From those shots it looks like an athetically cinematic movie. Beyond that i know very little about it, other than someone really wanted me to get it for them.

Okay watched the first few episodes and its ultra-cyberpunk-extreme. There's a very, very cinematic attempt at style, its very odd for a tv series to be shot like this, it has that 24/BSG fight scene camera work all the time.
First episode has this Brazil thing going on with the water work set.
Here's some screenshots from episode 1, look at the number of camera changes in the first 2 minutes (and this was just random choices, there's even more):

Now here's a random set of shots from the rest of the first episode:

Lets just say its not very hard to find a unique/interesting shot in this series, its pretty much every frame. It feels very gilliam in that way, like too much is happening for your brain to keep up (12 monkeys and brazil especially do this). There are a lot of camera setups, its all very overwhelming.

Hey, note i didn't make any assertion on whether i liked\disliked the show btw, incase you don't like it.

i was speaking purely about uniqueness, visuals and effort. I found it very hard to concentrate on because of the camera work and amount of content on frame, but its the kind of droll b-movie stuff i like generally (In the mouth of madness, slow plot building kind of way), where its very long and unravels.

You might have guessed i hate that star trek crap where everyone is happy... they should do a star trek episode where one of the red shirted guys is shooting smack and hits his wife about a bit.

They obviously spent a bit of money on this judging by the quality of the cgi, and i think they've gone over the top with style to overcome the tv budgetry constraints. What ever you feel of the story (and its rather "complex" as far as tv goes) or the series, its one thats very by itself, or at least i can't really draw a parrallel.

My friend rates it very highly, i was impressed but I can't really rate it on two episodes as such, especially since the second episode was very different to the first. The first has a lot in Alphaverse, whereas episode two is in the betaverse.

Thanks a lot for this one Spudthedestroyer.

I''ve only seen the 1st 2, but it seems really interesting. It's obvious they got a bunch of their plot elements as well as visual style off of a few known sci-fi movies, but it still pretty good. :)

I've seen the entire series now. The plot and visuals settle and you get used to them, there's a lot of lifting going on, but there's always a bit of plagrism in scifi

There's a big segment where you don't feel the story is progressing much, and there's also a bit of detatchment. Good do with a lot more action if you ask me.

As far a plots go its pretty out there. I enjoyed it.

I hear there's both a second series and a dvd on the way, so lets see how those turn out :)

I'm getting to really like this series. The only thing that makes it hard to watch is the protagonist ... they make him too much of a predictably annoying a******, with predictably annoying, smarta** dialogue; he's no Deckard. I actually want him killed, hehehe.

Will they release dvd for this series? The tv rip is rather blurry for the cgi. Or is there a HDTV rip?

What if humans didn't abuse the earth and its resources? How different would the world be? Take a fantastic leap of the imagination and explore the world through three parallel universes – Alphaverse (what our world could end up being), Betaverse (our world today) and Gammaverse (what our world could have been). Co-created and executive produced by Canadian Robert Wertheimer (Jonsworth Productions) and South African Chris Roland (The Imaginarium), "Charlie Jade" marks one of the most ambitious co-production series ever between South Africa and Canada.
Jeffrey Pierce (David Milch’s Big Apple, S1m0ne, The West Wing) stars as Charlie Jade, a rogue detective in Alphaverse who, while on the hunt for the killer of a missing woman, gets caught in an explosion from a covert desert operation, propelling him into a strange parallel universe, Betaverse. As he searches for the truth about the explosion, he is drawn into a conflict that not only involves his home universe and the one he now inhabits, but another pristine pacifist universe (Gammaverse) with unsuspected terror at its heart. The series also stars South African actors Michele Burgers and Danny Keogh, and Canadian actors Michael Filipowich, Patricia McKenzie and Tyrone Benskin.
Charlie Jade uses a dramatic context to explore the difficult and sometimes overwhelming problems of our contemporary industrial society including the subjects of terrorism, a depleted environment, rampant consumerism and the dehumanizing effects of overwhelming technology and dominant multinational corporations.

Charlie Jade's debut season aired from April to August 2005 on Canadian channel SPACE (www.spacecast.com).
good show, check it out if you havent already - not the usual Hollywood SciFi ;)

links are all tvrips, the first half re-encoded to XviD 576x338 from the Secret Sam SVCDs, a few are low quality rips (352x240, no proper cropping, and a little blocky - watchable though), and latest rips are excellent quality 640x368 DSRips by BiTSrg. All also to be found on bittorrent.
