spud i think they were thinking of me when they said jew hater :D

i watched the R5 dh4 last night, it was good, i was suprised by the quality actually, the movie itself is way over the top, and bruce seems to have the stamina of a terminator or something, but it jsut makes it a more tongue in cheek enjoyable way to spend a couple hours.

i've been reading penny arcade for years aswell, good one that it is, i also read f@nb0y$, questionable content, ctrl+alt+del (who did a good spoof of american anti terror fbi guys interrigating bomberman :googley:), Wicked Lasers, you'll have that.

Anyway films watched recently, Die Hard 4.0, John Tucker Must Die, Purgatory, enjoyed all of them.

Onto gaming news now, and Heroes is getting a videogame courtesy of ubisoft Full Details Here

and if you want to play the FULL version of GTA IV, then you will be needing an xbox 360, as rockstar have struck a deal for exclusive chapter content with microsoft exclusively for the 360, although by struck a deal i mean been given by wedges of cash to make the royal mint cry.

Rockstar spokesman Hosi Simon had this to say

""They're identical games [on PS3 and 360]. We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."

Full Story Here

and now over to ollie with the weather....

saw I now pronounce you chuck and larry a couple days ago. not sure if I mentioned though. it was ok. some funny stuff. typical adam sandler fodder though.

saw the simpsons last night at the midnight show. I had a hard time staying awake. it uncomfortable. I was sweating like a pig (drank a bit before the show), and my contacts were really bothering me. that said, it was a decent. it starts off much better than it ends. it's the simpsons; it doesn't attempt to be anything else. and for the most part, it works. except the ending was bland. fortunately, plot doesn't really matter. it's the sequences. and there are some good sequences in the beginning. also: it's not south park the movie, but it is more ... graphic than the show, which was a bit of a relief I suppose.

finished 5 s5. it was a dud. significant letdown from the greatness of s2-4. would have been very interesting to see it unfold as jms planned.

In the Beginning the B5 telemovie about the Minbari War. quality was fine, but it was not really interesting either. it does a good job weaving together the continuity of the series. I suppose that's impressive. it's really the only thing of note to anyone who's already seen the series.

I think it was meant you should watch "In The Beginning" first, then "The Gathering", followed by the series and quite a few spinoffs. At least that's how it's ordered in the Lurker's B5 Guide. To add to the confusion, series and movies weren't shot/aired in correct order either ;)

Watching "Moonbase 3" now. It's a bit corny and slow paced at times but I find it interesting nonetheless. Or am I just running out of good shows to watch? :? :wacky:

no. that's just the chronological history of events as they occur in the mythology. In the beginning was written before/after s5. I forget which. but it was part of TNT picking up s5. so sayeth the featurette. I chose to watch things, generally speaking, in the order they were produced/aired so that I could better experience the emotional impact of the series. god knows, I'd probably despise Star Wars if the first three movies I saw were TPM, AotC, and RotS. btw: nearly a third of the movie is covered shot-for-shot over the course of the series. the movie was as much a catching-up mechanism for the unconverted to jump onboard as anything else.

afaik, all of the movies take place at some point inside the timeline of the series. certainly that's the case of Thirdspace, which I'm not finished with yet.

That's also one option. I haven't seen any of the B5 movies/series so far so I have yet to decide in what order I'll watch them. Good point on SW movies, prolly I wouldn't watch the best of them either if they were shot in "proper" order ;)

finished thirdspace. disappointing. I keep hoping for something epic again. like some finality with bester and psi corps or even better, the drakh war (which presumably includes the deaths of londo and g'kar). but instead, I get this double-sized episode. kind of like the "ultimates" (marvel comics one-shots).

retail release is in two days. might as well buy it. will have the entire collection. which brings me to...

watched river of souls, which was the last of the b5 movies collection. that leaves just legend of the rangers and crusade to finish the mythology (plus the aforementioned lost tales in a week or so).

