whole sticks for movement what? nah, don't think so. Mouse accuracy anyday please.

CoD 4 on pc, yes that's how it is thanks

Anyway just watched Ricky Gervais Live 3 - Fame (myk i'll do you a list of british comedians shows to download too if you want). It was funny, especially the whole bit about the ad campaign that there was "how much does an illegal taxi ride cost? just ask a rape victim"... Don't, god, talk about bad advice to follow, "how much to hownslow?" man, right upsets them, what sort of civilisation has to remind themselves not to rape? "just off out to do some raping mum".....
Anyway really funny

You mispelt: PR and Marketing. its a classic case of game starvation and a complete overcompensation of the only semi-playable launch title as being good. Only worth playing online, and that sucks because its on a console and its like running through treacle.

Halo is pretty shite I thought, even for a console fps. :? I'd take HL story over halo any day, or a plethora of others that aren't so cornball.

You want to play through HL2 and the two episodes, Crysis, Portal (masterpiece! You should love that one, its scifi, its a puzzle game, its a 'fps', its funny... brilliant!), Bioshock, COD4 (i've not played it yet, but it looks good) and then come back to mediocrity like halo 3. Hope you didn't pay for it anyway ;)

I'm not a fan of the concept of scifi shooters, the more lead propelled, down to earth they are the more i like them. I hated metroid, but then i've always hated that kind of crap. Not played the one on the wii yet, but its kind of a zero on the hornometer

(although my definition of FPS is apparently quite loose :wacky:)

ps. completed crysis. Its great, but i thought the ending was terrible and, well missing. I didn't like the scifi stuff, the whole going through the mountain bit and the ice. I hated the flying parts too, and thought the tank bit wasn't too cracking either.

Beginning is absolutely superb though, if only they made a predator game... that would have been so much better!

 that terribleness looks a lot like burnout 1

I have to agree with scifi fps games, i'm not a big fan either i prefer the more earthy stuff with proper weapons that you know what they do, not some stupid futuristic/space weapons that do a million and one things that nothing could ever conceivably do. Which some of my friends really can't understand and they shout at me "but you love scifi, how can you hate scifi fps"... and by scifi fps they do of course refer to halo, as they are mostly 360 halo zealots

i still haven't got round to downloading crysis yet, mainly because it would involve burning to make space, and i just really can't be bothered until my hdd gets to 100meg free (so in about 2 minutes then)

You know what i'd love? a game based on dawn of the dead (original), pref 3rd person shooter style, not made to look, play and generally be a steaming pile like they made land of the dead: road to kiddy fiddlers green

I'm beginning to think my ps3 was the worst spur of the moment purchase ever, i think i've used it about 4 times since i got it a month ago, partly due to the fact theres about 5 games for it all mostly shit.

I mainly bought it for resident evil 5/gta 4/mgs 4 that were all meant to come out soon... and then they got pushed back to march/april fuckers!. I know about 6 other people with ps3's (they were also on a massive money off offer at work due to staff discount) and they keep telling me to get fifa 08 and that pro evo stuff, and i keep telling them to go drink battery acid

LOL so it is ;)

@Spud: Do you think Dinky takes FPS for any game that hits playable "Frames Per Second" on his rig? :P

maxpayne2409 wrote:(myk i'll do you a list of british comedians shows to download too if you want)

That'd be most excellent, thanks :D I was thinking of asking you that only I haven't even finished with that britcom list so I'm in no hurry ATM. I also didn't want to bother you before I did some research on my own (for which I also haven't found any spare time yet :() Anyway, I'd appreciate a few pointers ;) On the britcom front tho I'm currently downloading "Believe Nothing" and "Filthy Rich & Catflap". Iunno if they are any good but I do remember a few scenes of the latter were in "Bottom: Mindless Violence" (or whatever it was called :?).

Non-related but more on this thread's topic, I've also watched "The Mothman Prophecies". It is really good movie IMO and I don't know why in hell I didn't watch it before. OK, it's prolly cuz it has Gere in it and I thought it must be some kind of sentimental crap. I prolly wouldn't even watch it like ever if it wasn't for Spud adding it to some best of list somewhere in here, so - thanks Spud ;)

EDIT: FTM does anyone here need an invitation for The Box? I've recently been promoted to power user there and have a few of those to give away. For those not in the know it's a torrent site with British only content (TV & radio content mainly). It's better than say UKNova IMO. Anyway, PM me your email if you need it ;)
