Finally managed to get hold of "Kiss Me Kate" so I watched that recently, plus re-watching "Men Behaving Badly".

While I'm at it, I'd greatly appreciate your help in completing my Brit sitcom collection. Problem is, I'm not that much of a TV person and don't get many Brit TV channels so it's kinda hard for me to find titles that I'd like.

If it's any easier, here's a quick list of sitcoms that I liked (not in any order) with my rating (out of 5): "Bottom" (5), "The New Statesman" (5), "The Young Ones" (4), "Red Dwarf" (5), "Coupling" (4), "'Allo 'Allo!" (4), "Da Ali G Show" (4), "Lenny Henry in Pieces" (4), "The Kumars at No. 42" (3), "The IT Crowd" (3), "Not Going Out" (3), "The Office" (4), "My Dad's Army" (3), "Two Pints of Lager (And a Packet of Crisps)" (2), "Green Wing" (2), "The Black Adder" (5), "Yes, Prime Minister" (4), "Kiss Me Kate" (4), "Men Behaving Badly" (5), "The Vicar of Dibley" (3), "Absolutely Fabulous" (3-4),...

I could go on but that should give you some idea, I guess :? The main problem is, there's prolly loads of excellent Brit sitcom that I haven't even heard of before and browsing through sites like http://www.sitcom.co.uk/list.shtml doesn't help all that much. There's just too many shows that I'm not familiar with.

Any recommendations/suggestions? Thanks :D

btw it's just Dads Army, not My Dads Army :)

I would definately recommend anything with that has Alan Patridge (played by steve coogan) in like The Day Today (which i'd recommend anyway as chris morris is in it, along with Brass Eye), knowing me knowing you with alan patridge, and I'm alan partridge.

I'd also recommend The League of Gentlemen (not to be confused with the movie league of extraordinary gentlemen)

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em is also a classic britcom, The likely lads and sequel show Whatever Happened to the likely lads was pretty good.

If you can find it then This morning with Richard Not Judy was pretty funny, and the detectives starring jasper carrot and robert powell

others to get include but are not limited too

Father ted
fall and rise of reginald perrin
rising damp
open all hours
porridge
Drop the dead donkey (although possibly a bit dated)
Home to roost
The High Life
Yes Minister, and Yes prime minister
Not the 9 o'clock news
steptoe and son
Sykes
my dead dad
On the buses
Rab C. Nesbitt
'Till Death Do Us Part and its sequel show In Sickness and in health

Not sure if these next ones are really classed as sitcom or just comedy but try

Fonejacker and Bo selecta (or at least series 1 and 2 of bo). Bo selecta is one of those shows you either really love it or really hate it

Also some comedy panel shows you should check out

Q.I. Quite Interesting

Hope that gives you something to go at Myk :)

wait green wing gets 2 and shite like coupling and disposable tat like da ali g show get 4?

I think your shit-to-scale is broken

I watched Flight of the Living Dead (aka. plane dead) and it was a fun movie, obviously silly but it worked really well if you can ignore how stupid people are. Enjoyable.

I have finished playing the brilliant Half-Life 2 Episode 2 which i would recommend to everyone, its a real joy to play and makes halo 3 look like the absolutely mediocre, overhyped, under realised tat that it is.

There's also portal, which i can only describe as masterful... a real joy to play, funny, and the best story in a puzzle game... really works well and I can't wait to see what those guys whip up in the future :)

i was wondering how the ali g show got so high, but i disagree about coupling because (series 1-3) i enjoyed, series 4 is the aboslute dregs though, i'm thinking that guy who plays oliver in series 4 is possibly what causes shows to jump the shark as it were, another britcom "grown ups" jumped the shark huge style in series 2 when they rescripted the attitudes and behaviour of all the characters, changed all the locales, and hired the oliver guy to play one of the lead roles, he's a fucking tosser, i hope he falls on a landmine and has his face blown off.

I'm hoping to get HL ep 2 soon, looking forward to it, also saw portal to dl but it was less then 2 gig so i figured it was some shit cd based game and didn't bother

heroes and californication. californication was raunchy and funny as hell. heroes was good but annoying (as always). I love (and HATE) that there are about 10 different story arcs but only 4 ever make it into any one episode. and now they just went and opened up a second new one for the series.

Thanks to Max for all the titles, most of which I never even heard of so I'll most definitely give them at least a glimpse if I'll find them anywhere. "Ali G ..." prolly got my 4 cuz I only watched the first few of them, so I guess the show went downhill from there :? Yes, I only watched first three series of "Coupling" Anyway, that list is just so you'll get an idea of what I liked... if it has my rating of 2 that's still good enough and is obviously missing quite a lot of the good stuff, like "Only Fools and Horses", "My Name is Allan Partridge", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "The League of Gentlemen", "Little Britain",... As for "Green Wing", Iunno, I thought it was rushed-in crap (pun intended) and not all that funny. Or I simply didn't get it :? Never mind... oh, "Never Mind The Buzzcocks" is brilliant IMO. So, the shows I'll be checking are:

The Day Today
Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
The likely lads
Whatever Happened to the likely lads
This morning with Richard Not Judy
The detectives
Father ted
fall and rise of reginald perrin
rising damp
open all hours
porridge
Drop the dead donkey
Home to roost
The High Life
Not the 9 o'clock news
steptoe and son
Sykes
my dead dad
On the buses
Rab C. Nesbitt
'Till Death Do Us Part
In Sickness and in health
Fonejacker
Bo selecta

Finally got around to watching sunshine. And I really liked it. It is just the kind of scifi i like the best. .all concept and not monsters or robots or some shit... witch i like as well but not as much. There isn't a lot of films done like this , though almost all the ones that are are worth watching. It got a little weak once it met up with the other ship and the wierd blury guy was around.