I'm hella disappointed with the movies. the gathering was fine, but I'd already seen it. in the beginning was okish considering almost every major shot in the movie already exists verbatim in the series. and the last two are these non-sequitor "episodes" that occur during s5 of the series but have nothing whatever to do with any of the major conflicts. I understand that two of the actors are now dead, and that is a problem cuz you need g'kar to properly complete the drakh(sp?) war and intrigue on centari prime. but SHOULD still be done as a mini series (9-12 eps?). and the same can be said of the telepath war, except the loss of g'kar and dr. steven is even less of a concern.

whoops! silly me. I forgot the best of the one-shots: a call to arms. direct lead in to crusade too. anyway, watched that and legend of the rangers: something or othering in the light (dunno why the two titles unless they hoped to spin another series out of it).

both were heads and shoulders above the other one-shots. g'kar's existence in legend was token, though. in fact, I might even go so far as to say pointless. although he did drop a reference to lyta alexander's death. anyway, neither movie carried any appreciable emotional impact (in the way the series was quite gripping), but I much preferred them.

I caught an ep of firefly on hdtv today, and while I've come to really love serenity, this b5 marathon I'm riding reminds me why firefly is second rate. I'm sorry, but that goddamn cowboy window dressing is something I cannot get over. not when measured against stuff like BSG or B5. I tuned into firefly today, and they were fighting cowboys over livestock and riding horses on their getaway back to Serenity. clint eastwood western attitude = good. spacey sci-fi = good. space sci-fi as trope for wild west = good. actually putting wild west in sci-fi space series = :o wtf?

You gonna watch them in the order they were aired? I wonder what you'll make of the first couple of eps compared to the last few then cuz what I hear is the first aired were totally screwed up by the network and the last aired were the first that were shot and should be the best (some say even better than B5) :?

I'm watching them in whatever order they're arranged in the dvd collection and counting on their good sense to (re)establish order if continuity was fuct in original air dates. anyway, the first ep springs almost immediately after a call to arms. there's a gap between where sheridan is in the captain's chair and when the excalibur is in earth alliance hands. but the show begins with the new captain (gideon) getting the "crusade" assignment, picking his crew and so forth. then again, there's good reason to suspect they're still out of order cuz capt. lochley is listed as a regular in the opening credits, and she has nothing whatever to do with the first two eps.

anywho: john from cincinnati, entourage, and ep2 of crusade.

watched some more pre-air pilots, cavemen (wasn't great), the big bang theory (was better then cavemen but still kind of average), and a documentary on the other nostradamus which was interesting

I never liked crusade. The show had jumped the shark before it started without a grounding around a static hub of activity and a political basis. Just ended up as a crap star trek type show.

Watched Die Hard 4 and was surprised that it was okay. It was probably better than Die Hard 2, well except for the true lies crap, but it wasn't as crappy as the second was in places.

yeah. I was afraid of that. had the same feeling while watching the 2nd ep. except it was still tied to the whole cure thing cuz the reason they were strip mining the planet was in order to combat the virus. the ep itself definitely had that ST "what's today's adventure going to be?" feel to it.

I don't think it needs the politics if it manages to follow through on the drakh storyline. I mean...13 eps. it can't be so difficult to stay on track for 13 eps, can it? don't answer that. :?

sunshine. it was decent. a bit clichéd. the experience kind of reminded me of i, robot, except the latter was more action-comedy and the former was more drama-action. but I mean they were the same in that everything they did was competent, but has been done numerous times and at least one of those other times, done better. I'm not sure what else to add. it was better than supernova. I don't actually *gulp* like 2001. it's not quite event horizon and it's definitely no alien but the "in space, no one can hear you scream" tag is appropriate (it's one of those "you are your own worst enemy" kind of plots). it probably has a lot in common with that plane crash movie where they had to eat the dead people to stay alive. there's an archetypal moby dick kind of thing going on with it. iunno. I thought it was decent. a much needed dose of competent seriousness in a summer full or incompetent drama or easy laughs "comedies"

crusade eps 3-6. this is moving too slow. and wtf are they doing back on mars? a conference? wtf? I was under the impression that the whole point was to push the boundaries of known space and make first contact with someone who can help, not zip back and forth like any other ship in the fleet could do. :?

I like the basic premise insofar as the techno mages are kind of like the minbari or the vorlon from the early parts of b5, and the drakh roughly correspond to the shadow. and it was cool that they did an ep that flashed back to the as yet unfilmed telepath war(s), but there's an awful lot of meandering. and the ship isn't sending out star furies like I would expect. that is all.
