Guess the Movie

Postby Blade Runner on Thu May 06, 2004 8:43 pm

Basically, its easy, for now I'll post a screencap and yawlot guess which film its from. Winners can take over and continue the game.

An easy one to begin with

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, the original movie. If it isn't then that old one with the handbag musta been popular in the 60's.

Any hope of some confirmation there, Blade Runner, so we can continue?

Personally I don't doubt the validity of my answer, but I reckon it'd be impolite to assume so without Blade Runner's confirmation. Besides I'd hate for someone to chime in after a month or so to point out that I had been wrong from the start.

It's something like Soylent Green, but its obviously a telemessage from earth. I can remember something like that in 2001 but I don't recall that bit.

Rings a bell, but that's probably cos every sci fi attempts some kind of teleconferencing phone

lol yes they do, kinda like every time travel/cop/action show from 70s-90s has at least 1 episode focusing on the boxing world dont they, has anyone else noticed that? time trax, quantum leap, starsky & hutch, magnum P.I, a-team, knightrider, quincy M.E, diagnosis murder, even charlies angels had one, what is the tv worlds fascination with boxing

Spud got it. It's the "happy birthday" message from Frank's parents in 2001. And to be pedantic it was a recorded message rather than any videoconferenceing lark, that was earlier in the movie. I'd kinda hoped that would last a bit longer than an hour before someone got it as it was nicely orthogonal to the rest of the movie's content.

Sorry, I'm fresh from failing a general relativty exam. Two axes are orthogonal if their values are independant i.e. in Cartesian coordinates the x and y axis do not depend on each other. So knowing one axis value gives you no information aout the other axis value. Hence the screencap I used shows no information about the rest of 2001, no HAl, no Discovery, no Monolith.

For tomorrow's lesson we'll do tensor calculus.

The day after I'll show you how to burn down buildings to negate the pain and suffering of having to learn these things.
