Wing commander IV Cutscenes compiled to one movie

I got a hold of the rare DVD of the game... all footage is in highresolution DVD quality.
If you never owned the game some parts of the story might be hard to understand...
But if you are a Mark Hamill fan you must have this one

It has over 4 hours of footage, but since this was an interactive game you had to make choices to change the story, so I've gotta do my best to make it a good one.
it might turn out to be a 3 hour movie nevertheless.

Now if they only made a DVD of the 3rd one... I loved the Kilrathi in there.

I was really disappointed with the movie... I prefer all the games over it.

I did 704x360 ~ 1.91:1
it should have been 704x384 ~ 1.83:1 or something

I'm halfway converting to divx. Shall I leave it in the aspect ratio or correct everything again. You hardly notice the difference

but it should look better I guess. although it's hardly noticable.

I've been checking bitrate vs MB

the movie is 6channel which I'm not gonna change and I tried in 900kbit/s
but basicly it didn't matter since it would go over 1400MB easily,

by my calculations it's gonna be 1800MB give or take 100MB over or below it.

original size was 704x480 letterboxed which is NTSC, it plays good on my DVD player, but as soon as it become an AVI the aspect ratio of the movie itself is 2.10:1 which is too flat.
I cropped away the black bars and I get a resolution of 704x330, that's why I made it into 704x360.
In 704x384 they look stretched, by maybe I've seen too many squashed parts in my life

I checked out some more clips... it seems very interesting.

The intro and some other scenes have more black bars than most scenes.
Which means if I keep 704x360 the AR is good, but you miss some pixels, but you wont see blackbars coming and going.

if I change it to 704x384, the AR stays the same, but the video has a bit more pixels and you see the blackbars coming and going which could be annoying.

not sure why they choose to have different aspect ratios in the movie.

here are 3 examples:

original picture 704x480 letterboxed



704x384 no black borders and other scenes miss pixels.. this is no good.



704x384 with occasionally blackborders, this I could do



704x360 no black borders, but sometimes a slightly pixel cut, this is what I am doing at the moment and seems less annoying



Although the majority might have more pixels, so I could do it, but you must realize the occasionally black bars

I'm resaving everything all over again. I dont want too much pixel cropping.

so the intro just has tiny black bars, tiny... and perhaps 2 other scenes...we can live with that

the way I did it now made the tv have 2 tiny black bars...

So bear with me, it might take a bit longer
