i would do but Bruce Lee needs the attention more than Mark Hamill atm

imo, The Matrix wasn't that good, it was okay at a stretch, but people really do love to bum it as though it was really something ace... that year was completely shit looking back on it.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace :wacky:
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (best one of the three IMO)
The Sixth Sense (over rated)
Fight Club (great)
The Mummy(turned it off it was so bad)
American Beauty (wife liked it)
The Blair Witch Project (LOL)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (LOL for different reasons)

a few big money takers that year...yeah it was a strange year eh

re: matrix
when I first saw the original, I thought it was an okay movie. upon further viewings, a very good movie. no, there's nothing genius about it. I do enjoy similar themes (distopian/you're trapped in the matrix). and the action was very good, imo. it brought the slow-mo-kung-fuy thing to hollywood, which killed it. but it was novel at the time and gets the distinction of being the first hollywood blockbuster to do it (I don't care if it's actually</i> the first, so shut it. seeming is more important than being in this case). the soundtrack was a perfect fit. my only real criticisms are 1) wtf? neo flying around like superman now? - this was basically the beginning of the rubbish, aka: sequels. 2) and this is more a criticism of fans, but wtf is so brilliant about the stroy/narrative? it's a relatively smart action</i> movie. leave it alone. stop trying to turn it into some nietzscheane discourse on the world as such. War of the Worlds was a great gimmick</i> (radio broadcast, btw), but there's nothing brilliant about the irony that these superior beings were foiled by bacteria that humans are immune to. in fact, that explanation is kinda far-fetched. doesn't make either story dumb, but let's stop waving the fecking banner of brilliance already.

i enjoyed Assault on precinct 13...ok it's not the original but it didn't try to be with the obvious difference in the storyline but as remakes go...pretty good :)
Also recently watched Mr & Mrs Smith...which i thought was gonna be an all out action movie but was pleasantly surprised by the humour in it......Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy IMO was pretty lame :wacky:
don't know that i've watched any other releases of 2005 besides WotW and i've already said i was disapointed in that :( ...oh...i forgot constantine...but thats probably for the best

this year as in 2005? the year that's only halfway through summer?

stuff I really liked (or respected in the case of sin, but I seem to be liking more and more once I ditch the traditional movie formula expectations):

robots http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0358082/
sin city http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401792/
mr. and mrs. smith http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356910/
batman begins http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372784/

iunno. that's not bad considering most of the "respectable" movies come out in late fall. the year started pretty badly though with shit like electra and <insert random J-Lo flick here> -type stuff.

well you thought ti could never happen but it has, ive finally seen a b-movie that even i found a complete load of old donkey bollocks and that film is......

Bram Stoker's Legend of the Mummy 2 aka Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy (2000)

it was the worst thing i have ever seen in the entire 22, almost 23 years i have lived

the cast were all unbelieveably crap even by b-movie standards, the effects were so bad that i have seen better effects in an old episode of doctor who, and the whole fact that the evil aztec priest looked like one of the members of what used to be "busted" (yes the immature stupid loved by preteen girls throughout the uk mcfly rival untalented "band")

and so you have some idea of how much i truly hated the film i will say this..... spud get out your clint eastwood AND farscape collection because i would rather watch them to block this drivell from my mind

yes that right i would rather willingly watch them, and i mentioned them in a non bashing way too that just shows how much this movie really annoyed the crap out of me

that's the most movically damning statement I've ever read. :wacky:

Wholly crap, really?

I thought Fight Club was 2000, South Park and American Beauty was 1998, well i take it back because i like all three of them :)

If they are all 1999 then I must have spaced on the dates

I haven't minded this year, there's been some great films so far, but lots of shit too. I haven't seen land of the dead yet, but i know that will rule :)
