FTM: "The Big Bang Theory" is great fun. It's not anything significant for the critics or for whomever that also watches TV shows just so they won't enjoy them but it's better at how a glimpse into life of nerds can be funny than say "The IT Crowd" IMO. What's worrying tho is that I get all the science/tech related jokes That, and also that I seem to notice more what that blond chick is wearing than how her bottom looks in it I'd say that I've run out of my menstrual cycles if I didn't know better (Must be that's just that influenza I've caught temporarily messing with my wiring )

EDIT: Watching ep 3 of "Journeyman" and just remembered who that actor playing Alan Pratt (the lawyer with gambling problems) is... it's John Billingsley that was that annoying dr. Phlox in "Enterprise". He still has that same annoying speech emphasizing every other word LOL

that would be "political" in the very narrow sense that you're using (government philosophy?). I think saying "I hold no political views or no political bent" (as you did earlier) is more ambiguous and less "political" in the gov. structure & practice sort of way that people normally use it.

Again- no. I think it's about time we have to come to terms that there are fundamental differences in how we use certain words of Latin/Greek origin. You see, when I say "political" I actually think of its originally intended meaning. I don't even have to look it up in a dictionary to know it forms out of "polis" and that that's ancient Greek for "city" or "a city state". Since we don't have "city states" per se anymore (I wouldn't count Vatican or Monaco as examples) that'd than be most closely related to our plain ordinarily boring "states" or "countries". That said, "political" to me means "to have something to do with a state/country". Not necessarily government or any state run institutions. Just "to have something (anything) to do with a state/country". Don't dissect my choosing of the words to describe this... I think you're intelligent enough to get my meaning. OK, moving to "anarchy"... it has a prefix "an-" meaning "without" (like anaerobic = without oxygen, etc) not "against" like most people tend to misinterpret (and think anarchists are the same bunch of ppl as "Luddites" only expanding "rage against the machine" to everything that moves as well)... and "archos" that means "to rule" or "ruler"/"master" (something along those lines)... So when I say "anarchist" I mean "a person that does not recognize a ruling of one person over the other". Now, if that "anarchist" person actually had a "political" opinion (how he/she thinks the state should be run or by whom...), that'd be a paradox, wouldn't it? At least in a way that I understand those two words. To paraphrase it - there's absolutely nothing "state like" in "stateless".

That's exactly why I find all this amusing I'm actually living in a city that was part of one of the oldest democratic states in the world after ancient Greece. I'm talking 7th century here! And US constitution inclues two amandments that were directly translated from constitution of my forefathers. Yet, somehow, every time I speak to an American, he/she feels like having an upper hand in that regard. They have barely crawled out of their cradles and still shit in their diapers from where I stand. Think they'll ever snap out of it?

no. I will argue it because it's not correct. I understand how you're using the term political (originally meant "having to do with the common wheel" btw). and I understand the etymology of anarchy quite well. I think you fail to acknowledge that the position that espouses "without rule" IS a political position. democracy = rule by the demes. oligarchy = rule by the few. monarchy = rule by one. anarchy = rule by none. they all express political positions. you don't think so? fine. whatever. not my problem.

and taking pot shots at me for being american (although exactly when have I ever been "pro-american" here to begin with? my whole point is that 300 IS american propaganda) doesn't change this fact. you frame your argument as if my "being american" has one iota of legitimacy in my argument. no. I'm a classicist. that's what my degrees are in. that's what I study. I don't know EVERYTHING about ancient Greece, but I'm quite confident that I know a hell of a lot more than zack snyder or frank miller. so keep deferring the point as if my being american and you being "from the second oldest democratic city in the world" have any bearing on the issue at hand.

was there any big hubub over the NFL football game at Wembley yesterday? you shoulda heard this one tv analyst "go global. they want it!" and all I could think was..."I know about 5 english blokes via message boards, and they very definitely don't like american football." then I got to class today, and I'm complaining about having the NFL schedule screwed up because of a regular season game in london (home field advantage is quite valuable in football), and this girl says her dad was at the game. she's an army brat so her dad, who's stationed in England (somewhere?) was dying to get tix. that made me laugh to think of (a) a bunch of americans selling out a football game in england, and (b) why exactly does the US have military personnel stationed in the UK anyway? aren't they our closest political ally?

there was an nfl game in wembley? i don't really follow sports that much, i prefer to play them rather then sit at home watching others play on a tv screen.

Anyway, there were millions of applicants to go see the game that was played at Wembley despite the teams being padded poofs (padding that causes more harm than good as you'll know, but we've covered all this before), that's more than the capacity of Wembley and its not like you can't catch games if you have sky or are around on one of the late night occasions when four or five are showing a game. However, Phil Collins also can sell out Wembley so take that with a grain of salt. Its just not even a third world like class of sport in the uk; I'd hazard a bit it fits below: football, rugby league, rugby union, cricket, snooker, darts, curling, bowling, athletics, horse racing, greyhounds, etc. in terms of popularity (and half of them aren't even sports ), I could check the statistics at work though because that will tell you exactly how much people do or do not give a shit about american football in the uk. I know people that watch it, but in fairness, they like a lot of sports and one of them stayed in the states for 3 years.

Anyway watched Grosse Point Blank, haven't seen it in years but i still maintain it's a quality black comedy, and of course John Cusack is great in it, great film, dan akroyd fits in the role as a slightly crazy hitman well too.

Also yesterday i watched Population 436, got the dvd cheap on a shopping trip to asda, i wanted some random movie to watch while parents were away over the weekend, and that fit the bill.
Yes the story is basically the same as an episode of 80s twilight zone, and yes it does star Fred Durst as a sheriffs deputy, and also i do usually hate when musician/singers (i use the term loosely) try to act and vice versa, but in all fairness he actually did a pretty good job, although it's also the only movie i know of he's been in so it may have been a fluke or just an appropriate role, but i think he pulled it off well.

The story was basically, a man from the census bereau goes to a small village to find out why the population has been 436 for the past 150 years (or something like that) and he finds sinister goings on with the villagers obsessed with religion and suchlike, etc etc you know how it goes.

I think I did something really dumb. I just installed vista business on this box that I can't get anything else to install on (and I can't seem to locate the hw problem - but I've verified that it's the same problem with different cpus, mbs, memory sticks, hdds, and that all of them passed all the tests on the heiro6 diagnostic tests.

anyway...I deleted the vista partition after the successful install, but now XP won't install to it despite the partition being deleted.

so iunno wtf I've done this time. but fuckit. heroes is done taping. imma give that a go. season finale of californication too.

At what point does it fail? You have selected to create a new partition in that space and formated it, right? Is it at the beginning of the primary drive? Could it be you're trying to create a bootable partition out of bootable space? Or is that the same space you had XPs installed before?

xp install disc can't even successfully reformat the former vista partition (even though it said it was just ntfs). how is that possible? isn't it just a gui of fdisk?

I'd rather run ubuntu than vista on this machine (just a fileserv), but I can't get anything else to install. and by "I can't get," I mean the prepackaged installers run into errors or the system bsod's when booting to hdd after files are copied.

iunno. whatever. I'll futz with it later.

edit: californication was a bit of a letdown. heroes was pretty stupid cuz all I care about is peter. oh. and claire is fucking hot. but then I remember that I'm twice her age. and it feels dirty and I sigh. so there's that.

Are you sure you don't need to install any third-party storage drivers beforehand? Sure sounds like it's some kind of storage problem... either drivers or bad sectors on disk Prolly best if you PM me your system's specs and I'll see what can be causing the problem. I can't promise you anything tho other than I'll look into it (I have a few hours to kill ATM)
