Just as a true WOTW would be eagerly anticipated. I would LOVE a true to the book Starship Troopers. Power armour, Skinnies, Bugs that carry guns, the international flavor. (i.e. Johnny Rico is Phillipino not blue eyed, blonde) and the development of Johnny Rico into an officer... etc etc etc.

BUT... I did the like the "would you like to know more?"'s and the propoganda messages in the current movie. But seeing as how this movie will probably not be re-made.

I'd like to see "Footfall" by Niven and Pournellle. Humans getting hammered by weapons dropped from orbit by baby elephants. Hard sf. Elements of Red Dawn, V and so many others. Heh! But as with any adapation from a book it wouldn't live up to my expectations *sigh*. Staship Troopers is what? 250 pages and they couldn't get more than 20 on the screen. I shudder at the thought of a 600 page book.

Soooo....

I second the Warhammer 40k idea. I think this actually WOULD translate to the screen well and could be accurate while being fun and shallow!

hell yes, it was a great book from the reviews I've read. Was written way back in the 50s or 60s, or something.

Mr Robocop did a great job making that film into something, I thought it criticisms of the US army and the propaganda machine were excellent. He's good at doing stuff like that, when he directed robocop is the way everything was fluffy and happy even though people were getting murdered and mutilated left, right and center. You can tell its the same directed and he loved the project as much as Robocop, just by the way the TV comercials are filmed and interleaved into the films. Really was a good film, and pruposely dumb to get its point across (and make it an easy watch)

Music is stunning too :)

The book is probably my fav Action SF book. It's also the first literary referance to using power armour/mecha in combat. The tactics of the book are completely different than the movie. Every MI (Thus the mobile part of MI) wears a power armour and drops alone. The suits are so destructive that they are over the horizion from eachother when they fight. The training is MUCH harder and the esprit de corps among MI's is that much higher. The motto of the MI is "Everyone fights. No one gets left behind." The MI are not mixed gender units. Females are Navy. The book asserts women have better balance and reaction time so they are needed as pilots.

I still love the movie for totally different reasons. But the book is one of the greats.

Anime? :o Do you mean the CG cartoon? It's called Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles. It's very cool. Haven't read the book, so don't know how well it sticks to it. I do know that there are powered armor suits, Skinnies (main one's on the next to last cover), and Mechs (one of them is on the first & last covers). The Mechs are similar in size to the Loader from Aliens. There's 40 episodes in the one season covering the 8 DVDs, most are ~5 episodes per campaign. My favorite part is Clancy Brown reprising the role of Zim.

Personally, I'd like to see a movie made based on the book Season of Passage by Christopher Pike. It's scifi/horror. A group of american astronauts land on Mars nearly three years after a group of russian astronauts do. The russians all had dissapeared without a trace. They find out why and it isn't pretty. 8)
