SCI FI Expands BSG Season 2 Finale to 90-Minutes
Thu 16th Feb

BIGGEST 'BATTLESTAR GALACTICA' EPISODE EVER
Released by Sci Fi

NEW YORK -- February 15, 2006 -- The season two finale of SCI FI Channel's critically-acclaimed original series 'Battlestar Galactica' will be its biggest episode ever. "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2" will be presented as a special 90-minute television event on Friday, March 10, 2006 @ 10pm-11:30pm ET/PT.

In true Galactica-style, the expanded season finale cliff-hanger is sure to leave viewers wanting more. Up to this point, the last remnants of humanity have been on the run from the Cylons and searching for a mythical planet called Earth. They have been led by President Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), a woman whom many believe is the chosen prophet of human scripture, and Admiral William Adama (Edward James Olmos), a retired war hero forced back into service after the Cylons' near-genocide of the human race.

Now, with the presidential campaigning in full swing, the election's outcome hinges upon a core debate - whether or not to abandon the search for Earth when the Galactica crew discovers a habitable planet. When the election begins to swing in favour of Baltar (James Callis) - a man whom Roslin is convinced is a Cylon collaborator - the incumbent president must decide whether or not to take drastic measures for the greater good. Things become even further complicated when the Cylons, led by Caprica Six (Tricia Helfer) and Sharon (Grace Park), find the planet and offer humanity a stunning proposal of peace.

The 90-minute 'Battlestar' finale will follow the season finales of SCI FI's other hit original series, 'Stargate SG-1' (8pm) and 'Stargate Atlantis' (9pm).

Production on season three of 'Battlestar Galactica' will begin in April in Vancouver, with Lucy Lawless joining the cast for a 10-episode arc.

SCI FI Channel is a television network where "what if" is what's on. Galactica set for October season 3 premiere

Source: Gateworld

The SCI FI Channel's top-rated original series will break the mold and jump to a fall season premiere, the network announced today. The 20-episode third season of Battlestar Galactica will premiere in October 2006 on the cable network.

Production begins in April in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The network did not give a reason for the later premiere date. As a cable channel SCI FI has traditionally counter-programmed to the big broadcast networks, airing new episodes of its original series when the networks are in reruns.

The broadcast networks have increasingly aired new programming during the summer off-season, such as ABC's highly-rated Dancing With the Stars. But in October, Galactica will likely face stiffer competition.

Whether or not a fall premiere for SCI FI's highest-rated series will see an improvement for Galactica's viewership remains to be seen. The show's ratings have dropped significantly this season, along with the rest of the network's Friday night line-up.

who's betting their ratings dropped because of crap schedule juggling? they should give sky 1 it first, so we get better quality rips too

I would imagine the Tivo and itunes downloads have made an impact on the viewing figures, i mean who wants to watch something like BSG when there's a break every 10 mins, you just loose the flow.

Viewing TV has gone down across the board but BSG remains Sci-fi highest rated show

They want to improve the ratings of BSG.
They will show all 20 episodes without a break & hope that the continuity is not disrupted.
BSG is not in any danger. But they want to accommodate some other shows in that time slot in summer that are not as arc-heavy.
As the spokesperson said, "BSG is not going anywhere. [And] fans will get uninterrupted Galactica episodes in fall."
Personally, I see the logic to this.
The anticipation will hopefully grow the numbers.
And if the Stargates are going to continue to show ratings declines, they will do it without Galactica being dragged down with them.
Hang in there.
To repeat what Sci Fi indicated, "BSG is not going anywhere!"

true, downloads probably account for a lot, but BSg was released in the uk before the states in the first series and even then, that pushed it through the roof so there's obviously still the large base of people who watch it on tv.

Its got to be naff scheduling that's the biggest culprit, i mean i keep missing the simpsons, family guy, american dad, lost, etc. for the same reasons.

I think they might be just trying to see how well there top show rates against other networks. Like the blurb said they normaly put there stuff up against re-runs. mabey with BSG they think they have a shot to take on the top rating shows of other networks and thus get more dosh for advertizing.
