Personal comment:

I find it quite odd that this hasn't been already posted here (tried search) - I find it quite a scary and sticky movie - couldn't stop watching it until the end (happens rarely these days to me, especially when it lasts for 3 hours!)

Plot outline:

On a red eye flight to Boston from LA 10 people wake up to a shock. All the passengers and crew have vanished. When they try to contact the ground they make no connections. They land the plane only to discover that things haven't changed. But its like the world is dead. No one is there, the air is still, sound doesn't echo, the food is tasteless. And a distant sound is heard coming closer. A race of monstrous beings bent on their destruction is heading for them, eating everything in sight.

Is this based on the steven king book about the time traveling plane and the "creatures" that destroy time after it has been experienced by eating it?? Casue that book rules!!!

yes, that's the one and this is also one of the best adaptations based on a book - usually they are worse than the book but this one really is an exception.

the special effects in this movie are not so good in my opinion but it really doesn't matter because the drama and the feeling of constant expectation of something terrible that is going to happen is unsurpassed. basing a movie on special effects usually does not produce a good movie anyway, it is the atmosphere it has that really counts.
