Plot: In this 1952 Republic Studios serial, security agent Larry Martin, who can fly with an experimental rocket suit, investigates clandestine visits to earth by a Martian spaceship. Meanwhile, villainous Martians conspire with a traitorous atomic scientist to blast earth out of its orbit and replace it with Mars. Can Larry and his cohort Bob Wilson stop the Martians before they complete their dastardly project? This oddly titled rarity (there are no actual zombies in it, although "zombies" sounds like "commies") ran as a twelve part serial in theatres during a time when TV was gaining ground on the movies. It was a semi-sequel to the Commander Cody serial, from which it borrows stock footage. A feature length version assembled from parts of the series was released in 1958 under the name "Satan's Satellites," and a colorized version was released on VHS in 1995. "Zombies of the Stratosphere" is often remembered today as an early screen appearance for Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame.
