Farscape is genre television at its most ambitious, inspired both by the cult appeal of Babylon 5 and the continuing success of the Star Trek franchise, but taking a visual and conceptual leap beyond those shows. Making extensive use of CGI, prosthetics, and state-of-the-art puppetry, courtesy of Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the Farscape concept has a freshness that makes it look and feel completely original. Among the first season's 22 episodes, "Premiere" introduces the characters and the basic premise: American astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) is flung through a wormhole and comes out in the midst of an interstellar prison escape on the other side of the universe. When the galactic cops (called "Peacekeepers") mark him as the new public enemy number one, Crichton is forced to ally himself with the convicts: hulking warrior D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), blue-skinned priest Zhaan (Virginia Hey), fugitive peacekeeper Aeryn (Claudia Black), exiled king Rygel (Jonathan Hardy), and Pilot, the giant insectlike nerve center of their living ship, Moya.
In the action-packed and stylishly directed "Throne for a Loss," a race of mercenary criminals called the Tavleks kidnap the imperious Rygel. "PK Tech Girl" and "That Old Black Magic" feature a peek into the pasts of Rygel and Zhaan as they hide from the fleets of Peacekeeper soldiers in the galactic frontier known as the Uncharted Territories. Leading toward the climax of the show's first season, "Nerve" and "The Hidden Memory" make for a bold two-parter that reunites Crichton with his Peacekeeper Tech girlfriend, Gilina, and introduces the dreaded Scorpius, who uses his Aurora Chair torture device to extract what he mistakenly believes is vital knowledge from Crichton. The final episode, "Family Ties," ends with a cliffhanger guaranteed to bring viewers back for more, as the duplicitous Rygel plans to turn traitor, which eventually leaves the fates of Crichton and D'Argo up for grabs and Moya's young offspring under the control of the conflicted villain Crais, among other developments.

I just wish the DVDs didn't cost so much :(

I managed to get babylon 5 boxsets for a very nice price, been hoping for the same with farscape but its not happening. Hate the way they treat these american shows too... minimal extras, a couple of episodes per 'part' of a series.

Oh well, thx for the DVDs. I might grab the odd one, rent most of the stuff i can't afford though :)

Farscape IS one of the top 10 sci-fi TV series I've seen.
It's just a pity it ended so soon...

Series 3 is awesome, but it just gets better and better imo, from when it starts about worm holes at the end of series one. one of the only series that got consistantly better, 1 < 2 < 3 < 4.

There's only two episodes i hate, one in series 3 and one in series 4... boy did they suck (the cartoon one and the game one).

And no, there is no season 5. The mini-series is the ending as far as anyone can predict. A crying shame, it was in its prime.

Which episode is that, is that the clone one? Where they get seperated? Those episodes are awesome. I also checked the DVDs and it seems one of them is rated 18 in the uk, is it that episode? Gonna have to rewatch the series, haven't watched the episodes since 2 or so years ago.

Contains Spoilers for 3x05

Spoiler:
It is the ep when they go and visit a peace memorale. There was a big battle there but they worked out there differences and made a peace accord there. Anyway the crew is sent back int time and they just fuck it up... every time they try to help out they just make it worse. They keep promising these women and kids that they ill not be slaughtered and that peace will prevale as that is what happens in there time line.... but finally after them screwing up so much the time travel eye guys sees a point when the future is the same as before (kinda.. the same but a lot closer then the entire planet being blown up) so they skip out.... Everyone is really upset and they do these full on speeches about how they are going to be safe... LOL

Well the hored attack and come in and then start killing everyone in the village.. a total slaughter... all the time the words on the lips of the dieing wemon and children is "CRITON!!!!!" as a curse. The reason that the timeline was restored was because that the sight again turned into a peace memorial but this time it was for a masacar!!!.

Truly a great ep.. kinda like a startrek ep but everything is the opposite of how it would go on startrek....

Another cool thing was this "chip in the head" of criton with the personality of that bad guy... I always credited battlestar gaalactica 2003 as having a very cool originally character with that crazy boltar guy... but after seeing farscape I have to say.. "no man, farscape was first"

Everyone loves scorpious, and Harvey. Just pisses me off when people dismiss it because they only saw an episode or two in series one, or it has muppets in it... :rage: Image

i'm currently at about episode 18 in series 2 so i guess it's gonna be getting a lot better as the series continue eh :D been watching an episode or two for the last few weeks and am not gonna stop until i seen em all (and the peacekeeper wars)....i must say i have enjoyed pretty much all episodes so far with maybe the exception of one where chianna went down to a planet where they where dying from radiation or something like that and she found out her brother had died (is that a spoiler?) :wacky: i thought that ep was dull dull dull but i have thought the humourous elements has been getting a lot more prominent what with that mad cat scorpious getting inside our heroes head

just a shame the dvd boxsets are so damn expensive still otherwise i'd like to have them in my collection
