there is apparently a sci-fi hd channel in the US. I found the option to request it from my local cable provider. (to which I immediately received a form letter stating that there are no curent plans to add the channel). :?

yeah, dinky gets five Bush-Endorsed ghetto points for using "dawg". He can use them to redeem the right to not vote, sit at the front of the bus, or save up for diabetes.

can't say I get the bush reference.

watched a mini-series on Julius/Agustus Ceasar called empire</i>.

it plays-out like a hallmark special tv version of gladiator</i> + rome</i> (the hbo series).

paints agustus as this prodigal son, almost christ-like figure. was pretty bad. basically what you'd expect from a tv mini-series (although I thought helen of troy</i> was pretty good for that medium).

Finally got round to watching 'BeyondTheWallOfSleep' last night. Enjoyed it; A sorta seudo-camp-hammer-nightmare-drugtrip-gorefest-kinda thang! :wacky:
Bad acting, dodgy prosthetics and practical effects, (though a couple were passable), and even worse CGI all lent themselves well to the overall feel of the piece.
Part Student-Statement/'Mumbo-Jumbo', part Hammer-Horror, all Average-Splatter.
Passed the time spose.

Your obviously not black and/or don't live in Florida or New Orleans

I watched some more buffy, i'm up to series 4 or 5, i forgot, i think its 5 (edit:definitely). Anyway, Dawn isn't nearly as annoying as i thought she was looking back, but the "initiative" was hella lame. Continuing to watch Oz too, which is less violent than it was, which is a shame.

watched latest eps, family guy, simpsons, american dad, robot chicken.

Family guy wasnt as annoying as the previous 2 eps which is ironic as it contained some actual meg who is annoying

simpsons retarded

american dad pretty funny, patrick stewart singing one of george formby's hits (when i'm cleaning windows) was absolutely hilarious and anyone who didn't get it doesn't deserve to be called english, but the ep as a whole was pretty good too

robot chicken was pretty funny too but it didnt seem as good as some eps have been either

forgot to mention I tried to watch the new "definitive" original trilogy on dvd. had to turn it off after only 5 minutes. it was painful. here's my warning posted on FH:
I bought the new release of the original theatrical movies (with the special editions that come along with them - price was the same as any new release though). anyway, do not buy the dvds if your purpose in doing so is to get the original theatrical versions. they are absolute crap. I guess they're laserdisc transfers (as has already been mentioned), and they are letterboxed (matted onto a 4:3 image - not anamorphic) so you'll have to tweak your widescreen display to see them properly, and of course there's the measley 2ch audio (available in 3 different languages on the r1 discs). anyway, the video quality is really really bad - atrocious. that's not hyperbole. they're grainy as fuck. it looks like more black dots than actual images. I've watched SD TV rips that looked better.

I realize nothing here is exactly new, except I've finally seen it for myself, and even I notice the really really bad quality video (for your reference, I think autogk looks great). I have the cleaned-up versions of the original trilogy when they were re-released on vhs in the mid-90s. I'm saddened that they're full screen (they were christmast gifts), but their quality blows these "dvds" out of the water.

Dunno, I grabbed a rip of it posted here by Vae, and it looks decent enough :)

Transfer still looks better than the Excalibur DVD

pick-up a copy of bladerunner</i> or ghostbusters</i> or the se discs as a comparison. the video is really, obviously bad on the theatrical versions. I'm not imagining it. yes, I'm looking at it on a 6'-wide screen, but I'm also comparing it to other dvds and tv rips that are blown-up to that size. it's terrible. it kind of reminds me of the way "cookies 'n' cream" ice cream looks or "vanilla bean" cheesecake with those little black grains all about the place or a negative image of the space background here where the stars are little black dots that shake. no one-touch dvd solution on the planet looks as bad as these transfers. and I loaded the vhs tapes just to compare. and guess what? the vhs versions look like dvd-quality in comparison to the frickin' dvds! they still have the frame slippage things that all reel media have, but the video itself isn't nearly so grainy. like a weak over-the-air tv signal.
