latest BSG. and I was glad they killed off kat. her entire usefulness to the series was a reflection of starbuck/young starbuck. a minor foil. her usefulness expired a year ago.. in other news, is it me or did lucy lawless suddenly become smokin' hot? I never cared for her before. I guess getting out of bed in the morning with a guy and a hot chick really ups yer hotness factor. this may well be the single greatest transformation of hotness factor, even trumping the amazing attributes of mass quantities of alcohol. it seemed wrong to have an ep with baltar and not show him interacting with the six in his head. I liked him as the calm, sage-like figure. the shoe fit. but it also felt wrong that he didn't commune with head six at all either - like that's a part of who he is now, so you can't just turn it off when it doesn't suit the ep's interest

Hotness yes, cuteness no IMO that would be Gina Torres in what I believe was episode 7 of Firefly when she suddenly became more of a mother figure to Serenity crew.

This latest ep of BSG was really good in contrast to a few previous eps. Again-- IMO.

it was alright. I can definitely understand why it failed at the box office. there are some laughs, but it's not all that good. it could have been the animal house</i> of the new millennium. instead, it's pretty tame. I was waiting for them to rock out this frat party and then again at this bar/open mic contest. and for all the singing involved throughout the movie, there's more rocking out in school of rock</i> than this. which is just wrong on so many levels.

Watched "MirrorMask" yesterday and was thoroughly impressed. It's one of those movies that deal with that imaginary point in space and time between dreams and reality, childhood and adulthood,...

superman returns</i>. it was really good. I mean, inasmuch as I could like superman (grew to like him less and less as I got older cuz he's fecking superman - nothing's actually a challenge for him and he's basically mr. moral/ethical perfection so never really screws up either).

anyway, for a (classic) lex luthor storyline (i.e., sans any comparable baddies like darkseid, lobo, zod, et al.), I thought it was as much supes being supes as it could reasonbly be. scenes requiring strength, flight, heat vision, x-ray vision, and the breath thing. certainly more and better action than the first reeve movie (cutting away and throwing a small continent into deep space is at least as great a feat as reversing the rotation of the earth without the incredibly dumb premise of reversing time).

two things that still bothered me: focus on lois' feet. there's at least two scenes that draw your attention to her (of course painted) feet. uh...singer got him some tarantino issues now? and the second issues is the way people (mostly lois) fly with superman. just because he's touching you doesn't mean you magically have the power of flight too. it was like she was flying with him rather than being carried by him. it's not SO bad while they're flying over the city or to get the image flying parallel to the water. but what possible purpose does it serve to show him with his hands above her waist and her not even standing on his boots while they land? and of course, there's no sign whatever of the necessary pressure that would need to be applied to prevent her from falling to the ground. that's one area where the first movie(s) did a better job (and with considerably fewer resources).

eragon</i>. hmm. well, the reviews I read beforehand were lukewarm-to-bad. so I was expecting something along the lines of dungeons & dragons</i> (incidentally also featuring jeremy irons). I only mention reviews, however, cuz one of them was spot on: this is star wars</i> set in lord of the rings</i>. I'm not saying it's as good as SW, but it is SO star wars</i> set in LotR; that's all I could think about throughout the whole damn movie.

it was good enough. one review said it was "harry potter light." well, that's rubbish. it's more interesting than any of the four HP movies. unless the critic meant to imply that, like harry potter</i> movies, this movie is "light" (I actually think he wrote "lite," but I refuse to accept that as a word in the english language ).

I wish someone more capable were in charge of the project. for all of its Lucasian SW simpleness (we're talking episode 4, not the prequels), it could have played very big. but it's really all over the place. there's talk of dwarves and elves, but they have nothing whatever to do with the movie. there are relatively major characters who float in and out, almost completely without purpose. but there's also a lot to work with. some tightening-up of the plot. some more elaboration in other spots. despite being terribly derivative (also like SW), it has all the right materials in place for an awesome movie.

oh yeah, expect a sequel. I do hope the evil king doesn't turn out to be eragon's father, or as chris rock once said, "george lucas gonna sue somebody!"

finally got round to catching up on my new tmnt season 6, yes that's the fucking shit gay Fast Forward season, where for no apparent reason (possibly due to season 5 being pay per view on comcast only???) the turtles get shot into the future and they even have no idea how or why, you can tell after the way the season 1-4 got darker in tone and was more gritty and violent then a kids cartoon (it was definately more adult), yet in season 6 the drawings and animation are more kid friendly, the theme tune screams kid j-pop rip off crap, and the stories are so light and bubbly that it feels more like watching teenage mutant muppet babies. somehow if they don't go back to the more adult ideas i see it being cancelled very soon.

Oh and it replaces casey jones & april with.....

that reminds me, saw the TMNT cgi trailer on the big screen before eragon</i>. it looks pretty cool. never watched the "new" series. don't think it's cgi though. anyway, the little gag at the end was classic tmnt:

last 40 minutes of underclassmen</i>. (I'd seen the first 2/3rds of the movie a while ago. it was ok. I mean...I turned it off and went to bed and didn't give it a second thought until I caught it on tv almost a year later. so it's not good. I guess I should say it was tolerable.

kristiana lokien alert! she's in this movie called dark kingdom: dragon king (not the original name, but that's the US stv name). now I'm not saying it's LotR here, but for stv, it's pretty damn good. better than any "made for tv" sci-fi channel stinker. that said, being kristana's best movie to date is hardly a rousing recommendation.

oh yeah, I haven't finished cuz the damn dvd player can't handle dl dvd+r. about halfway through when it gave up the ghost. maybe the xbox can handle it? I don't like to watch movies on the pc. it's how I separate real tv/movies from porn.

police squad rules, i too have the dvd, or i should say i ordered it and then my mum complained that if i kept buying things she wouldn't have any little things to get me as extras for christmas so i said "heres police squad, wrap it up" lol, so i'll be enjoying it tomorrow

i also ordered World War Z (a book, zombie relatedness) and preordered Book 2 of the walking dead comic (issues 13-26+extras) book 1 was awesome and kept me reading

watched the ringer</i>. wasn't good. wasn't terrible.

watched most of evil dead 2</i> (first hour). had to keep changing back to check on the rangers though. after almost 2 periods, it was 3-0. so I figured it was safe to stick with ed2</i>. I check back and the rangers had just gone down 4-3. :mad: pissed me off that they blew the lead and then I had to sit through the rest of the period to see them not come back.

I'd heard such terrible word of mouth reviews, even john cusack couldn't draw me to it. but it had some funny stuff. also a lot of extraneous stuff that screams terrible plot construction. but...well...it was a lot like say anything...</i> for 40 year olds, I think.

That was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. I laughed so much it was almost brown trousers time Wish I could get DVD as well but have spent all my "allowance" for this Xmas season, already. Oh, which reminds me- MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL!!! :ho-ho-ho:

P.S.: Watched "Man of the Year" yesterday and I really liked it. It has some extremely funny parts, then gets a bit more "serious", thriller-like, then some romance, some drama and in the end finishes with comedy again. Good cast, too. Then I had a slight overdose of Wine so I'm avoiding social duties (have some family on a visit for the holidays) as much as I can for now and standing-by for Doctor Who Xmas special
