I also thought the Madsen-Carrey pair didn't work quite as well as the Winslet-Carrey in the "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" but it's still a descent flick nonetheless, I agree. Madsen is one of my fav female actors (so is Winslet BTW) and I always regarded Carrey as exemplary all-round actor so I simply needed to see this movie. The movie itself could offer more to the viewer IMO and much of it was seen before in other "similar" movies (similar in this case Thriller/Mystery with a twist at the end). I'd have to put it somewhere between "Cellular" and "The Jacket". And with such movies, seeing it for the second time has no use whatsoever unless you wanna see the intro once more (which I thought was great; nice graphics and loads of interesting info in it).

you just let uncle dinky know when you're ready to go on the grown-ups rollercoaster. ok spudy? :wacky:

Another sad old pappy that's never played one of the real pokémon games yet knows the material intimately? That would mean only one outcome, you've watched the barely related children's cartoon :P

Now who's the paedophile "grown-up"... erm wait that doesn't work as an insult...

I'm not, but its probably the best game on the DS:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platfor ... kemonpearl

Its just all down to a lot of naivity regarding pokemon games, especially from the people who've never played one and usually from the same guys that have solely watched a kids cartoon that came out a few years after the game came out ;). Its just a very simple but highly refined traditional turned-based RPG. All this kid's crap is all merchandise.

You'll have to dive into a very dubious source to get a negative review.

Using the same logic, Star Wars movies are all solely kids material because of:

but that would be the same deeply faultly logic too :)

how about all SW is kids stuff based on...all SW stuff in the past 10 years? ;)

iirc, pokemon came on before batman/superman (which I DID watch) so I would sometimes have to endure 5-10 minutes of "picachu, I choose you!" shite. although I actually know the names picachu and ash (blasphemy!) because they were plastered all over everything. but tbh, the only really loathsome thing about pokemon from my point of view is that I already dislike anime, and pokemon is like anime for kids. so it's everything that's bad about anime (screaming in high pitched nancy voices, super slow mo action scenes as if because they couldn't afford to properly animate them, etc.) done dumber for 4 year olds.

why don't you just make the transformation complete and buy a digi pet. wait. no. you - you don't have one of those too, do you? :matrix:

It's actually Pikachu but i'll let you off because we know spelling isn't big in America, i remember seeing bits of the cartoon, and not being a fan of anime i didn't like it much, but i don't tar the whole thing with the same kiddy brush, i have played one or 2 of the games, red and blue edition i think, and they were ok actually, not that kiddy at all, granted nothing exactly spectacular but not bad either.

Somehow dinky i don't think spud hangs around school playgrounds pretending to be "uncle" and trading pokemon cards

You mean like a tamogochi? (sp?) Once again, without playing one of the pokemon games you just end up sounding like a retard if you try and make connections like that. There's no pet managment in the games :)

You just end up looking like the really uncool loser that tries to butt in a serious conversations about something and then look like a complete arsehole, with everyone looking at you until you leave so the conversation can continue

Anyway the games themselves are pretty simple, you get attacked by creatures, you use a turned based mechanism to fight the monster, then you try and catch them. You also have to battle other people and join "tournaments", with badges unlocking more of the map. If you've thrashed a wild monster you are more likely to catch them. Rare ones turn up in rare locations (ie after a series of battles) and in this new one on the ds, at night/day/etc. The big con part is you can't collect everything until you trade with the sibling game (red/blue or gold/silver, and with the new games diamond/pearl). Battling gets you EXP for any monster in the battle, if you catch a pokemon instead of "killing it" (they only faint, which i guess is the kid/peta part if you have to persist with the claims) you get no EXP but get the monster. The more EXP you get, the more health you get, plus you learn more moves as you progress. You only get a maximum of four moves per monster, so you have to choose wisely. There's moves you can use during the roaming bits too, so there's key moves you've got to assign and balance between your roster of monsters. Certain types of monster work well against different types, ie. water vs fire, etc. So there's a bit of skill in choosing the right monsters. you have to be careful not to overpowerup one monster more than the others or your overall line up will be weak (and a strong water for example can defeat your strong fire leaving you with a weak lineup). Certain monsters evolve, etc. Its all just a collecting game; collecting and balancing so you don't have a hole in your lineup.

