afaik it was a little higher on the totem pole: stv movie. it's 16:9. doesn't necessarily mean anything with hdtv being as popular as it is these days. it's also a new release dvd with a pretty heafty $19.99 street price. Also a bit pricey for your average sci-fi channel telepic. and I don't seem to recall any adverts for a D&D 2 movie on any tv stations last year. but none of this is remotely conclusive evidence.

edit: yep. you're right. apparently was a sci-fi telipic...

an imdb review wrote:For all of those who play DND and have played DND throughout the years... you may have seen a movie that came out in 2000 that you may have hated or maybe even liked what was called Dungeons and Dragons The Movie. Well in my opinion it was a flop... Well recently they actually made a Dungeons and Dragons 2. I watched it last night even though it has not been released yet (it plays on the Sci Fi channel on Oct 8th) and well... it was great! I was totally surprised with the production. It wasn't cheesy (except a few of the special effects) acting wise or production wise. The movie played out like it was a regular adventure that a DM would make up, the spells were cast properly, the "core" rules were not broken, and most importantly the characters were interesting and were not INVINCIBLE... they are just like us PC's (getting arms eaten or chopped off or getting eaten whole by a purple worm!). So trust me... it was great. Even though it was obviously lower budget than say... Battlestar Galactica. But what DND game isn't low budget.

i thought it was a proper cinema movie, what with hollywood rehashing & pointlessly sequelling any old bollocks these days why not a d&d sequel, i didnt care enough to go more in depth to find out if it actually was a cinema movie or not though

my dvd and book arrived today :D make love the bruce campbell way (book), and Rainbow - My Mate Zippy (DVD), the cover was all done up like the old my mate marmite ads (spud will most likely understand that), with lots fo comical episodes featuring zippy at his chaotic best

To be honest I kinda liked Superman 4 this time round. I remeber hating it.. and yes it has so many problems.... but it falls into he so bad it is good area of films. We had a good time watching it, though we spent more time talking, laughing and hasseling it than really watching it.

I still think superman 1 is the worst. 2 rules. Below is a review of superman one I did about a year ago....

Jynks wrote:Well JEEZUS H CHRIST'S FESTY TESTES!!!!!!!

I've just watched Superman 1 "special edition" And I was gobsmacked to discover that it was truly unwatchable. Seriously, I had't been that bored since I tried to watch the Star Wars Holiday Special sober.

Total Goonies effect - that being the effect of watching a movie you loved as a kid only to discover that it is in fact a steaming pile of mad woman's shit on a urine soaked cardigan complete with a cheesy winking Koala bear in an akubra hat motif.

Absolutely nothing happens. 1hr28min into the movie "Superman" has achieved the following:

1) Given us a bit of full frontal child pornography work as he climbs out of his space ship

2) Outrun a train in an embarrassingly laughable manner achieved by the wizard like technical effect of lifting him in the air by his underpants, getting him to thrash his legs a bit and hitting the fast forward button on the remote.

3) Caught a robber

4) Rescued a pussycat from a tree

5) Caught another robber

6) Gone on a date

That's it. Ok. So his planet explodes and he catches a helicopter...but yawn on.

Mario Puzo is a total hack. And anyone who disagrees should read the following exerpt from the movie.

I'll set the scene. I'm fucking bored. And Lois and Superman are falling in love.

This is when Superman takes Lois (possibly played by the world's ugliest leading lady EVER) on a joyflight. During said flight of love, Lois thinks aloud some "poetry" in a really slow, coma inducing delivery style.

Please enjoy AN ODE TO SUPERMAN by Mario Puzo, shit author and talentless idiot, as read by Margo Kidder, poor fool doomed to play the character of Lois Lane.

Can you read my mind?
Do you know what it is that you do to me?
I don't know who you are
Just a friend from another star

(I'm not joking....this scene goes for about 15mins...hang on it gets worse)

Here I am like a kid out of school
holding hands with a God
I am a fool
will you look at me
Quivering
like a little girl shivering

You can see right through me
Can you read my mind?
Can you picture the things I'm thinking of?
Wondering why you are all the wonderful things that you are

You can fly!!!!
You belong in the sky
You and I belong to each other
If you need a friend
I'm the one to fly to
If you need to be loved
Here I am
read my mind.

Holy fuck. I think I prefer Fabio's poetry. No wonder Margo Kidder hit the bottle, went nuts and spent the better part of a decade tied to a chair in a padded room. You can really see the strain taking its toll on the poor woman. By the end of the film, the metaphorical lobotomy she's been through has given her the appearnace of a women who's taken a few marital lessons from Mike Tyson.

