PLOT:
A ship pulls into New York Harbor with no one on board. The police find a cargo full of green pulsating eggs. Upon contact, the eggs explode spreading a green acid like substance that seeps into the skin and explodes. It is later discovered that the eggs are being manufactured in South America by a one-eyed Martian that grew from a tiny seed a former astronaut brought back from a expedition o Mars.
USER COMMENTS:
This odd sci-fi/horror mix was directed by Luigi Cozzi, owner and operator of the Dario Argento store in Rome (Profondo Rosso).
Contamination is not a great film. It's about giant green glowing alien eggs that are brought back to earth after a mission to Mars. For some reason, when they hatch they spew slime and if it comes into contact with a human body (or even a rat), it makes them explode violently like a bloody volcano.
It starts off perfectly with some gory gooey deaths. The first 30 minutes showed tons of promise but somehow it loses steam rather quickly and the movie slows down to a crawl. It's talky, uneventful and even rather dull in the middle. But it eventually does pick up at the finale, which returns to the bloody goodness of the beginning.
It's tough to recommend this film but I have to admit it gets better with every viewing. It might bore some people but ultimately it is rewarding. A mixed review.
