The dead have risen...and they're hungry! No, not for human brains, but for nice, home-cooked meals chez loved ones. The effect is still creepy, as ten years' worth of previously lifeless carcasses spring to life, a bit dimmer but looking as fresh as the day before they perished. Problems inevitably arise. Where will they stay? Who will feed them? Will they endanger the living with acts of vengeance for their deaths? The pulpy premise is uncommon enough, but the socially conscious terrain that Campillo takes it is unprecedented. Here is an incisive study of the problems of immigration and welfare, as issues raised become analogous to the European struggles for minority integration.
