3:10 to Yuma. well, I'm not sure about the best western since unforgiven line, but it has the best soundtrack on a western I've heard in a long time. very reminiscent of the man without a name score or something john carpenter might do. very cool in the second half of the movie. didn't notice it in the first half.

russell crowe looks awesome and gives some very nice line deliveries; although there's really not a whole lot to work with in this movie. apparently, it's a remake. I don't remember the original. christian bale is fine but his character is completely uninteresting so it comes off as pretty stale (stale bale). I really liked ben foster in the crazy bad guy role. was a real turn for him as an actor. I couldn't believe the transformation for this movie. adam tudyk had a bit role. he's Wash in serenity spoiler: is that dude EVER gonna survive a movie?./spoiler

or something john carpenter might do

LOL

Carpenter's soundtracks are usually unbelievable naff. Some of the corniest music in film history if you include the ones he did himself

maybe. iunno. I like the string pluck sound like an old western showdown. granted, I'm convinced JC only knows three notes. but they're the quintessence of cool. and this being a western, actually belong. although I should say that what made the music standout was that the action was pretty heavy and the sound was pretty deliberate. worked for me.

I don't want to cause an outrage here...

but the original Transformers movie is a piece of shit

Once again, like most things from that time, just because it was made in the 80s doesn't mean it was ever good

@Dinky & 3:10 to Yuma... strange but I haven't even heard of this movie before :? :wacky: Western is not my fav genre but I do watch them on occasion and since Crowe's in it... iunno if I ever watched even a half bad movie with him in it so I'll have to see it then ;)

Watching "Life on Mars" for the second time now and it's still great fun. There's so much in details I missed the first time round it keeps it interesting even for the second time.

I'll prolly watch "Master & Commander" again followed by all the "Horatio Hornblower" movies next. Or maybe the other way around :? I love see battles, vintage boats and such...

 Vae that's hilarious, i haven't seen the transformers movie since it first came out so i really remember very little about it

Myk yeah life on mars rocks, very good series, the spin off (ashes to ashes) starts early next year i think, my sister went to uni with a guy who thought he was actually a reincarnation of horatio hornblower, and as such dressed as him and ran around thinking he actually was him, comical

oh also watched fridays episode of the I.T. Crowd, why is it when i watch it it's so easy to imagine spud and dinky as being in it

Will give it a try then, thanks :D Hey, while we're at it (Brit sitcom, that is)... any chance you (or anybody else) have links for this series "Kiss Me Kate" (1998) with Caroline Quentin (most will remember her as Dorothy in "Men Behaving Badly") that I've been searching for for ages. I don't think it ever was released on DVDs but VHS rips would be just as good. I found it hilarious but missed a few eps back when it was last aired (some two years ago on BBC Prime, I believe :?)

I guess. it was better than most of the series, which I loved as a child but couldn't even get through the first 2 discs cuz it was so bloody awful. but the movie moves along pretty quickly. I remember the g. i. joe movie being better for some reason (even though I liked transformers franchise more). tbh, though, all transformers animated series were shit until beast wars. that will ruffle a lot of purists, but it's a goddamn fact. beast wars was a FAR more mature show/audience (that's not saying much at times) and (more importantly) it added some DEPTH to the mythology of the older series when it put itself in their continuity.

anyway, the only thing that actually bothers me from the original movie is the sound track, which is severely dated and doesn't even fit the action half the time.

lmao @ "mature" cartoons :googley:

I watched the new series of IT Crowd... much improved this time round... and Sanchez from Garth Marenghi has arrived! Awesome :)

Watched The Plague.... I dunno why but this reminded me of an old John Carpenter like movie. This kind of movie has been done over, and over, and over. Its essentially cannon, now but it kept my interest all the way through :)

I then watched..... Red Dawn, I'd never seen it all the way through before. Funny shit. Its actually quite enjoyable in a cheesy way if you can ignore how silly it is. America stands alone! oh and englands there... all aboard the Swayze express!

oh and i completely forgot, I watched a 'movie' I really enjoyed called Death of a President which is a ficticious documentary surrounding the assination of President Bush in about early October of this year.... maybe it was cathatism in action but I really enjoyed it. Its a film four production:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0853096/

Events unfold exactly as you'd expect, where they instantly blame it on terrorism, tighten up the "Patriot" Act etc.

I'd recommend it.