Now my mate... bought this dvd...I have to ask, did he actually watch it? I sat there in a state of shock. He told me that he thought this film was a) good and b) better than the sequel.

Well, my friend, allow me to leave the final say to my dear old mother

"Mike's taste is in his bum"
My mum. :)

   i like your mums comment

tbh i too think superman 2 is the best one, the first half of superman 1 just drags on like an endless infinite lasting emmerdale marathon the recap of 1 at the beginning of 2 tells the story adequately and 1 wouldve been a better film if it had just used the supes 2 recap as i believe that lasts about 75-90mins anyway doesnt it? before supes 2 actually starts properly? which incidently couldve cut both films down from almost 3 hours to 90mins, superman 3 is the only one i have seen once altho i own the 1 & 2 special edition boxsets (havent watched since buying godknows how many years ago)

just finished watching married with children season 1, got 2-4 ready to watch, along with macgyver season 2 and 3, and outerlimits original and remake season 1 (out now on dvd in yankee land)

I, too, agree that superman 2 is far better than the first. but in its defense, they are basically one movie. the first half hour/20 mins. of superman is a set-up for superman 2. I think america quoted that same shite puzzoetry on FH a while back. I know someone mocked it hard. then I watched it and totally agreed. I was actually squriming in my seat, silently pleading with the-god-I-don't-believe-in to make it stop. but I noticed you didn't mention the fact that lex luthor was turned into a squawking punchline or that superman "reversed time" by reversing the spin of the earth's axis. now hey, that is</i> comic booky. but wtf! that's so fecking lame, I spit out my drink in amazement when it happened. omfg! the only good thing about that movie was the set-up for general zod.

but what's really funny (now) is that is the new superman supposedly takes the first two reeves movies seriously and picks-up from there (that's what I've been told, haven't verified). why is that funny? because as you may have noticed, smallville</i> is going out of its way to align itself with that same set of movies.

Yea that post at FH was from me about a year ago or so. Ode to Superman @ FH

Man you are so right about the the time travel thing... yeee gads. The new movie is def ment to be set after 2, as far as I know. I do know that they have used wierd effects tricks designed for starwars reprints to mash the original marlon brando footage directly into the new film.

If you havn't seen this before make sure you check it out.... it is cross posted from the superman returns thread @ FH. It is a clip from some confrence were kevin smith talkes about his experiences writting the initial drafts of the project when burton and cage were attached, ages and ages ago. This is very funny and a must see.

Kevin Smith about Superman Lives

Oh and in 4 there is a simular to the time travel thing that is just so silly..... well you know how superman and nucular man can fly in outa space... no probs.. I can acept that. BUT at the end of 4 they are fighting over a chick, a chick THAT THEY TAKE INTO OUTASPACE... she can breath, she dosn't explode like the fat man in 7. nothing... wat a shame..

well without wishing to sound geeky it is explained somewhere in teh superman universe (think one of the movies) that anything in the immediate area that is touching superman (ie a woman holding onto him) is protected by the same field around him that protects him, therefore if the woman is holding superman (i havent seen 4 in a while so im not 100% about the scene) then she would be protected by the same field thus surviving in space without need for a space suit to keep her warm and give her oxygen

and here I thought he was just able to go without oxygen for a VERY long time. that'll teach me to make sense of a comic. heh

is that kevin smith material from An Evening with Kevin Smith (2002)? cuz I copied those discs ages ago and shelved them after...Jersey Girl, I think.

whoops! all this comic book talk got me hooked. forgot why I came by the first time: watched latest BSG. liked it, except it kinda explained something that was prolly better left unexplained. not that I dislike the explanation...just that the ambiguity might have been better...in retrospect. oh well, there's still the *gulp* god option too. but that's just too frackin' preachy, so I'm choosing to deny that possibility.
8)

I also found myself watching the rock's version of Walking Tall</i> again (on hd). It's not a bad movie. I mean...I'd give it a 5/6 out of 10. it beats doing homework and is a good alternative if I'm out of spank material (or dink juice). and even though he's a republican, the guy is pretty surprisingly articulate. so props for that too, I guess. iunno. anyway...I watched it again.

that reminds me, I'm pretty sure</i> I recognized this girl ("greeter") from the verizon wireless store in a spank vid from...teenagersgonewild.com? if it ain't her, it's her slightly older sister. dayum! good thing I saw her before the video. don't think I could've looked her in the face otherwise. (or not said something)
