m'kay.

watched latest smallville and then watched accepted. former was decent. latter was surprisingly entertaining. I don't wanna say "good"; that's too complimentary. but it was above average for that kind of college/late teen comedy.

saw blood and chocolate</i> tonight. it's exactly as bad as it looks on the previews. it wasn't terrible. it wasn't good. I guess it's comparable to underworld</i>, and I definitely preferred underworld</i> to this. this actually reminded me of the covenant</i>. I know. that's far from a compliment. but...same basic target audience and apparent level of competence/care on the storytelling side of things.

I wanted badly to see pan's labyrinth followed by children of men or babel, but the person I went with had already seen the first two and the third only had one showing. :(

FINALLY finished dark kingdom: the dragon king</i>. it's very by-the-books plotting and acting. also very mythic in a LotR archetypal sort of way. feels like it shoulda been a tv movie, but I don't remember it being on tv. stv in the US, most likely. anyway, I thought it was great for a sci-fi channel movie (but I guess it was supposed to be more than that).

had all sorts of technical issues with the disc. finally just dl the fecking xvid.

smoking aces</i>. was disappointing. I was hoping for something along the lines of snatch</i> or kiss kiss, bang bang</i> meets pulp fiction</i>. instead, I think I go knockaround guys</i> or long kiss goodnight</i> meets lucky number slevin</i>. :?

it had moments of interesting. with such a cast as that, it's difficult not to pull some gems for scenes. but overall, a terrible waste. oh yeah, the first 30 minutes is kinda ocean's eleven</i>-ish, tongue-in-cheek then it tries to be serious and comical, then maybe the last 30 minutes is supposed to be serious. but it's impossible to take seriously cuz everything in it is set up as some kind of joke. weird.

Never saw "Smokin' Aces" but did read a few reviews of it and what I gather is that this movie is a bit more demanding than it's trailers would suggest. Will let you know what I thought of it once I see it, if nothing else it has a notable cast, as you said it, so it should still be worth seeing. Did watch two movies that could easily be thrown back to back with this one (Crime / Action or Crime / Drama w/ great casts and a few thrills), although not much of a comic moments in them. First was the latest incarnation of "The Italian Job"and was quite entertaining in a *khmmm* "The Transporter" kinda way *khmmm* and the other was "Even Money" that lacked the entertaining value IMO but was superior in dialogs to the first one.

I enjoyed the mark wahlberg version of italian job. then again, I also enjoyed ocean's eleven and the first transporter.

I wouldn't say the movie demands more than the previews, but that's an interesting way of looking at it. tbh, it's exactly like the trailers (although not as entertaining as I had hoped) for the first half of the movie. then it tries</i> to be taken seriously. and the stuff that it does in order to be taken seriously is fine in itself, but there's the palpable shift from gee-whiz, r-rated action-comedy into action/crime-drama. and (this is where the movie ultimately lost my interest) everything that happens in the second part and wants to be taken seriously is predicated on the goofing around for the first part of the movie.

watching Discovery 2057, a 3 part documentaryon discovery channel that shows what medical, global and technological advancements we could likely have in 50 years, pretty interesting and enjoyable even if it feels like its glossing over some aspects a little, worth a download

Watched "The Prestige" yesterday and I was a bit less then what I expected. I liked "The Illusionist" better in all respects. Also watched "Pan's Labyrinth" and it was all I expected and even more. Excellent stuff for everyone IMO. Would write more but have very little spare time lately (new GF is a bit of a handful LOL) :P

watched all 3 eps of Discovery 2057 now, interesting very interesting, some of it i was already aware of, some i wasn't, i'd say the weakest episode is probably 3 but still good

Ep1 focused more on medicine and transport, such as the replacing blood with a saline solution that was recently successfully tested on bringing dogs back from the dead after 3 hours, and using a patients dna to 'print' a new organ on demand using bio-printers resulting in, they believe, humans being able to easily live to the ripe old age of 200

ep2 was stuff like crime, housing, 3d holograms, robots etc

ep3 was mostly about war and global resources, and solving the energy crisis/global warming, stealth armour for soldiers, real bulletproof armour for soldiers, robotic hospital units on a battlefield that can be operated remotely from miles away for emergency operations. Also mentioned are space elevators that will take us from the surface of the earth to space stations tethered high above the earth in 30 minutes.

At the end of episode 3 it gives you a small glimpse into what scientists and futurists think will be available in 100 years time, colonies on the moon, or even mars, interstellar travel, a second earth

its all done like a docu-drama

anyway i urge all of you to check it out

discovery 2957. docu-drama. is this like walking with dinosaurs for the military or something? I think discovery channel hd airs similar stuff every 2 hours (and it's usually the same 5 programs recycled over and over again).

oops that was a typo, it's discovery 2057 lol, i never got round to watching walking with dinosaurs, but if you mean cgi and acting with theory and science behind it then yes it is.

It's like this, the third episode is about 2 scientists up in a space station above earth trying desperately to search for a way to solve the worlds energy problems before their project is shut down, this provides the show a way to show and explain the tech and theorys behind a spacestation, transport up and from it, the kinds of research up there, how the energy crisis on earth is causing conflicts between nations which of course gives them the oppurtunity to show some futuristic weapons, and medicare for soldiers along with body armour. The 2 scientists discover a solution but the chinese (in the future the 2 super powers are the u.s and china) want it all for themselves, and kidnap 1 scientists wife to ensure he does their dirty work, the but to overcome the problem means broadcasting to the entire world so the chinese can't touch her or anyone else, cue lots of theorys and explanations behind the next method of communication using lasers etc

ah. sounds more story than theory. the theory in walking with dinosaurs is kind of pathetic by itself. like 90+% of it is "I kinda sorta think it may have been like this." fun in itself though.

actually enjoyed the "valentine's day" ep of smallville</i>, which is a bit out of the ordinary, cuz I usually DESPISE passionately those holiday/seasonal eps & and I'm not a fan of the way they keep recycling the clark-lana stuff...but I guess if it's done well, it's done well.

off hand, I think the only other "holiday special" I ever liked was the ep from s2 of buffy</i>, and even that was ruined a bit by the show's shoe-string effects - except for vampires, every monster on the show looked like a guy in an ape suit anyway, so when they actually turned into those things, they didn't look any different.