The new games got a lot of refinements on the basic stuff, so there's two sexes of the monsters, there's powerup items that they hold, etc. However, its the same game that came out what... about a decade ago? Just very refined to the point of it being very hard to find real criticism of. In fact, the real criticism is probably that its been played too safe and its still in the form of the game that was rabidly popular back a decade ago.

Its the best game on the DS, i have played a lot of great DS games too so that's saying a lot. Other good games imo, Resident Evil DS (want RE2 in a similar manner), Mario Kart, Advanced Wars: DS and Age of Empires. Enjoyed all of them, but Pokemon is getting far more playtime, even more than the sand box games like AoE.

Next you'll try and start a Zelda conversation by saying "well exxxxxcccccccccccuuuuuuuuuusssse me princess".... lame dinky... lame!

On the 'kiddy' theme though, i just saw the Harry Potter film. It was okay actually, but i was expecting to be a lot better. I wasn't so impressed with the sets as I have been on the other installments, and the score was a lot weaker this time around. Ralph Fiennes, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman etc, looked like they were enjoying hamming their roles as much as possible as usual. Good for them :)

And the next "kiddy" venture, I was going to watch this TS of transformers i have... my initial observations is that this film is going to be f*cking terrible so my expectations are on the floor which is probably a good thing. But then as dinky as just witnessed, expectations can make you look like you know absolutely nothing

i thought hyperdrive was okay when i watched it, might have another crack at it. No red dwarf, and doubt it will ever be but you know...

I watched Transformers.... erm... now there's a franchise that hasn't grown up with its audience. Its weird, i heard "shit" in there so its clearly marketed at the kids that used to watch it back in the 80s but the half modernising/half retarded nature of the transformers just seemed a tad too corny even for me  Pointless action, but i guess that's the point.

You would have thought if they were updating it to an 'adult' or at least original transformer audience they'd have made it a big war movie with loads of robots all over the shop. Similarly, if they'd have wanted to target at the similar audience as first time round they'd have made it more kids friendly (more hiding the robots in the back garden), but it was neither... I don't get it.

Protect the cube... yeah just go and run and stand on that building. Oh and put the cube in my chest... seems like a safe place to put it. Go on, do it you crazy jew. Oh yeah, i'm also a truck.

I preferred Harry Potter :googley:

No red dwarf

I don't think it was ever meant to be anything like Red Dwarf :? Still don't know what to make of it though. It's more like "The Office: In Space" but since I never got used to laughing just for the lack of a joke I never really liked "The Office" (UK one, US one doesn't even deserve to be mentioned... ups :googley:). Haven't seen the latest ep yet but I have this feeling it's more action packed and/or has an interesting story than being really funny and that's the reason ppl like it more than other eps (???). The comedy part of it just doesn't sit straight enough for me so either I don't get it or it simply doesn't have a spine to start with :? It's still funny now and then don't get me wrong. It just ain't as funny as I expected it to be.

What? No resentment? No vindicative so called scripts? No comment whatsoever? Damn! And I was looking forward to how this "who does who, is it legal and why not" ends

Never played Pokemon cuz I'm not a big fan of consoles but it sounds quite cool. :D I'm playing Gothic 3 now and while it's not bad at all there are so many bugs (even with all updates installed) in it it gives me headache. Nothing else to do really cuz it's so damn hot here I'd get tanned (and that's not my stile, looking like a spare gypsy) the moment I'd step out of the doors. So I'll stick to it for the moment. Perhaps I'll even get so bored I'll write a spicy letter of complaint to the developers. Since it's a German company it's prolly best if I mail it in an envelope with almost nude chick printed on it otherwise it'll get lost in the junk mail

i got the dvd scrs of 28 weeks later that are doing the rounds but they go into black and white at places, and i can't be bothered with that so ill wait for the proper dvdrip i think

Watched an indie film called Sidekick last night, not to be confused with hte chuck norris movie called Sidekicks with that retarded kid who talks to dolphins.

It was pretty good actually, obviously not made on a very big budget, but the story didn't really call for much in the way of effects. Basically this nerdy office worker and comic lover finds out a guy he works with has latent telekinetic abilities, and he says he can help train his abilities.... but is everybody capable of being the hero?
