It is not a DVD rip, it is a TV rip (it's visible also from REN-TV logo on the right upper corner).

Specs:
Video: 25 fps 416x272 DivX 4.12
Audio: 48 KHz 64 Kbps MP3 Mono
Language: russian

IMDB shows, that language is greman, but because it was co-operation of West Germany, France and Sovet Uniuon, I think, there were created three versions of the film - german, french and russian. And this is a rip of russian version. BTW, I coded also slightly better version (448x304 DivX 5.05), but it is not shared in ed2k yet.

There is also german version in eD2K in mpg (VCD) format:

Unfortunately, on the first IMDB page it is not visible, that this film is based on the Strugatsky brothers' novel.

About subtitles. English is not my native language, but if titles, that I have created so far ("Tumannost Andromedy", "Hukkunud alpinisti hotell"), are acceptable, I could create subtitles also for this film. But it is quite a lot of work and will take some time.

There is a chance, that I can get a DVD and, if quality is good, do a rip. It may solve (or, at least, simplify) subtitles problem.

I got a DVD (russian) and made a rip (should be spread quite well):

Unfortunately this DVD has no subtitles at all (I had hope, that there are at least russian titles). Therefore preparation and translation will take time (listen and write up russian text, synchronise it with video, and only then the tanslation begins). And this time will be not short - I just started with another film (by Strugatsky's short story).

Rather russian -> german Original Strugatsky's novel is in russian. And, AFAIK, there were made at the same time three versions of the film - German, Russian and French. So, I think, I will translate from original language

But about "home made english" you are right And it's sad, that no one of professionals have done this job yet.

As I wrote, the DVD had no subs at all, even Russian ones (they would significantly simplify the job). But now I have first to listen, write up and syncronise russian text - quite annoying preparation, that's eating most of time

It's "Iskushenie B." (Temptation of B.) (IMDB) , shot by short story "Pyat' lozhek eliksira" (Fife spoonfuls of elixir). It is very good film, but unfortuanely not very known.
