whats with the gay french é?, we call it the telly (television) and the telephone is the phone, that of course isn't including all the slang for tv and phone. Same as refrigerator is the fridge

cuz...uh...it's something I've only heard. and the proper spelling (of the whole word) uses the E. so I went with the long E thingy. actually, I don't know the shortcut for a macron bar, so I did the rising thing.

so if someone says "you go' uh caull on the telly," that just makes no sense then? (cuz it sounds</i> really cool in one of those degenerate english accents - cockney?)

watched latest ep of 24</i> (last week's).

"you go' uh caull on the telly,"

im taking that as meaning a telephone call, and for a start a cockney would call it the dog & bone (cockney rhyming slang for phone), where as everyone else would say "you've got a phone call" or "OI MUM PHONE"

 yeah. wasn't actually going for cockney per se. just thinking of it as a really heavy english accent that elides a lot of allophonic sounds and skews the phonemes.

anyway, that answers it. I suppose in australian telly would be television also...

no doubt. I was thinking more along the lines of "ok. everyone knows that lionel knows. great. good. that should have happened 5 eps ago."

I also did a double take when I (didn't fast forward through and actually) watched the opening credits/theme and noticed that the johnathan sch...the original Luke Duke (of Hazard)...was still listed (prominently too - with pic). most shows will change the titles as soon as someone leaves the show.

(or am I supposed to infer something really lame like he's coming back?)

well when he died he was in it an extra 2 times despite that obvious handicap of being dead  even if once was in the home movies martha is watching, they werent reused stock footage so it would've still classed as him being paid to appear

and of course the episode where clark sees him in the afterlife when he gets told to bring him back someone must die, which... didnt clark die once before too? so erm if his dad wasnt dead at that point who did he see then?

amusingly though, johnathan kents dead yet still gets his pic in intro yet it took lionel an entire season before he was bumped to intro status

word. oh...and...er...I think he was Bo Duke, not Luke Duke. fuckit. I know who Daisy Duke was. that's the important one.

;)

edit: no movies last night. lost $18 at the craps table instead.

I watched "The Brotherhood of the Wolf". I'd never got round to watching it before and I found it quite enjoyable, if a tad over indulgent in slow motion for my taste. It was the uk dvd so when i put it in it went to the menu, i pressed play... and then the film was almost ruined. F*ckin AWFUL dub was default... i don't know how people can tolerate film sodomisation like that. He only said 3 sentances, and i had hit the stop button 3 times.

After i put it in french with the english subtitles, it was good though and the language seemed natural. In english "and my usual glass of wine" just sounded retarded, but that was probably the shite voice acting... i dunno how those people can live with themselves.

As for the film, i was expecting a werewolf movie which it wasn't in the end

it's funny what films they do that to here. actually...I think it's pretty clear what their method is. but anything with "movie critic credibility" gets subbed. everything else [insert jet li/jackie chan movie here] gets dubbed. the only place this didn't seem to apply was Iron Monkey, which got a theatrical release in the US long after Hong Kong (ala Shaun of the Dead with UK), except it was treated, advertised, and more or less felt, like a jet li/chow yun fat actioner rather than the supposed art house stuff like house of crouching hero dragon whores.

about to watch latest sopranos.

well it wasn't all bad, i mean the original audio was on the disc, it just pisses me off it wasn't default. Its like those german rippers that go to the effort of including english original audio, then put the damn german as the original audio. Its retarded to hold a dub over original audio if you ask me.

i'll have to leech sopranos off of newsgroups when it appears

yes it is retarded to sub, it pisses me off, they should always keep the original language as default no matter what the language is
