Warning! Warning!
A peace Corps Activist is on the loose.!!!! :matrix: LOL :D (Joke)

Except for maybe the real early series Dr Who ( Wlilliam Hartnel etc.) has never been ment to be taken seriously unless your under 10yrs. And its not an open end production budget so there are bound to be lower quallity for lack of better words now and then to give you better ones like the start and ending episodes.

 Gooser

The first episode will air on the 31th of March, with David Tennant and Freema Agyeman as the Doctor's new assistant. No one knows if Tennant will be there for all the new series. The're will be an episode with the Daleks and a fourth series.

Well in keeping with tradition I think they should start looking for a new Doctor even though it's an American franchise now  They introduced a new doctor every new series (or a couple of them) in the past and IMO it's one of the most imaginative ways of keeping the series interesting in the TV industry so why change what worked well in the past? Besides, I don't think that Tennant gave performance worthy of the Doctor the whole world relies upon  Eccleston was a breath of fresh air for the series and they started well, even excellent if it weren't for that Billie Piper that lagged behind performance-vise. Then, after the first series of "the new doctor", they started dumbing it down for the American market and while Tennant fits that bill perfectly I was expecting much more. Hope Brits are still be able to claim it their own in a few years time :(

I don't think you could be more wrong about that.

The American audience for Dr Who is completely different to the UK one. In the UK it's aimed at a family audience, and has to appeal to women and quite young children. It's famous for having bucked the trend toward audience fragmentation. The American audience for Dr Who is a much narrower, mostly male, niche SciFi audience.

Aiming it at the US market would mean playing down the appeal to women, and younger children, and making it more geeky. That clearly hasn't happened.

Why would you think family audience and younger population in UK are in any way dumber than geeky male US Trekkies? The point I was making in my previous post was that the dumbing factor (or one of them) is there's way too much explanation of what's goin' on and is an overkill for all of those that are familiar with Dr. Who character. That's why I mentioned tradition, meaning some were at teen age or even younger when they started watching Dr. Who and still watch it now in their early mids (like me). Also, I don't agree with you that targeting US audience would in any way make it more geeky. It's like saying only male geeks watch TV in US  Anyway, whatever the reason, if you watched latest episode you must've noticed it's pretty dumb now and the quality of acting has gone all time low IMO, and the only things better are CGIs and more expensive props/costumes. I'll still watch it nevertheless, I'm kinda optimistically hoping it gets better in time (once they bore US audience to death ) ;)

Dr Who is not aimed at people who watched the old version. It's aimed at a general audience that predominately don't watch SciFi. Russel T Davies has said that, as a long standing fan, he hopes it will appeal to the old fans, but he's not making any concessions to them.

It's never going to get the 7pm slot on a major US channel that would equate to it's British slot on BBC 1. The last time I heard it was on the SciFi channel, which has a completly different demographic from the one it was created for. If they were paying attention to the US market they would have targeted it differently, and made it more like the TV movie.

It's full of British references, that Americans wont get, and it makes good use of well-known actors, often cast against type, that are mostly unknown in the US. They wouldn't do that if they were paying attention to the US market.