Still all in all very good.. in fact I have a dvd orded.. as this one is going in the exulted award system of mine... buying the dvd :)

I wish it had attempted to try and do more with the sun itself as a character. I think there was genuine oppurtunaty to work on god themes in this film that were mist to have a "crazy killer" to spice up the ending. With the little speech about physics breaking down as the bomb went to the speed of light on the decent.. the film was open and ready for cool trip out moments as the main dude at the end riding the bomb moves outside of space time. This was a lot plot area and I bet if i went searching there was more on this that was cut by the weakling studio though originaly there in the writting.

Oh well I guess we stil have the russion solaris :)

gotta work on that banner spud. the ole haunted house one was a lot better. :2cents: of course.

/me agrees

The new one is ugly as the other was awesome, though less info

I know this'll prolly invoke another "wrath of the gamer god" bitchfest where I say something ungamerly and someone who actually games corrects me (usually involving a likeness of leonard nimoy somehow?). well you know what? fuckit. this has to be said.

This is why people don't let people pokémon. I don't give a vegas fuck if the vg isn't the cartoon or the card game or the figurine game or whatever. the simple fact of the matter is that this is why people don't let people pokémon, and anyone who does so deserves all the public humiliation that such an admission rightfully receives...and then some:

penny-arcade wrote:As suggested by Gabriel's recent communique, pokemania is not only going strong but has burst, like some foul canker, and the infection has spread. It's true that I have built a so-called "Leaf Deck," but this is because I was fairly certain they would beat me up if I didn't. Now he's hauling in his case of Next Quest figurines each day, as I myself once hauled a tacklebox of Necrons, only I need to stress that it was more awesome when I was doing it, because Necrons are unkillable harvesters of flesh and not some kind of weird fox or living scarf. It's absolutely fucked that I have spent almost fourteen years trying to reveal the subtle glories of table gaming, only to be cast down time and time again. However wise my counsel, it apparently lacked that crucial munchkin component.

"pocket monsters." monsters my hairy arsehole. munchkins is right. it's like taking a trip through candyland. the only thing possibly worse is watching a buncha grown men (and women) "playing" mario party. kill me now, god. please. I repent my heathen ways! you do exist! now strike me down. please! make it stop!

also watched heroes latest ep and its still pissing me off the way they all act like season 1 never existed, except when it is needed to further the episode

What I hate about Heroes is they're unable to stick to one story arc for more than a few minutes and they break it for no good reason, like just for a quick recap intermission. I'm glad I'm not watching it live, commercial breaks would only infuriate me even further. You also made a good point there Max. I don't recall them ever mentioning what the fuss is all about in the second season :? It's annoying. It went from "We have super powers. Way cool. Let's make good use of them." in the first season to "We have super powers. What a bugger." in the second. What a bummer!

Is there any other kind?

FTM: Downloaded first seasons of "The Day Today" and "This Morning with Richard Not Judy". Watched all 6 eps of the first one in a row. Just couldn't stop it was so hysterical. The other one is good and funny too, only not as much IMO. Nice concept though, never watched a "Good morning" show spoof before. And it aired late evenings  BTW, I always thought those kind of shows are hysterical on their own. :o

cool glad your enjoying the series so far i recommended :), on the day today i especially love the report about the mini shepherds where the dog flies the helicopter narrowly missing some schoolchildren hunting for worms, and an old woman up a stick in a field

one thing in the latest episode of heroes that really pissed me off, when matt parkman and nathan petrelli are talking in the hospital and matt says how he knows nathan can fly and nathan asks (as if they have never met before) how? and matt just replies with "i read your mind", despite the fact in season 1 matt SAW NATHAN FLY!!! that would've been a somewhat more obvious hint then "oh i read your mind".

The only people who seem to have any link to remembering season 1 is hiro and claires dad, granted mohinder is working with claires dad to bring down the company, but at times mohinder seems to have forgotten all about season 1 and the company.

Also the way they got rid of DL was really lame, i mean i know he took A bullet in the season 1 finale, but matt took 4 to the chest and somehow still survived, in general the whole season 1 drops seem to have been handled very poorly and yeah i'm glad i don't watch it live either

Yeah, that was hilarious :D My fav is "Allan Partridge's" football commentary when a goal is scored and he goes "Eat that!", then the ball rebounds of a goal's net and a teammate slams it in once more in celebration and "Allan" goes "And another!" ROFLLMAONHAHAANDWSTC

Arn't you a zelda freak spud?

<snip> Heroes<snip>they're unable to stick to one story arc for more than a few minutes

I think that is what makes heroes cool. I love the way the stories are all over the place and there are so many... as the show goes on and the stories all get closer and closer until there is one story at the end of season... .. .. that is going to rock.
