What Game Would You Like To See As A Film?

Postby maxpayne2409 on Tue Jan 04, 2005 10:05 pm

Just curious what games would you all like to see as a movie, and who would you cast in the roles?

the Movie closest to monkey island at the mo i would say is probably Pirates of The Caribbean, johnny depp reminds me of guybrush a lot in it, although in a movie version of the monkey island series i would probably cast bruce campbell as guybrush... why bruce campbell i hear you all cry..*"why bruce campbell?" you all cry* well the reason is simple, he always gives the kind of performance to suit guybrush's attitude, slightly cocky but also unsure, humourous if sometimes sarcastic, blunders his way through things like guybrush, sometimes escaping by the skin of his teeth, maybe simone bendix or emily booth as gov. elaine marley, and as lechuck who else but... the one and only Mr. T...... hehe only joking... or am i? he certainly would have the onscreen presence and general attitude to be a fearsome pirate or brian blessed could easily be lechuck too

beneath a steel sky - possibly ray liotta or charlie sheen as the main character, william daniels (the voice of K.I.T.T from knightrider for all you younger readers)

to be honest i would like to see all those in the poll made into films :)

maybe gauntlet or warcraft. dungeons & dragons sucked, but it wasa bout par for your fantasy franchise-turned-movie. Zelda might be a good candidate here as well, if they could pull it off serious and not play the comic/animated card. but those would all be tough to do live action and well.

I thought maybe halo or starcraft, but that would basically be starfighter for the new millenium.

maybe star trek academy except sw instead. and follow imperial recruits rather than rebels? kinda like a tie-fighter/x-wing/rogue squadron hybrid.

I always liked playing Ys and was into the story, but the fecking tv series/movie(s) is the exact same thing as the video game - so basically, I wasted $30 on two coasters. I'd like to see that done well on the big screen.

hehe old topic but i never gave my two cents :)

Bagsie directing that one! :wacky:

I'd love for someone competant to make that movie, therefore i'm bitterly opposed to it being made into a movie because they simply won't give it to anyone with even a tiniest amount of backbone.

Prior to its announcment, i'd have said i'd like to have seen American McGee's alice made into a movie... but it just proves the point that they simply don't deserve the franchise to make a movie out of it. First the walking disater wes craven was attached, now the guy who made Texas Rehash is directing with Sarah Michelle Gellar as the the titular character (Alice, not american mcgee!)

I'm of the persuasion that a really awesome Monkey Island film could be made.... but its like discworld, one could be made... but they really don't seem to want to put the effort in.

Speaking of discworld:

as long as we're rehashing...my first choice is prolly Halo</i>. it's pretty much ready to go (visually) if you drop the little clown aliens who only carry pistols. the one set of baddies would work like </i>predator</i>s. get master cheif up and running in his high tech armor (maybe a platoon of experimental soldiers). turn it into a sort of battlestar galactica/space above & beyond thing where the aliens suddenly attack and we're losing one world after another, constantly on the retreat (but not as one-sided as galactica).

it's not very original, but it has a fairly substantial fan base. still...couldn't do it w/o at least $60+ million budget. and I doubt any studio would give it to them, let alone the $100 million and a decent director that it really needs. and of course a good script. honestly though, that trifecta is the problem with every video game movie ever made.

i thought the problem with every video game movie ever made is the fact that the words "video game movie" instantly conjure up horrid images of dr boll sitting there in the directors chair gloating over his *ahem* "superior movie making skills"

halo is well into the production cycle now, script and director are chosen and Microsoft have dictated everything in the process so chances are it will be much better than other game->movie ventures.
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic. ... light=halo

However, I think halo is a vastly overrated game and had zero appeal for me as a game, and film wise, the story was completely uncompelling so i didn't bother playing it for more than a couple of levels. Really did not like it one bit, but xbox fanboys needed a game to cling to on launch, how ever undeserving of status it is.

HL/HL2 is a way better choice on the fps front, hl2 took great strides to make it cinematic, the visuals of the second are great and here the story is actually rather movie-esque, and the conspiracy theories and unanswered questions of Gordon Freeman and the GMan make perfect movie fodder. Knowing hollywood they'd cast morgan freeman as gordon freeman though :wacky:

the most glaring tidbit I got from that link is that uwe boll is going to do a Far Cry movie.

I must really be missing something with RE, cuz it looks like a Doom clone to me. and those games are a dime a dozen.

The game resident evil? yeah your missing a lot, infact I find it very difficult how doom is anything like it.

I think i won't be alone when i enquire "buh?". Your going to have to get how RE is even remotely like Doom... unless you meant movie not game. The RE and Doom games are the same.

they're fps where you run around dark mazes in subterranean locals and shoot (mutated) mosters in an effort to not die.

not that halo is terribly original. hell, wing commander without the kittens; it's derivative of the derivative. but I'd rather play a space marine battling aliens or (for that matter) a predator hunting both than be some guy/girl shooting his/her way out of Hellraiser 10. 'course, you like horror and as a general rule, I don't.

i have to say spud i agree there, halo was very boring and didnt do anything for me either, and i finally got round to playing hl2 and iit is very movielike (except it has a decent storyline.. take notes there hollywood)

on the flip side of things, what movie would you like to see turned into a game and what style of game for instance i think escape from l.a would make a good game (incidently one was planned in the mid-late 90s but was canned) and theres supposedly a "chronicles of plisken" or some such title game coming out, also i still stand by my decision that dawn of the dead (original) would make a good game, aslong as its not done like the land of the dead game which i found really boring and poorly done, looked like they had given it to the work experience kid

not that I played it, but a few mags I breezed through seemed to think chronicles of riddick was a good obligatory movie tie-in.

wow dinky, you messed up badly on this one, your about to get geek served... I'm really surprised max hasn't said a word given that i thought he was a RE fanboy... Hes probably in shock...

they're fps where you run around dark mazes in subterranean locals and shoot (mutated) mosters in an effort to not die.

erm... no Resident Evil, you know... the third person action-adventure game? the one where you spend most of your time solving puzzles in a haunted mansion... not to be confused with a game where you spend your entire time in the game just hitting fire in a hell dimension and nothing else.

You've never played Resident Evil? I find it hard to believe anyone in their right mind would make the mistake of calling resident evil a first person shooter, unless you mean the sucky spinoff arcade games.

Resident Evil is a 3rd person Action-adventure game, it has more in common with Zelda and even Monkey Island than it does Doom (I'm not joking about the monkey island bit either). The difference is in fps the point is to go round shooting people in first person, there are third person shooters but RE isn't one of them.

RE4 changed a bit more into a 3rd person shooter, but that's just a transition into real 3d, like Zelda did when it jumped to 3d (okay not shooter but a bit less puzzly).

Damn dinky, i knew you sucked but damn... never played RE. :outsider:
:googley:

I guess you have but weren't paying much attention or something? and if you've only played those survivor spinoffs i pity you my dear clown

unless you think you play as the roof in resident evil? :wacky:
